@@JapaneseMomMakes So a couple slight deviations - used Hoisin Sauce, we did not have oyster. Added Bok Choy, Flower Shitake mushrooms and when I sautéed the broccoli and carrots, I added sliced ginger. The Japanese market 'Uwajimaya', had their noodles in the freezer, they were from a company in Japan. It has a hit. Leftovers for lunch tomorrow - Oh I also bought thin sliced pork for Hot Soup, that I included along with the pork belly. 😋

Yes! Crunchy brown parts on the noodles! Thank you for this video. We had a wonderful Japanese restaurant in Dayton, Ohio, before we moved. They had a really good yakisoba, full of vegetables and very satisfying. But the best part was the little crunchy edges on the noodles!! I will try this at home!

Oishisou! My wife does it a different way with shrimp instead of pork belly, which she doesn't like. I'll try to make this for her and see if she likes it. We're lucky to have 2 Nijiya, 2 Korean and several Asian markets nearby so ingredients are easier to come by. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

I got exactly the same yakisoba from the asian market. I just used the sauce package inside to cook it. Turned out delicious. I'm Asian, btw.

The hoisin sauce flows easier if you shake the bottle first. Btw, using a mandolin eliminates having to half the carrot slices. Also as a variety, slice the cabbage into thin slices and search for a pork alternative if you’re trying to stay away from pork. Turkey bacon? Regardless of how you do it, this is DELICIOUS!!!
@JapaneseMomMakes Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips and comments! I think pretty much any alternative meat works for Yakisoba and so is Turkey Bacon😊

I learned to love Yakisoba when I lived in Japan for a year and a half. I make it regularly at home and buckwheat noodles are available at two groceries in my city. I generally add some chili garlic sauce to add a little spiciness and add a little sesame oil at the end as well. Cabbage is essential for us.

Sounds great! Sometimes I add Crunchy Garlic with Chili Oil(おかずラー油) on top of Yakisoba and eat too😋

Really enjoy your videos! Started looking for the noodles online and wanted to ask you about what brand name noodle you like and how many servings per pack with the noodles used in your video.

Thank you for watching! Maruchan, Myojyo, Fortune are probably the brands people see the most in US. I think Maruchan and Myojo are the good choices but I see Fortune everywhere. Walmart, Grocery Outlet, Kroger, WinCo...it is easy to get😊 That is the reason why I used Fortune in my video. Fortune comes with 3 noodle packages and I think most of the yakisoba noodles also comes with 3(sometimes 2 or 4). I hope this will help you‼️ Good luck!

It looks delicious and I’d like to know how to adjust the sauce if I don’t have tonkatsu sauce since recipes show the same ingredients. Maybe just add sugar and ketchup? I’d also need to replace the meat because I absolutely despise eating a massive piece of fat and that’s 90% of your chosen cut of pork. I could use the fat rendered from the pork belly for flavor to cook the vegetables but could never eat that fat left over. I would say it’s a cultural/textural thing but American bacon is made from pork belly, and the slices are very thin and get crispier, but I still pick off the bigger pieces of 100% fat.
@JapaneseMomMakes Жыл бұрын
If you don't have Tonkatsu sauce, mix the same amount of Soy Sauce+Oyster Sauce+Worcestershire Sauce would be good enough. Try 1 1/2 Tbsp of each sauce. I hope you will like it😊 I totally understand that some people don't feel good about fatty meat. You can use any meat you want for Yakisoba. Chicken, thin beef slices, seafood, tofu, even meatless😁 You might want to add some oil to cook the less fatty meat. I like pork belly and I would rather use thin slices if I could get it. Asian stores sell thin pork slices(pork belly slices, pork loin slices, pork chop slices). Some people go with Pork loin thin slices for a healthier choice and I think that is a great choice😊 Thank you for watching the video‼️

Any Yakisoba noodles you find in the refrigerated section of grocery stores will work! If you're in the US, the noodles I used in the video are available at stores like Walmart and Kroger. If you're in Japan, check the refrigerated section for a variety of fresh noodles like udon, soba, and ramen. Dried noodles (kanmen 乾麺 or chukamen 中華麺) can also work, but I personally prefer using fresh ones.

Can I replace pork belly with bacon or something else? It just looks real fatty to me.
@JapaneseMomMakes Жыл бұрын
I haven’t cooked yakisoba with bacon before but I found lots of recipes for yakisoba with bacon in Japanese on the internet. I think Yakisoba goes well with anything. Chicken, thin beef slices, seafood like squid and shrimp, tofu, etc… Thanks for watching and good luck finding your favorite ingredients!
