How to make your VIOLIN PEGS MOVE when they're stuck?

Fix your slipping violin pegs or make them run smoothly when they're stuck with my tips.
First I'll explain how to fix a peg that is stuck. When you got it loose again, perhaps it starts slipping and you can't tune. By winding the strings in a proper way and applying peg soap or chalk, your violin will be easy to tune and stay in tune.

Last weeks I experienced the extreme changes in temperature (from -15 to 15 degrees in a couple of days) and humidity have an influence on the tuning and the pegs to. It still does not feel comfortable to tune by the pegs. I use a tuner but I am going up and down all the time and sometimes it hurts my fingers to move the pegs. I have soap so I will give it a new try.

I've been tempted. They say it adds weight and changes tone. Anyway I finally found the difference between peg drops and the wax crayon type thing. Also proper string winding as well as pushing it in while tuning. Peg drops expand the peg and make it stick. The wax stick (soap) makes it lubricated yet hold its position. Zlata WHERE was this video hiding lol. Thank you. Ok back to finger vibrato. Ugh my finger joints are still practically hopeless

These are great ideas that I mostly forgot. I took up the violin on a whim on an auction site when I was about 55 years old. After a massive factory layoff, I lost interest off and on and didn't play more than a half an hour at any time the moment crossed my mind. A few days ago I started to tune my primary violin starting with "G" and found that I could not budge it al all. Maybe I should NOT have mostly ignored it since 2009. I am hoping this effort and instruction, will get me started again. Thankyou Zlata!

Impatient as I sometimes am, I took the time to order new violin care supplies. In the meantime, I lined a pair of slip-joint pliers with layers of thick tape and loosened each peg slowly where I could tune all the strings. Tuned up I am, but some of the jaw teeth nicked a couple tuning pegs so they are merely scarred. With a luthier only 20 some miles away I can get that fixed or make good use of my granddaughter's nail polish to fill the scratches. Zlata's way would have been a better choice!

I am getting my pegs chalked . My pegs have to be pushed in really hard , if not they slip. Impossible to tune under chin .

Big disclaimer that untrained people should not try this at home as this can break your peg, but in the violin shop we wrapped the peg in cloth and carefully got it to move with pliers.

humidity had my pegs stuck and i was terrified of breaking them. Your trick of the pliers with rag was a super quick and easy fix. Barely any force, no damage thank you!

We bought a violin, so I can practice and learn, on the night market for only $200. I'm a first timer so I have no idea, I tried to tune but the pegs we're sooooo hard. I was scared that I'd break sometime so now here I am😆

My violin went untuned so I tried to call my family for help but the Alexa didn't care and then on top of that my phone stopped working and then I had to try to do it on my own and I remember what my teacher taught me and I was able to tune it 👏👏👏👏

Maybe go to a violin maker. Or try with pliers, but you could break them.
