I prefer capes because you can see them yourself, even when playing SSP. Capes also have a story behind it, names not directly. For example, seeing someone with a 2011 cape means they've been around for a long time and were actively involved with the community (though there's a 99% chance it's a sold account bought by some kid to flex).
