That Cobb BOV reminds me of my Tial BOV on my Civic. I have wanted to get a WRX since they first came out, but never got the chance to get my hands on one. I have always been a Honda guy since I was 18 and bought an older Integra (back in 2001). I bought a 97 Civic for $1k back in 2014 and boosted the VTEC single cam that was in it and it would hang with modified WRXs. Now though, it has a built forged LSVTEC turbo in it and so far I was able to make 508 whp on my current setup, and still have room for more. Yes, it is still FWD, but with the LSD that I put in the trans it grabs and goes. Regardless of what I am into, I still always show love to other people's builds no matter what brand it is because they put their heart and soul into it and that's what matters to me. Awesome build brother.

7:03-7:09 = 0-60 in close to 6 seconds I know that factory intercooler was probably heat soaked but a 300hp wrx should be in the 4's 0-60... considering the stock ones can run it in 5 flat. Get a fmic, air oil separator, and a real tune... then you'll be closer to 300hp, your 0-60 will reflect it at that point.

So many people use stage 2 with either an intake or catless and then complain when they have problems. If you are using an OTS tune be sure to use the right parts!
@archangelpaladin448 жыл бұрын
Ya i call bs. Even if your "tuner" was giving you crank hp number based on some very generous conversion formula there is no way your tiny turbo could make that power with the stock intercooler on pump gas. Cobb says that a typical 2008 will make about 20% more whp on stage 2 so you're looking at 220-230 whp max so like 250-260 crank hp max. There is a reason why 2009-2014's are in such higher demand than 2008's.

On a wrx I would NOT upgrade the clutch, unless the trans is strengthened. There needs to be some slip in the system when driving hard, especially since common aftermarket mods increase torque (like Cobb Stage 1, 2). Torque is what kills drivelines Since it’s AWD, tires won’t slip like in 2WD. So that leaves either the clutch, or all other driveline components. I’d rather have the clutch slip than an axle snap or have my trans explode lol

But either way it really also is the driver. I know morons that have had card built like bricks but they went and blew them up because they were shit drivers. Also know a few that are pushing numbers WAAAY higher then i would dream on a WRX and its 5spd but the cars fine due the tune and having a driver that knows what he's doing.

Next to none to be honest @chefgamer. I had a small oil leak at one point and an exhaust leak but besides that it's still running strong!

+SubaruWRXRacing cool, do you recommend EWG? I wanna get rid of creeps permanently. Also if however your transmission breaks, where would you start to build a stronger one? This is one main reason why i dont wanna mod my wrx beyond stage 2, do you know where to get parts for stronger transmission or swaps for wrx 2011 in bay area ca? Thanks for your infos.
@SubaruWRXRacing9 жыл бұрын
+CHEFGAMER I don't really know many places over there, I would do a google search, I normally go to my tuner and ask and he generally will direct me in the right place. Find a local tune shop and ask one of them they should get you in the right place

I would pass on the bigger intercooler at your mod level. I did the bigger intercooler mod and my track times didn't improve. So to me it was a waste of money. The stock intercooler was working fine and I felt like I just threw money away. The best mod is to upgrade the stock turbo. That will make a significant performance gain.

i would smoke wrx all day in my little 1.8t jetta that thing would hit 90 on 3rd gear spooled way quicker than a wrx turbo but sadly i had to sell it to get wrx for some fun but mostly real use in these hard winter times

realistically this car is running more like 240-250 at the wheels. td04 and OTS map is certainly not capable of 300 to the wheels.

i think a cheap way to make power would be to get basic bolts ons, bigger injectors, a 50/50 meth kit and a good tune to max out that stock turbo along with some advanced timing. you'd probably be pushing around 375whp on that wrx don't you think ?

