The MK7.5 Golf R will only charge from the 12v outlets with the key on. You can make a free modification to the Golf R and other MQB Volkswagens and Audis to have the 12v outlet charge ALL THE TIME! From the factory the Golf uses 15 power, or ignition switched on power. With one simple fuse swap, you can have all the 12v outlets in the car use 30 power.
