I mean you could totally attempt that. But I've already dropped a video on piggybacks. Some ecu's play nice with piggybacks, some don't. If you look at what a dyno sheet from a piggyback looks like, you'd definitely feel differently! You're right though, all the bolt on's in the world don't mean anything with a tune. FBO without a tune? maybe +20 or so hp. With the tune? easily pushing the limits of the stock turbo and head studs.

The front grill can be changed out to a more air efficient intake Grill even removing the front license plate can help that one extra inch makes a big difference in the intake airflow also where the flood lights are placed they have intake air vent ports that can be attached to that area with high performance intake fan that will allow more air intake and finally the bottom skid plate that is normally made out of plastic from the factory can be changed out for a metal one with holes in it to allow even more airflow that helps allow the engine to breathe better dissipating Heat. Make sure that you're cooling hoses are well protected so they do not melt. And don't forget to remove heat shield from Hood if your car has one. Your paint might get baked but it'll keep your engine cooler without it. Use 5W-20 pure synthetic Quaker State oil and change it every 1,000 MI make sure you use a high performance oil filter which may be a pain in the ass but will save your engine.

Nice video man, however I feel your numbers are about 50whp off. I had mine dyno tuned and based on their previous results a stock gen 1 VT makes about 140whp. Though I agree with most all of your mods and thorough descriptions, I do want to add that the biggest constriction of power is the intercooler- if I upgraded my intercooler I would have been able to get at least an extra 20-30 more whp (the stock one just heat soaks too quickly). Most tuners I talked to also said that if you're trying to hit the 300whp and above mark you have to upgrade the internals- the stock ones won't handle it. Was talking to a builder two weeks ago about upgrading the turbo and they warned me that even stuffing the turbo without upgrading the internals will quickly cause engine failure. Another big thing to consider with upgrading is what transmission you have. The 2012-15 the auto's are trash, the manuals are ok...16-18 the autos and manuals are ok, but the dct is garbage. I hope any of this is helpful. Thanks
@AustinSWarren Жыл бұрын
Youve got a lot of good notions in here! On the dyno thing, every dyno is different. Dynojet vs mustang dynos I think explains your 50hp discrepancy.
@notsaying7801 Жыл бұрын
A bit confused on the ethanol mention, as unless an engine is built specific for it running higher amounts of it will cause reliability issues, one of which is because of it having less lubricity and causing it to wash oil off the cylinder walls, cause corrosion in the injectors and if I remember correctly most of the fuel lines don't like it much either
@AustinSWarren Жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right. Depends on the engine. In this platform, replacing the low pressure fuel pump and the fuel line are the only requirements. Fuel additives are highly recommended for the lubricity issue, as well as a shorter oil change interval.

Depends what year you have for the VT but for the downpipe the best one to go with is the pierce motorsports downpipe either high flow cat or cat less. For cat back exhaust I would go with an MBRP cat back. For the intake you can go with numerous options like the K &N intake or the SXTH element one but personally I use a Injen short ram intake. And for the FMIC tork motorsports is probably the best one

That's hard to say because, like you say, it's such a new car. Things like BOV valves and intakes don't necessarily add performance but they do add smiles! I would say look at getting a tune if available. Something stage 0 or stage 1 that works for a mostly stock car. See where the potential is!

Hey man gotta question I have the same engine in my 2016 koup and I heard their were issues with boost when you switch to a aftermarket bov if you can help me to clarify whether I would have some issue with boost thanks and great video man btw really helpful
@AustinSWarren2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah so the issues I've seen with the bov arise from the spring/timing of the bov. The ecu has a very specific timing it's expecting the bov to operate in. Step outside of that and it's a CEL. It's not problem unless looking at a CEL annoys you. To solve it, you have to make sure the ecu can control the BOV within that range. If you have a BOV with interchangeable springs, you want one as light as possible so the ECU doesn't have to work hard to get what it wants. This can be addressed with either the bov spring or upgrading the solenoid that controls the bov. Some times it takes both to address the CEL. It could be tuned out but I doubt any tuner will go to such lengths to address an issue like that.

@AustinSWarren2 жыл бұрын
Well, because '13 are known to have bad internals, I'd say you're probably going to approach your limit very soon. I would worry about the block. Alternatively, if you can trade up to a '16 or newer, that might make more sense financially. Compared to trying to find a '16 block, have it swapped. Or taking the '13 block and changing out all of the parts.

