Great demo. Just curious as how you only have 17 frets on your fret board, the templates I got from CB Gitty have 24. How do I get away from using up so much wire? Mine is a 23” scale also. It’s too late for this one as they are already cut but for future reference.

Thanks Bob. Well, the longer the box, the shorter the fret board, ( That was going on a longer box ) the bridge position has a lot to do with it also.

Use a Japanese pull saw to cut your plugs off. Flush cuts with no marring.

Avoid scuffage by placing a piece of thin card or plastic on the fret board to rest the saw face on, its thickness will determine your ‘overage’

Not that it matters but if you use a dowel the markers will be exposed end grain

You can also just carve them. Square blank. Remove corners. Octagon. Remove corners. Light sanding. Done. Or chuck the blank into a drill and rub it against sandpaper. The taper is the win. That being said, I don't think there's anything wrong with a dowel except the lack of wood selection at the Big Box store. Of course you can buy anything online.

Hey mate I’m having a problem can I make the neck level with the box before I add the fret board as I am adding a sheet metal face on the box part of the guitar do I have to compensate for the thickness of the metal plate as well or no Maybe I can adjust it with the height of the bridge to give the right clearance? Or doesn’t it mater. I’m using a Tasmanian oak neck and fret board that is neck 3 and 1/4 inch and fret board 1/4 and one notch which is 8 millimeters

@@martywright1829 Hi Marty. I would compensate for the thickness of the metal sheet if its going to be the new top of the box, but you may be able to adjust the bridge height for the clearance as well. Happy building. M~

Why not just draw them on with a Sharpie? I'm working on a regular guitar fretboard replacement and though I have put in regular dot markers on a few fretboards, I am trying to save time on this and decided to use a Sharpie on maple and pass on all of the extra work involved with inlays. This fretboard is already radiused (Stew/Mac) but if I were radiusing myself I would absolutely inlay plastic dots. I'm burning in the side dots with a wood burning tool. I tested doing that on some scrap for the surface markers but doing that compresses the wood.
