I've been planning a comic for two years but still haven't started. Procrastination Lvl. 100 Edit: 3 years now **cries** Edit: 4 Edit: Year 5, I'm sitting down and redoing everything. I've redesigned the characters but I'm going to flesh out the world and redo them again, then work on the plot. It's time to work on this silly little comic I started back in school, revisiting it now that I'm an adult and that my art has vastly improved. I'm also far more mature now and can surely make a plotline that's at least a little less cringe than before, hopefully.

It's so easy to do that. really the only thing that has gotten me out of that is doing the 100 days of making Comics challenge. I did that multiple times until I realized I wanted to just work on Comics everyday so now I'm on my second year of 365 days of making comics. It's a life-changer creatively!!! I know exactly what you mean - I feel the same and I know your pain! It’s extremely frustrating not to be able to translate the awesome ideas from your head into reality on paper. I can make kind of OKish art using a tablet, but what takes me literally 10-15 hours would take a decent artist about 20 minutes, and that really dispirits me and I don’t know how to get past it. But what I would say to you is don’t give up practising learning to draw.

I stumbled into making a comic a few years ago. My husband was diagnosed with cancer and during his surgery and treatment, I had a ton of nervous energy. So I grabbed a cheap sketchbook and just started drawing. Looking back, I can see the growth of my ability as the comic progresses. It begins with circles for heads on sticks and by the end the characters (my family and the medical team in charge of my husband's care) have bodies and full faces. It's not awesome level art, but the difference between the first page and the last pages are significant.

sounds like a cool story idea! Study story writing in general. Look into the story embryo method by Dan Harmon. As far as the art goes if you focus on design principles and clear storytelling it will definitely help your story be more appealing! Of course the better you are at drawing will always help but even if you're not the most skilled artist if you're able to have clear storytelling and good design you can do well! Seeing those mini comics actually gave me so much hope. I am wanting to do manga myself but seeing that reminded me just how much it matters just to make "something". It's better to make something than have anxiety and make nothing. Tbh it kinda brought me back to how I started reading comics. Long before picking up manga and having a lifelong obsession with it I would always pick up Archie comics at the store and cut out Pearls Before Swine and and Calvin and Hobbes comics. I actually still have a lot of tuem hung on my walls. It's kinda the notion of getting it out of my head that something needs to be long to be worth it. Heck one of my favorite manga is actually super short, Voynich Hotel from Dowman Seiman is such a treat and yet it's these short episodic adventures pretty much the whole way through. It feels good to really think about how broad of a thing comics can be. Also makes it make a lot more sense why manga publishers tend to have up and coming mangaka submit one shots first. I tend to get overwhelmed by the fact that I usually have many chapters written out and thus the workload that entails, but the thing is to focus on the first chapter. Don't even worry about the others until it's done, it's fine to write stuff but don't worry about adapting it into drawing form until I have the previous chapter done. You are going on the list of people to send my work to once I have something, and this is the first video I have seen from you lol.

This video changed my mind on mini comics. I had myself stuck in the traditional size comic/graphic novel mindset, and total honesty kinda looked down on tables at cons with comics in similar format. I had no idea that mini comics were even a thing 😱 I’ve been interested in cartoons my entire life. My dad is an artist, and mostly does cartoon styles drawings/paintings. I’ve always struggled as an artist. I have this great idea for a superhero story that was going to be a movie (I am an ametuer writer/director) and after realizing how daunting of a task that would be I turned it into a novel, but I am first and foremost a visual story teller. A comic book is the way to go and you unpacked it so simply and made it feel like an achievable goal for a first timer. Its late as hell for me right now and a school night too but I could care less, if I dont do it now I never will. I can't believe I hadn't thought of this yet. This sounds like the exact advice I got about writing short stories! I'm a beginner in writing too, but starting out with this bite-sized format has helped to reduce some of the pressures of getting started or feeling I have to create huge and complex pieces, all while still encouraging exploration and learning. There is a method to short stories vs novels that's a little different, as I imagine is the same with mini comics vs graphic novels, but it has still helped me to know that I am little by little laying down these foundations that will serve as a necessary skillset to eventually tackle larger ideas one day

I loved this. When I was a kid in the 60s all I did was read comics and make mini-comics. This brought back a lot of memories. I had super heroes and hardy boys type stories and I think even a lost in space type one. I think I might start doing them again.

This os truly an inspiring video. During the early 2000 I was a "indi" publisher, I worked as a Graphic artist and illustrator for several print shops in my area and loved comics, I found out that there was a healthy community of other artists that were making their own comics and to make this story short managed to make regular schedule comic with a small but reliable fan base, make a comic strip for local biggest running news paper for 3 years and worked on several collective comics until 2015, then everything stops. Self imposed banishment mixed with apathy and depression kept me away of doing comics, I still do art and sell it but all the comics I've done during that time haven't seen the "light of day". At 51 I do have the respect of my peers but I also notice that I'm also seen as a hasbeen or old geezer pulling me back to my "hiatus black hole". Thank you for sharing this video, it truly gave me a new vision or approach to print my "lock away stored comics". You have a new subscriber. Thanks.

First, I have to say that this is amazing advice for beginners who have lots of ideas in their head, but is daunted when facing the paper. Remind them to start small, tiny small. I believe in my story, but I have always been looking for the right "platform" to start my story from. I happen to come across your video today when doing my homework. mini comics are a great way to flesh out ideas as well. at one time all i had on me were a small stack of blank 3x5 cards, that I used to sketch out images that would catch my eye. I outlined a comic idea with text and sketches that i used to create out a single sheet , no staple 8 page mini comic. Don't over think it, just pick up your pencil and *DRAW!*

This is awesome. I'm so inspired. I have wanted to make my own comic book but I felt overwhelmed. I have that Marvel book and others. I studied a lot of Conan, Savage Sword of Conan. I wanted to do historically based comics. This really got me inspired. Thank you for this video.

Hello so apparently your comment is still here. It never got deleted. This video gets a lot of comments everyday and sometimes life causes me to not be able to reply to everyone which I hate because I’ve always been big on replying to comments. That being said like I said in my reply to your other comment I’m really sorry your family has been going through a rough time. I can definitely relate. I think I’ve used the term “Living Hell” even on my vlogs on this channel to describe what my life has been like this past decade as well. It’s actually part of why I make videos like this when I can because I know how much of a struggle life is and things like this can really help even if your only able to chip away a little of creative work a day. There are tons of ways to sell comics but it's a real challenge to make good money in it. Not impossible though! I've talked in videos about it a lot but I'll have to do a dedicated video on it soon!

This is awesome! I'm an RPG writer and I've seen the same thing with creating small RPG products: it's a fast way to test ideas and learn. You can always take the ideas that work and resonate with you into something larger, and that gives you an edge.

From 4th grade to 6th grade i made 3 comic series and showed it to my friends (and they liked them), the 3 comics i made were *the poop man* that lasted only one year, *Devil and god* that also lasted one year and my most successful one *supernatural* that lasted three years But when i reached 7th grade it all stopped,i just, stopped making comics And now i'm in 8th grade and thanks to this video it got me motivated to start making comics again, thanks😊
