I came here because my cigarette ltr would not turn off. I used that fuse as a piggy back for my amp+subs and it ended up draining my battery. for weeks i’ve been trying to figure it out and it’s just as simple as moving fuse to the correct position. I'd heard of this but no one really made it as clear and concise as you have. I tended to just charge my phone in the car on the way to work and had been idling in the parking lot before I got into work because the power was shut off but now I do not need to. Thank you.

Great tip. Thanks. This works on a US 2018 Sportwagen 4Motion for the 3 - 12V outlets. My USB outlet does not stay on in either fuse position. It stays on until a door is opened or the alarm is set. It operates the same in either fuse position.

Wow! That was super easy and work great on my VW Atlas 2019. On the Atlas the fuse is in the same location, but in order to take the little drawer out you have to push in the plastic tab on the top of the drawer instead of squezing from the sides.

Confirmed to work on VW Touran 2017 (Touran Mk2 aka. Typ 5T). Not surprise because it is basically a 7-seat Golf Mk7. Before this video I thought that it is a configuration setting and a diagnostic tool is needed to change the behavior. But it is really an old-school hardware-controlled thing. ❤❤❤ Now finally (after three summers already) I can keep snacks and medicines refrigerated in the trunk while we are having a lunch break on a summer trip!

How do you do the mk6 golf tdi? The cigarette lighter fuse is position 42 but there isn't a half position to move the fuse up or down.

Thanks for the tip! Confirmed to work on my '23 Tiguan SE. (1) The USB-C ports up front remain powered up with the ignition off. (2) The wireless charging pad is not powered up with the ignition off--I guess it powers through the infotainment system. Also there's a note in the owner's manual, seems they really don't want you doing this: "Note the installation position, factory-standard fuse location as shown in the illustration."

I got a 2024 jetta and I just did this and it worked I'm also putting sou.ds in my.jetta.and was looking for a.12v ignition and I used the bottom plug in after I switched the fuse I wired my line output convertor to it to turn on my amps ehn I push start and that to worked so win win for me thanks dude I been tryna figure out this fuse box all day

There may be some exceptions, but generally American made companies keep their cigarette lighters energized all the time. Non-American made ones tend to switch it on and off with accessory mode. I find the American method better. There are many applications where you want to have a cigarette lighter powered continuously. Of course, the best solution would be to allow the owner of the car to configure the cigarette lighter how they wish. No, that would make too many customers happy.

Hello. Just checked my MY2022 UK RHD Polo, the fuse listed as 12V Socket within the interior box does NOT allow this hack unfortunately. Considering people have had better luck with the US Jetta, which shares many interior components with the EU polo, this is a shame!

Hello Charles. Thanks a lot for this wonderful video. I just love your content mate, it’s so worthy. I’m trying to turn off cigarette socket when ignition is off. I have a question for you, the 15 power metallic pin shown at 2:24 is not at all present in my Skoda octavia (which shares almost the same fuse box). Surprisingly, all the slots are same and also it has a slot like the one you show but it’s empty and no metallic connectors underneath, so its always in the original slot connecting to battery and I’m not able to change ciggy socket from all-time-on to with-ignition. Any help/pointers here from you is much appreciated.

I always look for a constant power fuse port when hard wiring a dashcam, but I always use an in-line voltage monitor set to 11.8vdc.

This works on my 2024 VW GTI. Move fuse F52 downwards about 1/4 of an inch and the 12 volt outlet between the front seats is always on regardless if car is running or not.
