I had the pleasure of being a Staff Producer under Don when he was the head of A&R at Capitol. He was ALWAYS a song man. I remember piles and piles of songs on his desk. When I walked past his office, he was constantly going through material, always the last one to leave the building. And it all begins and ends with great songs... and I'm totally onboard with his comments on "star power" and the X factor... hard to fake that.

He is so right about the middle market! I say the same thing. As a songwriter, my small "fan" base is between 40 and 70 years old, so I completely agree!