Hey I'm looking at an 08 with about 104k miles. Hypothetically if I bought it what kind of maintenance upgrades should I do first. Meaning getting a fresh tune up at a subaru dealership things like that? Great Video.
@SubaruWRXRacing9 жыл бұрын
Yeah so for that mileage, check out the timing belt for sure will need to be replaced about that time, fresh fluid flush, if it has aftermarket parts get it tuned
@dog9429 жыл бұрын
+Travis Davis Your timing belt, if not done, is due. NOW!!!! Im super cereal about that. No-one likes destroyed heads. I dont care if it looks healthy, if its not done, DO IT. Be sure to change the tensioners and water pump. Careful, bolts on these love to take the block threads with them. Determine if there are any vacuum/boost leaks, these are super important to fix. buy it good boost gauge and shell out for a good front 02 sensor. Itts the only way youll get good AFR readings, which is important not to blow up your engine. Check the plugs. Many people dont replace them, but its important to change every once in a while and check for warning signs. I do mine every 10k. Check them for warning signs. May as well do a compression test. If there are problems continue on to the leakdown. Still check your oil consumption. Generally, SOA sends them away unless its like 1/2 quart for 1200 miles. Choose a good oil. AND STICK WITH IT. I use royal purple 5w-30, but Im considering going to Motul. Stay with that 5w-30 viscosity. No good comes with changing it. Unless you live in a area where it is -20F everyday. ONLY USE OEM FILTERS. Finally, check your fuel trims. if the are running rich, you probably need to get your fuel filter replaced, Or your injectors replaced/cleaned and flow balanced, or the pump. Lastly, before any performance upgrades, I must stress the importance of fresh tires, good alignment, decent wheels, and good drivetrain health(CV axles, bearings, etc). Do your rear differential and your tranny/center fluids. Dont worry so much about your transmission right now. Some buddies of mine run 400 crank hp with original gearbox configurations. Just take it easy on them, dont shock them. If you want to know more, let me know. A local AWD dyno shop gave me an excellent list I could send you if you like. But good luck, My 2003 WRX is over 200k, and still has more crank HP then a 2015. Treat her right, she'll treat you good back.

+DOG Man thanks for all the information, i haven't purchased one yet. I found a silver one about 2 hours away, i'll definitely keep you posted. lol man I doubt I'd ever get to that much power. Again thanks for all the information.
@dog9429 жыл бұрын
Travis Davis My 2003(proud member of the bugeye mafia, WRC2001 winner, best WRX made) was pretty shot when I bought it a year ago with dead clutch and blown head gaskets. I had to divest money, not in upgrades, but to improve its condition before tuning it. I didn't have the money to pay labor so I did it myself. I saved a few bucks doing it this way but my situation sucked and I wouldn't want you to do the same. Wait for the perfect car to buy, don't settle. The WRX is a great car to learn mechanics on. Its a simple and easy car. Even difficult tasks like removing the engine and manual transmission rebulids come easier than most vehicles. It not like 300zx TT or a FD RX-7 with a hard ass learning curve. You can pretty much get whatever power you want out of it, It all depends on how much money and time you have for it. I just want you to be prepared. To reliably tune your car, the stock as-is car you buy should be in as prime condition as possible. Get a NAISOC account. Look at some other people's rides, problems, and experiences then decide.You might decide you're a Nissan/Honda/Toyota guy. You might have a local NAISOC group and if your a people person (unlike me, I hate my fellow subie owners, WRX culture. Just people, in general really) go to their car meets and people will tell you about their cars and give you ideas for yours. Some guys like turbo tuning them, some push for maximizing engine efficiency through timing. Some guys turn them into mellow daily drives, rally machines, or track stars. Hell, I've seen monster truck ones. The car can be whatever the hell you want. Tuning can be shotgunned and quick, but to do it right, it's a complex process that will take time. You're not only improving your car, your improving your mechanical knowledge as well.

what i liked about your build = safe power, new clutch what i would of done differently = save up 3-4k and then buy everything at once, in the end get a professional tune, access ports suck, every car is different and you might be fucking yourself and you dont even no it, leave cpu n shit like that to pro's and a well known tuner x.x Full exhaust, a real cold air intake, fuel injectors, fuel pump, and tune with e85 probably 300 whp for 2k instead of 315 CHP for 3-4k hopefully he switched out the tune to a pro tune im scared for him if he gets ring land failure and i dont even own the car x.x nice setup tho :)

You should not run any ots map to be honest. Get e tuned by torqued performance, or get a pro tune from your local tuner. Ots maps are terrible.

+thewingman1388 that's what I been thinking... just didn't wanna get tuned then buy more parts like I'm going to do and have to retune
@thewingman13889 жыл бұрын
+Ant DaG I hear you, but that's just the nature of the beast. If you go the e tune route (I'm e tuned torqued performance stage 2 and I love it) you can buy the stage 1 and 2 combo so you can tune as you go. But if you're dead set on not getting professionally tuned for your parts, and just running OTS, I'd suggest you be easy on your car, and I'd run a lot of data logs to ensure things are playing nice
@thewingman13889 жыл бұрын
+Ant DaG torqued performance stage 2 e tune is like $150 and you get unlimited revisions (obviously not for new parts, but if the weather changes and your tune needs to be adjusted, he'll do it as much as necessary) torquedperformance.com

Well the guy does nonsense things like dump the clutch while rolling and lugging the motor at low rpms...You really should't be dumping the clutch at all in a subaru, they hook up to quickly and damage the drivetrain....a 6mt can handle it better than the 5mt, it is a decent strength-wise but people are stupid and don't realize that an AWD trans should'nt be beat on like a ff or fr can be....they lose traction to take out some of the abuse, awd just takes it all and will break
