Thanks for showing the technique. I've used Smooth-On however never thought about using a canvas. Since canvas is not necessarily a smooth surface does the mold come out smooth?

You're very welcome! Also, remember that whatever you use as your mold "shaper" (in my case, a canvas and a foam board), the texture, size, etc. will translate to your silicone mold. So if you want a perfectly smooth mold, a canvas is probably not the way to go unless you smooth the texture with gesso or something similar. (Finely sanded wood block would work beautifully as well!)

u can use the hardware store 100% silicone tubes.. not as easy to use but not as expensive, and add cornstarch to it ... i believe it was 1 to 2 cornstarch to silicone ratio...there is a vid somewhere of it, lol... but this a really pretty mold!!! and a professional job ... awesome vid ... thank u for your knowledge ... happy soaping! [ps, I use box's and bags and get 110% happy results with my soaps!! 😜😉💙

Hi. I just found your video on making a soap mold. my question is (and I'm sorry if it's a silly question.) how did you make your poster board bend in a way to to create the crisp edges and corners? i am trying to make a small silicone mold but i am not sure how to make the part that holds the liquid silicone. Hi Sarah, I just love what you do. On this video, i hear you saying that the part that creates the interior of your mold is made of canvas. What kind of canvas is that ? Is it smooth ? When i think of "canvas" i "see" a texture. What can i use ? I'm sorry my english is limited am i'm trying to understand the inside part of the old...

Good question! I haven't done CPOP yet, but I would contact the supplier and ask. They send a wonderful information packet with your order that has a lot of the specifications in it. (Of course, my son tossed mine out when he spilled milk on it... otherwise, I'd try looking it up in there.)

Just subtract the inner volume (for a box V = L x W x H) of the mould from the outer volume. It is likely that the uncured silicone rubber would be contained in a cylindrical form (such as a bucket). You can use the cylinder volume calculation (Pi x Radius x Radius x Height). and half the diameter of the narrowest part of the container and the estimated height (filled to approx 1" from the top) to work out the minimum requirement. It is of course advisable to have more at hand than the project requires.

A hard version? As in "not-flexible"? Silicone probably wouldn't be the way to go then. Perhaps you might want to consider resin or another medium? (Acrylic might work also, depends on what it's for.)

How did you calculate how much of the raw materials you would need? Would you mind sharing the dimensions of your silicone slab mold? oh and what do you mean by a canvas? is that like an artist canvas board and where did you get that? thanks so much.
@mandarinlollipop
@mandarinlollipop 11 жыл бұрын
Here is the link to calculate the amount of materials you will need for your project: www.hobbysilicone.com/calculations.htm The artist canvas (just a regular painting canvas from Michael's) I used was 1.25" x 9" x 12", so that is the inside measurement of my mold (or the cavity measurement. The overall mold is about 1.75" x 10" x 13". Hope this helps!
