Lot of you asked for a tutorial about my Lost World tank. It’s a kind of simple low tech aquarium. Ideal for beginners since it has low demands and easy to maintain. You can build your own lost world easily if you follow the tutorial. If you don’t prefer statues in aquarium or it’s against your views (sorry if it’s the case) just skip the statue or place a nice seiryu or dragon stone instead. I know, I know it’s possible to build it cheaper and without filtering or fertilizing, even without water, I guess... Lay it down: I prefer the stable, filtered and fertilized water.
I tried to make it budget optimized but I can’t say it’s cheap though. This hobby is pricey, deal with it. If you want a stable and nice aquarium you gonna need good filtering, lamp and soil. I wouldn’t be cheap on this it’s worth it in long term. You should choose light between 1000-1300 lumen or a dimmable one. It fits for these plants in 7-8 hours daily, they grow nice and smooth.
If you start the tank with a lot of plant, it makes the process easier but it doesn’t mean it would be spotless. I purposely chose low demand plants so you won’t need a co2 system, but you should give it a try later on. :)
Always plant fast growing plants (rotala) too, it also helps the start. I always use RO water (en.wikipedia.o...) and I salt it up with GH+ powder to reach 150-170 tds. The water needs to be 24-25 degrees Celsius. If your room is not warm enough use a 25-30W heater. In summer you will need to cool the water. You can make it different ways but I prefer this.
In the first week of the start it’s better to change 30% of water every day. I use the Tropica fertilizer in the weekly factory dosage, but this time I split it on daily dosage.
If you have a running tank, take some bio filter media out from the filter and mix the water from the old tank into the new one. In the first weeks a white gel like thing can appear on the woods but don’t get worried it doesn’t effect anything, totally ok. Easy to remove by hand or with a pipe.
Important!
In the first couple of weeks a little bit of algae can appear, but as it comes as it goes. You can install the livestock 3 weeks later. If you put them in in the first day, the ammonia peak bursts from the soil can kill them.
An aquarium like this is a great entry into the hobby. I’m sure it will give you a lot of happiness and you can learn so much from it. Good luck, let’s go and build you own Lost World.
Stuffz:

+30x30x30 cube aquarium
+Light: Aquael leddy smart plant, or chihiros a 301
+ADA amazonia soil

As always you make beautiful tanks. However, I must comment on the filter setup. One should always get all mechanical filtration done before it hits the biomedia, so in my humble opinion the fine pad should go directly behind the coarse sponge. Speaking of the coarse sponge, seen as you already got one on the intake, you could do away with the one in the filter altogether. That said, I'm guessing you put the fine pad on top for ease of access?

I have been doing this since 1969. Bravo!!! And to those who don’t have this budget, I created a great little system in 1976 with a ten gallon tank, duckweed, rocks, gravel and minnows from a local Pennsylvania creek in the USA. The highest tech for lighting at the time was a twin bulb fluorescent shop light which I went crazy on and spent $10 for a pair of newly invented plant bulbs. My dad, an engineer, would lie on my bed on Sunday afternoons and watch the duckweed swirl in the gentle current as the minnows rafted up in the shade of the plants. I used a twig cut to length to corral the duckweed toward the rear of the tank surface water. The minnows would dart out to feed or explore and retreat back into the bubbles and shade of the back of the tank. Not expensive. Not complicated and very repeatable. Again, BRAVO!! Perfecto!

I like that in all your videos you stick to the point and don't wrap your creations around some pretentious ideology. True talent doesn't need a sales pitch. You don't put bullshit adjectives in your video titles, you just let the viewers decide on one. And every time they are lost for words expressing how beautiful everything looks. This is why you are my favorite aquascaper above all of them. All. Of. Them!

Awesome videos! Awesome step by step filming and editing! I’ve been doing a planted tank for about 15 years now. Started with very little knowledge or modern day equipment like today. Started with root tabs and regular gravel, compact fluorescent lights, and diy co2. Today: dirted, LEDs, and co2 regulator. After watching YOUR videos, especially the “lost world” series, you got this high tech aqua enthusiast to get a back to basics low tech nano tank. And to be honest, I enjoy the new tank more than my larger original tank. Amazing how this hobby has turned around. I just wanted to extend my personal gratitude to you for inspiring me to try something new in this hobby. I’m glad technology like YT is out there, and people like you are inspiring this hobby to others who would get a better (and faster) education on the set up of these lost worlds ;) Thank you for dedicating your time and effort. It does go on noticed by us silent majority. Wish you more success in the future.

@subegh singh..I Respect your comment, I am as a Buddhist. It cannot be accepted that he using a Buddha's statue for an aquarium or even using any religious related things for these kind of works. Finally we are not for Hanging. We are to give up everything.

I don't mean to be disrespectful but its a concrete statue, its not Buddha. A concrete statue cant be a pure soul. I get your point but what is worse than using a concrete statue is idolatry. The Creator hates idolatry.

The Eheim 300 L/h pump is a lot of 'overkill'; it makes all the water pass through the filter in about 5 minutes. A much smaller pump would do just fine.

Purplepillow_ Symbols are important and meaningful to people, which is why many Christians decorate their walls with crosses, for instance, and in a beautiful aquarium like this, having Buddha’s icon can create a meditative atmosphere which seems contextually-fitting.

@@sleepydesu646 I'm a Buddhist and people use Buddha statues and Buddha's HEADS (very disrespectful if you know Thai-Myanmar history) as decoration without knowing anything about Buddhism. It's like having a country's flag as a rug.
