Girl! You did a good job! You helped an ol' dog learn a new trick! I am 72....been sewing since 7 yr old and can't find what I want to wear in the stores. But I got a whole lot of dresses I like wearing that I have been wanting to copy.....I bought books to help me. But your video makes it so EASY to see how! I love it when younger people can show me new things! Thank you! I got this now....

I like the roll of tracing paper, using a pin to mark both front and back seams...and...tracing front 'and' back necklines on the same pattern piece. I'm going to copy those techniques. My question is how do you transfer the seam lines from the paper to the fabric?
@shay_made3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Hmmm...I usually use chalk or a fabric marker to trace the pattern onto the fabric. Then I'd just make sure to sew these pieces together considering the measured seam allowance I added to the pattern. So if I added 1/4" seam allowance to my pattern I'll sew the pieces together at the 1/4" mark. I hope this answers your question!
@3deeguy3 жыл бұрын
@@shay_made I got some excellent ideas from your tutorial. Thanks. Transferring the pattern to the fabric was my next question. My first project was making a foam case for a machine I had built. All I needed was a ruler. Going from that to something that I would actually wear will take more experience. I want to impress my wife...and my daughters. 'That' will make it fun. A fitted shirt is a big jump. I'm gonna try some easier projects first. Thanks again.
@shay_made3 жыл бұрын
@@3deeguy Oh and I forgot to mention, when you trace the pattern onto the fabric, keep it folded in half, and trace it on the fold of the fabric. Unless you're going to have an open front, i.e. button front or zip front. I'll make a video in the near future showing how you use your patterns and transfer them to the fabric! But practice, practice, practice and you'll definitely be able to make your fitted shirt! And I'm sure your wife and daughter will be very impressed! Thank you for watching!

Hello, i have watched some of your videos, and i have really enjoyed watching them. They are to the point and straightforward. The garments that you have made are great. I am teaching myself to sew on a sewing machine, and i hope to be as good as you. How did you learn to sew, are you self-taught, or from college /school?
@shay_made4 ай бұрын
Hi! You’re so sweet, thank you so much!! I’m self taught. I started by thrift flipping and tailoring the clothes in my closet to help me get familiar with my sewing machine. Then I moved on to studying clothes I had and trying to replicate them. Trying out beginner friendly sewing patterns is a good place to start too. In the beginning it seems complicated but after a few projects you’ll really start to get the hang of it and before you know it you’ll be sewing up your own clothes😊

Hi...can you help me about please? I saw you were tracing the 1st sleeve from the back but you call it the front. And you traced again from the back, but you didn't name it. Im confused. But besides every thing I really appreciate your video. God bless you.
@shay_made3 жыл бұрын
Hi! When the shirt is laying so that the front of the shirt is faced down, when I fold back the sleeve, I'm now viewing what I call the front sleeve's curve. When the sleeve is folded back the front sleeve (half of the sleeve that face's the front of the shirt) is now facing up and I'm tracing along the seam that connects that front half of the sleeve to the front bodice armhole. The front half of the sleeves curve is slightly different than the back sleeves curve. So I wrote "front" on the paper so it's easier to know which direction to attach the sleeve to the armhole. I didn't write "back" because in my mind once I know what side is the front I know that that curved edge of the sleeve on that side should align with the front bodice's armhole which automatically means the other side will align with the back bodice's armhole. I hope this explanation helps! Thank you for watching and God bless you as well!
