I’ve had several different models of Foodsaver vacuum sealers over the last 15 years. kzbin.infoUgkxLarn2Zt7095D2lp3tN-bj5JtYPg3Wz2 I picked up the Nesco unit because it consistently receives top reviews it all across the Internet. For freezing soups, sauces, fruit etc. Hubby puts it in a ziplock bag, freezes it for a few days and then opens the ziplock bag and puts it in the vacuum seal bags. Machines and a varity of bag styles, sizes and thicknesses. FYI...I am only a customer of theirs, I'm not a representative, influencer, etc.

I have the same vacuum sealer as you. If you remove the two black foam rings from the top of the lid and bottom, rinse them off and reinstall, the vacum will stop when complete instead of continuously running and you have to hit the button to start the seal process. I think the foam padding wears out over time and allows air to pass during the vacum and sealing process. This works for me. Thanks for the video.

Store these used bags on or in an empty paper towel cardboard holder to prevent creases. I also got one from Aldi a few days ago. I wanted vacuum for sous vide cooking. I had been using a hand pump w/bags from Amazon or water displacement method. That didn’t always remove enough air and I had to clamp the bags down in the water. That can prevent water from circulating well around the bag. It is a good idea for certain items. And for others, even IF you buy PREMIUM freezer bags you have to be careful of how you handle the bags when going through your freezer moving items around looking for certain items. As even using good to premium freezer bags, when filled with hard, frozen foods become very delicate and susceptible to abrasions that go right through those bags if bags are slid, shifted, bumped or banged into each other. And you KNOW how when you stack bags of food in your freezer, once frozen don't exactly just move freely without scraping against or banging into other bags. And that's when said abrasions scrape or poke holes in the bags.

@Guy Fieri If you are saying a good Parmesan can keep on the counter for weeks, but yellowed colored salted wax called processed cheese, needs some help ? - I totally agree

Never had any problems you mention when vacuum sealing cheeses. I've had blocks of cheese aging in my refrigerator for up to three or four years without any problems. White and Yellow Cheddars, Parmesans and Romanos.
@shoddyproductions97934 жыл бұрын
@@rubbnsmoke I don't get it either Mike. My food saver "manual" said not to do it, and I was looking for explanations. Most commercial places vacuum without moisture condensing on the wrap, or adding parchment. I call bullshit ?
@rubbnsmoke4 жыл бұрын
@@shoddyproductions9793 Well, I don't know if I'd call bullshit on any instructions stating to "NOT" use parchment or other protective items. I've used parchment and/or paper towel when vacuum sealing many dry goods. Especially items such as dry active yeast, flour, dry powdered milk to prevent any powder from being pulled out of the bag and into the vacuum chamber itself. Any powder that gets into the vacuum chamber could actually get into the vacuum pump itself and destroy it, effective destroying the entire unit. But I NEVER use parchment or wax paper when sealing cheeses. I will occasionally put a piece of parchment folded in a few layers to protect bags from a sharp corner/point of a bone when sealing meats that have bone in them. Never had a problem with chicken poking a hole in a bag. Steaks, pork and lamb chops do have bones that you should protect the bag from any sharp parts.

I just bought a different model Food Saver and I was looking for any hacks to create your own sealable bags. Thanks for the tips and info on using those Ziploc heavy-duty thick bags to replace the Food Saver brand bags that are definitely costly. I subscribed to your channel John. Many thanks, from Canada.

I use a similar method to seal mylar bags. I just use small strips of vacuum sealer bags in place of his strips from the ziploc bags.

@rubbnsmoke4 жыл бұрын
@Joe mama Sorry, but you're wrong there about wasting bag material double sealing bags. I've been double sealing my bags just about as long as I started using my first Foodsaver 20+ years ago. When initially making my bags my double seals are literally 1/16 to 3/32 inch apart(I measured a couple bags in my freezer for the sake of argument), a minimal sacrifice for the insurance of a second seal. And the other end that actually goes into the vacuum chamber leaves at the bare minimum 3/4 inch so there's plenty on the "tag" end to put that second seal. So your blasting us for putting that double seal in for insurance is completely wrong. You obviously haven't got much experience, if any using a vacuum sealer(not a cryovac, that's a completely different machine). Otherwise you would know how they work and the capabilities of said machines. And trust me, I've been using a Foodsaver long enough, and on enough different types of foods, everything from commercial meats to wild game to my charcuterie meats, jerky and Biltong to vegetables, dried fruits and nuts that I would consider myself a pro on the use of a vacuum sealing machine. So again, your statement of wasting bag material putting that second/double seal in is very much incorrect. Then again, what could we expect from a clown with a screen name of "Joe mama"? Says "Troll" to me.

@Joe mama And of course that's your reply.

Could you please explain how to double seal? I thought you meant double bag but I think you mean to seal the same bag twice. How do you do that once it's already been sealed? Do you mean just melting a second seal without using the vacuum function? Sorry if I'm being thick. Thanks for your help.
@crystald36553 жыл бұрын
@@Barry-Hall You would vacuum and seal as normal the first time then release the bag and move it slightly toward you, so you have the unmelted bag where the sealing bar is and then seal it again without the vacuum function if you have that option.
