Hey man, great video! Got a 2012 N/A DCT here and the thing's been... Well, temperamental. Had a few breakdowns but the thing is running fine for the time being. Gonna install a Catch-Can soon. Something I'd recommend to N/A and turbo users is to keep an eye on the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Things are known to go every 20,000 miles or so and it disconnects the transmissions in the DCT models (can't comment on anything else) while driving, which is dangerous. Cheap part, even if you don't install it yourself. Any other advice you have for the early model N/A DCTs? Also wondering where you got the info about the turbo having a single-clutch automatic transmission. Can't find any details about Hyundai ever making a normal automatic, just the DCT 'Automatic' and the manual, at least where I live and Google isn't showing the Shiftronic. If you could provide some info on the normal non-DCT auto, that'd be awesome!

They definitely are fun cars. I’ve got a 2015 Kia forte 5 sx which is basically a veloster. Same engine and trans. Mine blew its head gasket. I will say that when you start tuning them the biggest failure point I’ve seen and I’ve heard of is head bolts stretching causing head gasket to blow. Also many months before my blown head gasket. I would have a lot of cold start misfires and sometimes misfires under load. And also change those spark plugs before you go out and tune the car!

Recently purchased a 2016 VT DCT and have had 0 issues so far. Currently at 86k miles and the car has been great. The only "issue" (If I would really even call it that) that I've noticed is that if I'm in Sport mode driving slow the transmission gets a little jumpy like it cant figure out which gear it wants to stay in. There isn't really a reason for me to be in sport mode if I going slow anyways so ill just put it back into drive.

They offer free engine replacement from 2012 up. Mine has been replaced on a DCT and it's now better than before. It's the fitting as well between rods and Pistons. It's compressed together but also very loose in the joint. This why it makes a tick noise if you don't shift properly.

Bought new and only an over boost sensor went out. Nothing else but regular maintenace. Fully modded with boltons, 18psi boost hitting 235hp at the wheel. NOT TUNED and wont unless i change out the internals for highend forged rods, pistons, and bearings. Run nothing but fully synthetic Mobil One 5w30 and change every 3500 miles period. I have a question about something going on with my 2016 seems like it’s going into limp mode once I hit 80mph, then slows down to 50mph and turbo won’t activate, the car won’t boost at all. I have to turn it off and back on then it goes back to normal. And I’m hearing lifters making a lot of sound too. Which is making me scared of the engine blowing up. They only make a noise when I’m stopped and the engine is not running, and in the morning when it’s on a cold start. It’s driving me crazy, not sure if I should just take it to a tuner first. Also it’s wasting a lot more gas than usual .
@velosterscrub
@velosterscrub Жыл бұрын
For the car going into limp mode, it could either be the DCT acting funky or more likely the Crank Position Sensor. A common side effect of a bad crank position sensor is the car going into limp mode for seemingly no reason. The ticking is just the noise of the GDi direct injection system, nothing to worry about.

For Veloster Turbo, the 2013-2015 cars were torque converter 6 speeds, and 2016-2017 were 7 speed DCTs.

You should specified which DCT because there is a DCT 6 speed and the DCT 7 speed which is solid.
@velosterscrub
@velosterscrub Жыл бұрын
The 7-speed DCT isn't too reliable either at least in its software. People often complained about the transmission stalling at random and even filed a lawsuit against Hyundai for it under the reasoning of the Lemon Law. It also didn't help that they weren't too good at holding up around the 300whp range. There will be the outliers of course but there is no arguing that a notable number of DCT cars are not reliable. I've also heard things about the 6 speed DCT which was only in the NAVs, but I don't know much about N/A Velos. And for clarity's sake, I was talking about the 7-speed DCT in the video👀

Changed the fluid with motul DCT... 2 quarts seemed to help any shuttering issues. Now the daughter drives it. Not necessarily a fix but did help.
