I installed this valve around a year ago, and love it! It is nice to have that huge tank gone, freed up quite a bit of space. Another benefit is almost instant hot water along with solid nonstop water pressure. I see all of the negative comments here, I was skeptical too, but now glad I purchased, everyone in the house is impressed.

@@cyclestopvalves8380 I am still amazed at this silly valve of yours. I honestly think of it every time I get into the shower or turn on the kitchen sink, or flush the toilet when someone is in the shower, there is zero pressure loss. I grew up with well water and pumps, and never has a well system performed like what I am experiencing since installing this valve. The old pumps, shallow wells, etc... Loved the water, we have always been blessed with incredible well water, but the delivery was sub par to say the least. And I am not being paid to say this, I thought this was a "Seen on TV" deal when I first stumbled upon it. But, after a little research, and watching all of your videos, it all made sense to me. This has to be the best plumbing purchase I have ever made, hands down.

I know it's hard for people to understand how this valve works, but it DOES work. I installed one, their cheapest model ($75 I think?) on my 3/4 hp well pump because it was cycling on and off for several hours when the lawn irrigation system ran. THAT is where a Cycle Stop valve really shines: keeping the pump running and the pressure steady for long stretches. The company website is very well assembled, and you can learn all about these valves there, if you have the time for some serious reading! Cheers from Canada.

We burned up an oversized 1.5 hp well pump at our house 7 or 8 years ago when running irrigation. Effectively the sprinkler zones were undersized and the tank would fill, stop the motor, draw down, and cycle back on over and over all summer. The pump was newly installed in 2008 and lasted only to 2013. We installed a 1hp since we couldnt resize all the sprinkler zones and it has been a champ not cycling. But i still like the idea of this CSV with other applications in the house with 3 bathrooms and tons of use. Cant wait to install it.

@@bigtxbullion Why didn't you adjust the sprinkler heads to allow a greater water flow to control the pump cycling and shorten your sprinkling time?

Thanks Steve. As the inventor of the Cycle Stop Valve I really enjoyed the comments. As of 2019 we have been making and selling CSV's for 27 years now. It is a simple valve with a complicated explanation. There really are no drawbacks or negatives to the CSV. Just the opposite in fact. The CSV is a disruptive product because it makes pumps last longer and use smaller pressure tanks. I am still amazed at all the negative responses and incorrect assumptions about how the CSV works. I know people don't like to be corrected about something they thought they understood. But wow some of these people get really personal with the attacks. They should realize how foolish they sound to people who really understand pumps and know CSV's are good for pumps. Some people just keep repeating their stupid comments like repeating it enough will make them correct. LOL! Talk to your motor manufacturers about the 1 gpm by-pass port which water flows through once there is no longer a demand source. Yes even though the amperage is lower at this point, the minimum flow requirement for motor cooling is not met. Even the vfd application which provides for lower amperage is not acceptable by manufacturers required cooling. Check the AIM Franklin Electric manual for reference. While this valve performs as described, it is not a viable statement to say it saves on motor life. Starts and stops kill motors, which the valve addresses, but cooling is paramount!

@@MF-hd1tq Read the AIM manual on hot water applications. If unloading the motor makes it safe to pump hot water, it doesn't take much cool water to prevent heating the motor. Not so with VFDs though as they create a smaller motor instead of unloading a large motor and still need full cooling flow.

Great video. I have a jet pump at the cottage and a small 6 gal pressure tank. Can the valve be installed between the two rather than connecting the valve on top of the tank. Or should I just connect the valve on the output line of my tank.

The CSV needs to be installed on the outlet of the pump, prior to any tees, tank, or hydrants.

Personally I wouldn't want my submersible Pump running all the time. I've pulled it twice due to bad pump wires. After getting good stranded Pump FlatWire, it has lasted 20+ years. I have WellMate 31 gallon Fiberglass Tank and going to replace with a WellMate 47 gallon. Well is 135 ft. down

With a CSV the pump only runs when you are using water. It shuts off like normal when you close all the taps. The reason you had problems with the wire is caused by slapping around when the pump starts. Chaffing the wire is just one of many problems the CSV solves.

This is a simple pressure regulator. Most homes with wells have them. The best thing to have is a Constant Pressure Regulator that only gives the pump enough voltage to hold a desired pressure when in use.

Yeah, NO! The CSV is a Constant Pressure Regulator that has been replacing those expensive and problematic variable frequency drives for over 30 years so far. Most homes need a CSV, but no so many have them. That is because the pump companies don't want your pump to last forever the way the CSV would do.

The idea of the CSV is that it can make a pump that is large enough for several houses work just fine when only one shower in one house is being used.

Unfortunately we just had to replace our 86gal pressure tank. However, would it still be an advantage to use this valve? Also would it work with a geothermal furnace running off our well? Would that make any difference? I'm attempting to find ways to lower the costs of operating the geo. I believe the well pump is the majority of the operating cost. We have a 3/4hp submersible pump about 150 ft deep.

