Teo, love the videos. Keep up the good work. One suggestion: a heat gun and a scraper makes epoxy clean-up very easy even after it hardens. Much easier than just scraper. Thank you for the videos!

Excellent video! I really enjoy watching you work through different boat building problems and challenges. The benches look great. One thing I would really like to see is how the boat performs on a multi-day cruise that includes a little bit of everything: rowing, sailing, anchoring, on-board camping and sheltering, cooking, navigating etc.

@@TheBoatRambler Me three :) I wonder if it will be harder to right again if the dagger board sits higher above the water when lying on its side. Also if it did manage to go fully inverted you have just invented the catamaran. Could you sink one of those tanks to right it again?
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
@@marieenglish3002 I hope it doesn't turtle as many areas around the estuary are less than 10ft deep and the mast would get stuck in the mud!! That is a pain to sort out when it happens! I know of a dude who quit sailing here because he got the mast buried so deep in the mud that a power boat had to go and sort it out! I will fit a couple of small round inspection hatches on the side benches but I really wouldn't want to swamp any of them!
@n176ldesperanza77 ай бұрын
I wonder if the seat sides were sloped to match the hull if the water would run out when righting the boat after a capsize. You have inspired me to build a GIS and I have learned so much from these great videos. Thank you for all the work you have put into them.

@@TheBoatRambler So are the seats comfortable? Would you make them wider?
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
I made them to the max width which would still allow me to have my feet on the hiking straps without the seats hitting my legs. I will only be sure when I try it.

Just a thought. For sleeping aboard how about a catamaran trampoline fabric bed that attaches to the sheer line. If made with the weave of the fabric on the bias pulling the ends tight will tension the entire bed. Sew in 50mm nylon webbing around all edges with a lashed on block spaced about 300mm apart that fits down in the openings at the sheer. Have a removeable stringer at the ends to pull tight and fit into a fitting at the four corners. The whole thing can fold up in a bag with just the end stringers out. I have a 16' sailing outrigger canoe with a large trampoline between the hulls and sleeping on it is great. Good luck.

Hi Michael! Interesting idea, I'll look into it! 🤔 I had thought of a hammock kind of setup before, but never got to try anything...

@@TheBoatRambler Hi again. Nice workmanship. I enjoy your style of video. You have a good voice for this. I have an awful Aussie accent and nobody needs to hear my drawl. I am currently in the middle of a new Argie 15 build, a little bit similar to your boat. Anyway onto my comment....I know someone with a hammock style net that they string across to sleep on. It appears to work well if you can sleep in that style of bedding. He folds it up against the side of the hull when not in use.
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
@Jason Stork are you referring to my Portuglish accent?? 😁 The Argie 15 actually made my short list when I was trying to decided which dinghy I should build! Regarding the sleeping arrangements...I'll need to look into a few different options!

Lovely work again. Just wondering if you considered access hatches for the underseats for airing / drying out in the future (water gets everywhere!). Have you considered automatic bailers in the floor to help in the unfortunate event of capsize? (and smashed the Like button ... looking forward to your DIY haircut lol)
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! yes I do intend to put some small round inspections hatches on the seats. regarding the bailers I want to see first if I can get enough speed after a capsize for the bailers to work. as for the DIY haircut...😜

Good Day. What's the fastest you ever got GIS to sail?
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dion! I can't say for sure I never had a way to clock that until recently. I suspect around 10Kn.
@davewebster69453 жыл бұрын
Its looking excellent now Teo 🤩. How did you get on with the area under the hatch where water had got under the varnish and into the wood 🤔.
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave! I'm letting it dry as much as possible before I give it a good sanding and a few coats of epoxy all over the inside of the tank. Maybe already this week I can do that.😉
@davewebster69453 жыл бұрын
@@TheBoatRambler I did wonder if you were going to do a vid on that problem 😉.
@davidprocter35783 жыл бұрын
Think I would have put the hatches in the vertical faces of the lockers rather than the upper surface, this has the advantage of less UV, less strain on the hatch covers as would not have to bear any weight but most important of all much kinder on the bum, nothing worse than plastic cover edges digging into a wet backside for prolonged periods.
@TheBoatRambler3 жыл бұрын
Hi David! I'm pretty much sure big hatches like these wont be 100% water proof even if the manufacturer says they are. So, in the event of a capsize only one will be momentarily and partially underwater until I get the boat right way up again unlike if they were on the sides. It is also easier to access them even under sail. The plastic is supposed to be UV resistant, the one on the back seat seems ok so far. ...and I sail solo 99% of the times, if I get some crew I'll ask them to bring some bumpads! 😁 Cheers Teo
@marieenglish30023 жыл бұрын
If you want to camp on board, and Teo has said he does, having the hatches on the top might mean you don't have to take up the floor to get at the stuff in the lockers
