This time I am tackling the 2 color or two tone dice styles that a lot of people have been asking for. I didn't do the swirl style with the transparent outer layer, but I can always do that in a future video if enough people want to see how!
I made 4 sets in 3 styles in this video. The first set is a transparent sky style that has one color settle to the bottom. It also was made with glow in the dark pigment to help it pop in a blacklight. The second set I made with a 2-1 ratio of opaque to transparent dye in the dice. In retrospect I should have had the ration be the opposite and be 1-2, but I still like how my Pheonix red and gold set came out. The third set and final style is a 1-1 ratio mixing two opaque colors. I made 2 sets in this style - the black and green Eldritch Nightmare or Emerald Dream set, and the Dragon's Egg gold and black set. I really think that the gold and black set are the best ones to come out of this experiment.
Amazon link to the resin material that I used. Available in smaller batch sizes as needed: amzn.to/2KXlUkY
Amazon link to the mold material I used: amzn.to/2zccY5P
I also used dixie cups, pop-sickle sticks, gold (duh), pipettes, and various pigments from Hobby Lobby or Michaels. You can find plenty of different pigment styles for various prices online or in stores. I also used just plain food dye and you can see, it came out great as well. Make sure you use casting resin, or it will probably come out tacky.

I agree. I find that the colours being able to blend together makes it look cleaner and it reads better in my mind. The gold and black are a bit too much of a contrast to me and it looks really seperated and disjointed. I think the first set would look great if they blended together and swirled rather than the blue sitting at the bottom. It'd be like the difference between looking at a fish tank (which is what the set feels like to me) and being underwater. I've never made dice before, though, so take what I say with a handful of salt.

Yes absolutely! Check out either my 24k gold dice that I did maybe 2 months ago, as I go over the process in that video, or check out my "Casting Clear Dice" two part series. I go over the mold making process in a lot more detail, but it also talks about some equipment that would help make your molds stronger/ready to make clear/transparent dice. They are completely optional, but it's good to have those options sometimes, or at least know that they exist.

I may be biased since my favorite color is green, but I really like the Eldritch Emerald set. I love how the colors swirl together. It's like an emerald being corrupted by some nightmare, and it's beginning to forget what's good and what's evil. That die tells a story! The emerald of corruption. Heck, you could probably make a quest out of that and give the dice away to whomever receives the emerald in-game and becomes corrupted by it. Then whomever receives the set will have a story to tell whenever they show the dice to someone new.

Yup! It cures without a pressure pot, the pot only helps remove bubbles and ensure a more consistent result. I like to use a myriad of pigments and glitters. Mostly I use whatever happens to be on sale at Hobby Lobby or Michaels haha. Try and avoid any water based dyes/glitters though if you can. I throw the pipettes away. They are too hard to clean from the inside out filled with resin, and not worth the cost in water that it would take to clean them, so I just throw them out. Glad I could help in some way :) I'd love to see what you create if you ever give it a shot! :)

Woah. That glow in the dark is sooooooooo pretty! Not that the others aren’t (I really love the green and black ones, actually), but the glowing ones are so enchanting! Also, coming from that first dice video reeeeally makes all the improvements you’ve made in just under a year pop! From the equipment to the filming to the techniques to the background music, all of that improved so much! And it wasn’t bad to begin with :3 Anyways, now that I let out all of the praises cooped up in me, I was wondering - are you thinking of making another type of two-colour dice that is mostly clear with a little squirt (;)) of colour in it? Like, it’s absolutely crystal clear, no colouration, but there is this flowing ink wave inside of it? I don’t know how to better describe them, but they are so so sooooo pretty! Before I was looking at them, because I saw a “crystal” to fit at the end of a flashlight to make “magical glowing gem” with a not uniform colour and, as I couldn’t coordinate with the person selling them well enough, was looking into making those swirls myself. I assumed it was just a little injection of ink, but my research in KZbin videos (I admit, it was not all that extensive, so I might’ve missed something) only led to the ones that explained how to generally dye resin and the ones that showed ink being injected into resin and kind of clotting up in it, which was not what I wanted. Do you think that idea sound interesting enough for you to try it? :3 Or maybe you already know how it’s done? By the way, if my description wasn’t clear enough, I could e-mail you a picture of such dice! P.S.: I honestly wouldn’t make that joke if you didn’t draw our attention to it at 1:43 :P

I am glad that you like it so much :) I appreciate that my attempts to improve my quality have not gone un-noticed haha. Late to the party, but the Emerald Night looks amazing because they DO fade into each other. If there was a clear split between black and green, it wouldn't have been as stellar. As are, they are bits of captured nebula and empty space. The black and gold two tone is nice, but I can buy that. @Rybonator
@Rybonator 5 жыл бұрын
Planning on doing one of those in the future :) I really want to nail my process down 100% before I do so however. I used a stin varnish spray, and put far too much of it. You can use a glossy varnish, but if it's not meant for plastic, it will probably look pretty similar. But I will do a video demoing all the methods sometime soonish :)

If you want more intense color (for food or epoxy), try Americolor gel food coloring! I also hear that alcohol dye works well. I bought some dye that was made for epoxy, but they're expensive (and I got the cheapest I could find at about a dollar for a TINY bottle. Next time I will try food color, the Americolor gel I mentioned. (It's the only food coloring I've used for many years now.)

These look incredible! I don't have pipettes but I do have a syringe. Would that work just as well for doin swirly swirls?
@Rybonator

Thank you :) Totally! The swirl effect mostly comes from either mixing the colors very slightly before putting them in, or using a toothpick afterwards. I'll try and do a video on it in the future :) But you can totally use your syringe.

Absolutely! Glad you liked it :) Unfortunately I don't have a link, as I bought them all in Michaels/hobby lobby. You can however see which ones they are in the video and look them up, but I totally recommend going and checking in the stores if you have some near you. I have looked for glitters like this online and sometimes they can go for like 20$, when I got them for $3 in store. Just an FYI :)

great video, really helpful!! i have a question: are the pipetes disposable, or do you clean them somehow? i mean, for the cups you can use silicone ones, like the ones used in the food industrie for desserts, and, since the resin won't stick to them you can reuse them and don't waste in the plastic cups... i'm looking for minimizing the desposable stuff in the processes to make my own dice and playing pieces, and any tips would be very appreciated :)
@Rybonator
@Rybonator 5 жыл бұрын
The pipettes are disposable. It would be far too hard to get in the small hole with a cleaning utensil and fully clean them each time. It would take far more effort than it is worth for me. However I do like your idea of a silicone cup for mixing everything together. I'll have to look into that :) My biggest tip is to just experiment until you find what works for you! What works for others doesn't always work out for everyone, so just have fun with it, and enjoy the process. :)

@Rybonator
@Rybonator 5 жыл бұрын
So I'm planning on doing a full how to polish sets of dice video in the future, so check that out for a more detailed description, but the short answer is plastic polish or car headlight polish. And if you need to get rid of scratches, sandpaper up to a super fine grit. :)
@Rybonator
@Rybonator 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Glad you like them :) I use the nail polish trick for tiny spots to cover up where the nibs were, but as I said in my other comment, plastic designed for polish or car headlights works great.

You totally can! Thought I would be very careful with water based dyes. Because you can only put like 1 drop, they are often transparent. If they are transparent, it's hard to see where one color starts and the other color ends.
