I made some a few years back. Instead of one cup of sugar, I used 3. I put it in my closet for a month, then racked it into an old 750ml Vodka bottle. I put it back in my closet and forgot about it for 3 months. When I finally remembered it, it had become a pretty shade of clear red. I pulled it out, uncorked it and drank 3/4 of the bottle. It went down smooth... and got me so drunk I couldn't see straight, walk straight, or speak straight. I was drunk before I knew it.

Tried this and it worked very well. Tastes great! I have made wine, beer and hard cider but this has been by far the best. It only took 1 week to ferment at room temp (in Scotland). I got 4x1L of Welches red grape juice on a deal for £8. Added the juice to a 1gall demijon and added 17oz sugar, 1tsp yeast nutrient and winemaking yeast (well actually it was whatever was in a few mls of the hard cider i was fermenting in a different demijohn). Fermented like crazy. I think the key to avoiding sourness is to know when to stop the fermentation. Taste it and see if its to your liking...do not leave it for too long. Use a hydrometer. They are dirt cheap.

If you buy the generic juice, use bread yeast (bought in a larger quanity) and buy the generic sugar you can get the cost of these down to about 3$ a bottle. Since a 48 oz or 1.5 quart worth of juice is 1400ml+ that makes your average "bottle" of wine only costing about $1.50 USD. Plus its fun to do and usually tastes better than store bought wines. :D Good stuff.

while that will work, bread yeast brews need aging to clear the bread taste (which is fine) but also, flocculation changes from packet to packet.

I really don't think you're going to ruin a batch by using a little more or less, but I can't be sure. My friends loved the stuff I made! Just give it time to really clear. Make wine any way you can! Interestingly, a fermentation with grape skins offers natural protection, as they skins form a cap that protects the wine beneath. Thus, you don't have to ferment in a container with a small opening. Real grapes and juice without any preservatives are available nationwide and per volume and quality offer an excellent value.

If you are using bread yeast don't shake it up after adding it to the juice/sugar, and cut the acidity a little bit by adding 4 to 6 onces of water, this seems to reduce the the bitterness. Thanks for posting this video and good tip on the bottle top.
@TheDontAskMe91111 жыл бұрын
The reason your wine was bitter is because you let it sit too long, the yeast had converted all the sugars to alcohols and then oxidized, which means it was turning to vinegar. lol, one week is plenty time to ferment. If it were me, I would add half a cup of corn syrup as well for addition enzymes for the yeast to be extra happy ;)

Balloons work fine, I’ve been making a lot of wine using this method for a year and the ballons don’t touch the wine ever, just make sure you put some pin holes in your balloon so the gas can escape. Also 2 cups of sugar in that size juice container will make a sweet wine. If you prefer a drier wine I recommend 1 cup sugar. I use half a Lalvin yeast packet for that size container. I’ve used Red Star (from Amazon) when I couldn’t find Lalvin anywhere. Bread yeast works but it won’t taste the same. After 3 weeks, your wine should be done fermenting. To stabilize the wine (stoping fermentation and ensuring it doesn’t start up again), I transfer the wine into sterilized mason jars. I boil water in a large pot, remove it from the heat then I put the lidded jar in the hot water and cover the pot and leave them in there for 7 minutes. The heat will kill the yeast and naturally stabilize the wine. The great thing about this is if you find your wine is not sweet enough you can add sugar and it won't start fermenting again. This stabilizing process will also make a clear wine. After7 minutes, I store the jars for about 7 days then I transfer the wine again into clean sterilized mason jars or bottles leaving the sediment behind. You can drink the wine then but I like my wine super clear so I give it another couple of days to a week and then it’s ready. The longer it sits the better it is. Make sure you keep you wine in a dark area throughout the whole process. Test out different juices and various sugar ratios as some juices like grape are sweeter while others like apple are less sweet. Just make sure your juice is 100% and contains nothing else than juice (from concentrate is ok), water, sugar, ascorbique acid and citric acid which are there to maintain colour. Make sure there are no other ingredients like sulfites because the wine will not ferment. Enjoy the savings and the pride of making your own wine.
@evanpatterson84877 жыл бұрын
What you do is put a balloon over the top of it poke a needle hole in it. It will stay blown up from the gas being made, once the balloon goes flat the yeast is done doing its thing.

