Make sure you've warmed the pan thoroughly over low heat before putting in the gyoza. Heating the gyoza along with the pan will cause them to stick. :)

Looked up this video to make gyoza this weekend. It’s ten years to the day that it came out! Thank you to Francis(RIP), Chef and her husband for giving so much of their hard work to bring us these recipes. I miss this show so much but I’m so glad I had the opportunity to experience it the first time around. Happy Ten Years Yaki Gyoza! Arigato gozaimashita!

My brother and I made this recipe before-it blows any gyoza I’ve ever had at a restaurant out of the water. It’s a little labor intensive to make all the individual gyoza, but so worth it. If you’re making any more than one batch, I highly recommend having at least two people for wrapping the filling, otherwise you’ll be spending hours making gyoza. I’m making a double batch with my friends tomorrow; so excited!

You can skip sake if you are not allowed to use it but please remember it is an essential ingredient for Japanese cooking. Sake will bring out umami (savory taste) in food. The alcohol will completely evaporate during cooking so children can also enjoy Japanese dishes. Cheers :)

KittyCatRosa Im very proud to say that mine taste better than in the asian buffet !! i like the restaurant ones but they are bit too thick and greasy. I personaly use chicken breast cause i like them more with chicken :3 I made a whole batch and i have gyozas for 10 meals !
@ToriRao10 жыл бұрын
Sakuems That's is great. What do you flavour your gyozas with? I steam my dumplings. I do not fry them. I flavour mine with: oyster sauce, hosin sauce, garlic, and ginger. I fail at the flavouring. I also use store bought premade wraps. I have made my own wraps on an occasion. I have tried making pork buns but also fail with the bun and the flavouring of the meat. ):
@Sakuems10 жыл бұрын
KittyCatRosa I tried the steam version but it was super dry and they didn't expand that much so i prefer a little bit of oil and i cook them for 10 mins with the lid on, fry them just a few minutes until they are brown and that's it ! i can't find Nira so i put a bit more garlic and green oinions, i chose teriyaki sauce (which has white wine) instead of regular soy sauce cause sake is quite expensive here, so i have a "2 in 1" with the teriyaki I also make a little sauce to dip them in, yakitori sauce, oyter sauce and bit of water. i tried the nikuman twice but they are not as good as the ones from the asian store, they were good but not as good.
@ToriRao10 жыл бұрын
Sakuems I stink at cooking.. X) Maybe I will buy sake. My dumpling has: Chinese nappa, scallions, carrots, pork or chicken, and then the flavouring for the meat. Maybe I need to flavour them for a longer time and add more sauces..? People tell me I should buy some prawns to my dumplings. They say it makes it tastier. My favourite dip for my dull tasting dumplings are soy sauce and sriracha mixed together.

It's easy to make the wrappers. There are several videos that can show you how to make them. It's very simple. 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup of just boiled water and 1/2 tsp of salt dissolved in the water. knead dough for 10 minutes. then let it rest 45 minutes. Afterwards, split dough in two. roll into a log then split each log into 12 pieces. Flatten and cut into circles with cookie cutter. Remember to keep the dough moist by laying a moist towel on them as you work with them. That's it.

When I first went on a China trip 6, 7 years ago, I was a little bit worried about food but I found Chinese are in China are much better than the ones in Japan It's kinda shocking to me. Actually for a long while after I came back to Japan, I never ate a gyoza.Now Chinese restaurants in Japan that Chinese or Taiwanese chefs cook the dishes are expanding.