Awesome Video , I can never find info about this little engine. Except for tuners offering tunes and a down pipe / and intake etc. HOWEVER , the METH Injection is what grabbed me. 19 Elantra GT N -Line with a clutch ) . This is the slowest most mundane car I have owned at 55 and I bought it cuz im not wealthy anymore and I dont live outside my means and it was the coolest possible car being sold that was practical ( hatch ) and most importantly had a clutch ( that they paid you 1200.00 to take the better trans AND upgraded you to fucking PS4S tires for free on a fucking Hyundai . Anyway I LOVE THE CAR cuz I paid 20K new . 20 K gets you NOTHING TODAY , I MEAN NOTHING in the way of ANY IDEA of sporty and engaging . I expected VERY LITTLE in the way of power if anything at all and frankly a 1.6 engine to me is not even worth building " in my 55 year old mind" unless its in a 2500.00 pound car or even lighter . So I dont think its a great idea to use it as base to go fast even if its cuz thats what you got to work with . I ended up liking the car WAY MORE THEN EX{ECTED on so many levels ( THE FUCKING PRICE and what you get ) but i was most shocked by handling with the german dudes IRS and suspension with the free GOD tires . The power, what I expected and some nites with perfect air I like it more then expected and when hot meh. I AM NOT HAPPT TO HAVE DI without some Port or something to clean . So meth allows for more timing and fuel and cleans the top of the engine and modulates temps a bit . 3 for one , no need ( for my HP wants/ purposes for the Intercooler wich was an obvious weak link from day one. No IC cost removing bumper and other stuff needed . If my car is 180 HP stock and pushing 3100lbs which is light for today but heavy fora 1.6 that loses a little from heat and NEEDS to be in the exact right gear to feel it has enough power . 1st with open diff is often too much power and such a quick gear . But I am used to V8s or bigger turbo 4s that are still not like a 400 or more V8 where you always have power. I wouldnt even want more boost in 1st but for sure everywhere and 4 5-6 especially) 5-6 are both overdrive and gutless unless your flying, So too me 250 WHP would be perfect shit 225 -30 would make it GREAT as what it is designed to be which is the last CHEAP sensible car that has just enough ( any less an statement fails) HP to not be just an appliance and something you look foward to driving even if nots the kind of car you make excuses to drive . At the least you get to flat foot it ( I think in dead stock trim its is a SUPER PLEASENT engine sound even if not loud , i dont need loud but like a nice tone and smoothness from a 4 that doesnt sound like its screaming with bolts in its mouth and not going anywhere or just shit a cruising) to redline it and quick shifting it which it likes and never misses a shift . It just make little trips fun by shifting . It has to me nice weight to and decent steering and the GRIP is stupid as far as cornering speed on entry , the diif is what it is but for corners I just adjust a little and Im still like WTF did I just do on the mountain road with insane technical turns 5-10-15 or more in a row multiple times in a drive often. Its faster then it needs to be for that kind of momentum driving WHICH is why I think the car as far as the chassis suspension and brakes would not at all be overpowered for SURE with225-230 wheel which feel like I think every owner would like stock if they dont mod cars and arent obsessed with being fast but want a car that feels right. Basically a GTi minus the diff , 250 and it should feel quick like a fast 90s car which is plenty fast if its just your transportation but you wanna enjoy it and match the chassis to the power on the aggressive side . I imagine with the meth you can have an 87 tune that is turned up a smidge without buying expensive gas and then you can have a 93 + Meth to have some more fun but dont lose the nice thing about 87 being useable. I STILL CAN NOT BELIEVE just because its designed to be run on 87 and they say the 93 doesnt do anyting although I could imagine how that could be. Somehow Im not a believer ( wrong or right that intakes do anything besides intake noise unless your trying to make big power . I feel like a tune and meth injection for both power but SAFETY and cleaner engine would actually be enough and downpipes are cheap . I dont even want a louder exhaust . Just want that power bump that makes the car fit the suspension ( which also is not crashy or bouncey and for street driving and if you not a maniac is fine for me as a grocery getter that I take some turns at stupid speeds and the car isnt even passing limits and feels GREAT to know I am pushing it and not gonna be going TOO fast so its not fun . I am not driving so hard for long while on brakes , because no LSD I am entering fast and momentum driving and not trying to slow down fast from high speeds that I am even Ok with the brakes . Dont want to race or beat anybody although I might slow roll somebody if they have a stock whatever that isnt super fast and want to beat somebody and engage even if it is to lose but make them question why their XYZ didnt crush the hyundai they way they figured and looking and sounding stock makes that fun. I will watch other videos of yours to see how you handled the tuning . I am not flush so whatever I would do would be IT. I dont want keep paying for tuning . Plus I dont want to start braking stuff or over powering the clutch or hurting the trans etc , Just enough to feel stock if they did it right which is only off with the power in certain scenarios and ways . Weighing only 3100 pounds 45-70 more HP will give you /me the feel /power to match what they put into the platform and components . I love the seats for comfort and ergnomics but I am already jammed up on the door on turns with the speed I carry on technical roads if I am going for it which adds to the drama of slow car fast . I hope I find more content about your meth set up and cost to purchase and get set up. I want this car to last and I want to able to rev it and shift it without always having to get out of it before its fun cuz I am going way too fast . Having the MT the car is already slower then the DCT , I drove the DCT and even though it was obvious its the better car for going fast and for not needing to manaully shift from 6th to 4th or 3rd when you have a quick decision to make when you need or want power and I WAS surprised who fast the DCT car was by keeping the turbo spooled and shifting so fast and OFTEN but its not an ACTUAL fast car so still enjoy the power shift over acceleration but for an auto daily that is not expensive with tiny engine it never feels underpowered. It was good to see and hear a smart guy just illuminate whats actually important and not just talk about making the most power the easiest or by throwing a ton at a car that unless you lust like a challenge and spending money to brag how much power you have with an underdog / small displacement engine and speak to the DI issue and the thing that is gonna help your engine survive no matter your goals. I would also like to know what somebody who did decide to get big power does about the diff issue or if they would just torque steer and wheel tramp everywhere and just want a car that is highway fast . That and if you know how much the stock clutch will hold and other stock components if all somebody wants is to go from 180-220 up to 250 ( i think with 250 WHP the car would start being nutty for what it is without going down a money hole ). With all the talk of heat modifying the hood to let heat out if it could be done without too much water getting would be cool but probably a bit much to figure I also dont know if these hyundai engines should be pushed . Luckily Hyundai puts it in everything so a replacement should not completely destroy you .