No but trying to make distilled alchohol (moonshine, vodka, etc) can. that's the only reason it's legal to make wine and beer but illegal to make spirits
@slopcrusher34826 жыл бұрын
No, if you distill it ( dumbest thing a brewer can do) the “ head” contains all of the methanol, since distilling makes it pure alchahol and methanol, which is what will make you go blind, and cause organ failure
@jbrunson19496 жыл бұрын
I have a different reason that I believe about being illegal, I firmly think it is only about the TAXES, if you look at the price of legal alcohol in stores, it is easy to see how much taxes are being lost to the government, from illegal distilling - moonshine, AFTER all think about it, from the beginning of this country-US, there has always been fighting over TAXES, people don't like it so rebellions have been quite a part of our lives. Just my view, yes I agree that the heads can cause blindness and other types of poisoning, but most people that would distill would and do know to get rid of the heads. Especially the real moonshiners, they don't want a bad product that people won't buy, there purpose is to sell as much as they can, and have returning customers.

I made some red and white. its been sitting for about 3 weeks. I plan to use coffee filters for filtering. Is there any way I can tell if oxygen may have gotten into it? I want to make sure its safe to drink. lol.

Or you could just go buy a cheap bottle aid wine
@adamjordan69178 жыл бұрын
Seth Young yes, however this method is rewarding by working for the end result as opposed to going and buying wine, anyone can do that.

Seth Young Or if you're underage you can make your own
@ShawnHartwell8 жыл бұрын
Seth Young The big difference here is how much this method costs. I have done this multiple times for around $3 and that means more money to travel. Cheapest wine bottle is 8.99 plus tax so around $10. And I drink ALOT so it cuts costs
@lumox77 жыл бұрын
Another plus, you pay no alcohol taxes.

I used bakers yeast, and had a bottle 6 months old and it was fantastic! thanks for the amazing vids.

Instead of loosely placing the cap back on, could you just poke a hole on top of the cap? Seems like it would work, but I'm unsure. Also, will bread yeast affect the alcohol content? I don't have access to wine yeast, but will bread yeast make it taste pretty awful, or will it not make too much of a difference?

After the few months do you pour straight from the bottle and drink or do you strain it first?

Hey, I have some brewers yeast that is just in a clear package, do I need to do anything to it before I use it and how much should I put in?

hello, what do you think would happen if i did the same thing only with water instead of juice ?

If I made it, and aged it for a long time (3-4 years) would it go bad? Or would it age like normal wine?
@my12steptruth9 жыл бұрын
My friend made this and REALLY liked it. She said it tasted just like a really good wine cooler or sangria. She made it from pomegranate juice and said that the hardest part was just waiting three weeks! No added sulfates or unknown chemicals is really great too. I will let you know if she gets a bad hangover though (hah!)
@biggestnoobonmw71219 жыл бұрын
Did she
@my12steptruth9 жыл бұрын
No but thats because she takes Tangy Tangerine type supplements every time she drinks. Hangovers are just caused by dehydration and vita/mineral deficiencies.

Ive done mine bubbles have stopped fermenting around a week not sure if i should re-activate it with a bit of sugar or strain it then fridge it i did have a taste it tastes like wine bit strongish tho what do you suggest?
@855h0le13 жыл бұрын
The Breather you can make form the CAP(s). Then pop them onto the next batches. You Start by Drilling the correct sized hole. A unsmoked Cigarette Filter works GREAT! Use Clear Hose from Hardware STores or Medical Hoses and run the tube into water container.Also a tube with a Marble on top etc. Nice video!

hello mate, thanks for the video, it is very simple. i tried your method yesterday, but my question is, do i have to shake the bottle every day? or just forget about the bottle for two weeks? and today when i opened the bottle the smell was awful. is it normal or did i do something wrong? waiting for your reply. thanks
@jakeanddar13 жыл бұрын
@Aborza123 no need to add more sugar just stop fermenting earlier by straining it off to get most of the yeast out of there and then storing it!