@AustinSWarren2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is where my meth port is. I plan to add one more nozzle on the intercooler piping eventually. The spacer has to be there lol. Or are you asking why my nozzle is there and not before the TB? That's the most efficient location on this car, other than porting each runner.

My interest has been peaked with a water methanol injection. Do you trigger it manually or is it set automatically to come on at full throttle?
@AustinSWarren2 жыл бұрын
Depends on your controller but almost all of them are automatic, just depends on what's the reference. Throttle is usually a "dumb" reference because 100% throttle doesn't mean much if the ECU is deciding how to make that happen. Some are built to reference boost, min and max. Example: at 6psi, spray 1%. after 15psi, spray 100% Some are built to reference RPM, min and max. Example: at 2000rpm, spray 1%. after 5000rpm, spray 100% Some are 3D controllers with programmable maps. Example: Making decisions based on multiple references. Several Meth Controllers can do this. Standalone ECU's could do this. JB4 has a controller that can do this. Just depends on your needs and how much money you want to spend at that point! Mine is the AEM V2 controller. References boost!

1:24 300 whp with FBO on a 1.6t?? No chance. I'm a little late to the comments, but even the Veloster N with a much bigger engine and turbo can't hit 300hp. You gotta swap out the turbo to see those numbers.
@AustinSWarren Жыл бұрын
Lol when I said 280-300 could be done, I pointed out heat & flow. 280whp, I've seen plenty of dyno sheets done on a stock turbo. 300whp "could" be done on a stock turbo but it's not gonna last long. 280-300 is always going to require E85 + Meth to increase timing and manage the extra heat. You're in "max effort" territory up there. FBO VN's can crack 300whp on the stock turbo as well. 1.6L vs 2.0L isn't what I'd consider much bigger. The extra 400cc's came with about an extra 400lbs too. All that being said, if you live at altitude, you're never going to see those numbers on either! So yes, no chance! But I live at sea level lol.

Stage 1 is a full tune (if you're dct) also a trans tune. Stage 2 would be full bolt on/ with tuning (wich is needed) Stage 3 would be an upgraded turbo. Nobody knows the upper limits of the stock motor due to the lack of aftermarket support and people only wanting to do basic mods like a race chip or jb4 an intake a resonator delete. Not wanting to void warranty. Fbo on 93 is likley on par with a gti fbo. On e85 I'm willing to bet this motors upper limits with an upgraded turbo is around 500hp. I have an 800hp Honda civic the b18c1 for example can squeeze around 400 and it wasn't designed for boost any more you need to build but a na motor that can take more than double factory power that was never meant to see boost. I have a 23 forte gt dct it's quick for what it is capable of keeping up with and beating stock 5.7 hemi cars. Kia is doing a disservice without putting the elantra n goodies or the 2.5t in it. That said these things should easily be capable of 300whp fbo 93 and tuning.