Although with a CSV a small 4.5 gallon size tank is all that is needed, it will still work fine with an 86 gallon tank, which only holds 20 gallons of water anyway. Some people who don't know how it works would think the CSV would take too long to fill that size tank, being that it fills the tank at only 1 GPM. But setting the CSV at 58 PSI when using a 40/60 switch on a 86 gallon size tank will still only take a couple minutes to fill the tank. Plus, the CSV keeps the pump running as long as water is being used, so the tank only fills when you stop using water anyway. The fact that the CSV keeps the pump running as long as water is being used is why it works so great with a heat pump. Heat pumps run for long periods of time, which causes the pump to cycle on and off a lot, even with a big pressure tank. The CSV will eliminate all cycling while the heat pump or anything else is being used. The CSV may not reduce the electric bill, but will make the pump and tank last several times longer, which is a big savings in itself. Even though the pump maybe cycling itself to death, it is still working about as efficiently as is possible. Over the years I have heard a lot of people say it doesn't matter how much energy a heat pump is saving if they have to replace the well pump often from all the cycling. There are ways to save energy with a heat pump. But starting with the smallest pump possible and working at the lowest pressure possible is about the only way to save energy. One trick I use is to utilize the discharge from the heat pump to supply the house. This causes the water temp in the house to be a little higher in summer and lower in winter, but it is barely noticeable. This utilizes the same water twice, and makes it where the pump can be even smaller. Using a brand or kind of pump similar to a Grundfos will also help with efficiency as that brand of pump will drop in amps when restricted with the CSV much more than some other brands. As Jerry was saying,about a clogged pressure sw, I have experienced this pump cycling,and cleaned a clogged 1/4" tube feeding the ps.,but believe me your better off replacing the ps since the internal are not reachable.

@@tracykey9227 NO it will not. The CSV fills the tank at 1 GPM. Even a 4.5 gallon size tank that only holds 1 gallon of water will make a 1 minute mechanical timer to keep the pump running for a minute. If within that minute you open the faucet again the pump never stopped running. You could also flush a toilet a thousand times in a row and the CSV would only let the pump cycle once. If you wait 2 minutes between water uses then the pump will cycle again. But the 1 minute of run time makes sure you are finished using water before the pump shuts off.

Sorry for the delay. Yes the CSV will work with any size tank, you just don't need a very big one if you have to purchase another.

No, do not use a cycle stop valve on a large tank. you will destroy your pump with the long tank refill cycle at those low flows.

@@drob5664 Sorry D Rob, but a pump like that can run 24/7/365 at 1 GPM and never fail. Pumps are made to run continuously, it is the cycling on and off that destroys them. I have a pump on a stock tank that hasn't shut off in over 18 years so far. Expect at least another 18 years at least running that way. However, it is a moot point as you can set a CSV to get 2 minutes of run time with any size tank. Set the CSV at 58 PSI when using a 40/60 switch and even an 80 gallon tank will fill in 2 minutes.

@@jeromebrown8903 You were talked out of the most useful product for a well pump by someone who has no idea what he is talking about. It doesn't tank too long to fill large pressure tanks with a CSV, they just need to be set to make that happen. Plus, even if it took years to fill the pressure tank at 1 GPM rate, it would never hurt the pump.

On top of this amazing solution, i feel like there should be an installed secondary filter at the bottom of the well that gaps the submersible well pump from the rock bottom of the well. would help keep the lifespan a little longer and not leave all the filtering duties to the well pump entirely. The well pump could also be turned to a lower psi flow to fill a larger tank and then use an auxiliary above-ground pump to increase the psi for on demand. Maybe you will get drops in pressure if you overuse your from the tank but replacing an above ground pump vs. the well pump sounds like a better time to me. Maybe an engineer or experienced well installer can chime in to whether this idea is ignorant or not

Most wells are designed to be a filter all on their own. With slots in casing as small as 20 or even 10 thousands of an inch, and gravel packed with basically media sand, or even filter screens in the casing, nothing should be able to get into the casing to start with. Wells are no longer just a deep post hole. Tow pump systems with a storage tank and booster pump are common where there is a low producing well. But with good producing wells there is no reason to install and maintain twice as many pumps and equipment.

5:00 That is the same as any standard system except it limits the pressure to 50 PSI in the house even though the pressure in the tank continues to raise to 60 PSI.

Not exactly. The CSV keeps the house pressure and the tank pressure at 50 PSI until you turn off all the faucets, then it fills the tank to 60 and shuts the pump off.

Thanks for the video. I'm wondering how the cycle stop valve works beyond what you were showing? The video seems like it was cut short in the explanation of how the cycle stop valve works better than a pressure switch set up?. In the example used in your video , the flowing faucet was on and the pressure was set to 50 psi in the cycle valve; If the faucet were shut off , the pressure in the house system would return to 80 psi? stop the pump at the 50? Keep the pump on very slow trying to maintain water pressure below 80 psi? Its not clear how this is advantageous when used with a pressure switch. Thanks

To keep it simple, the pressure tank is essentially eliminated. So the pump kicks on and stays on anytime demand is > 1 gpm. The traditional system fills a pressure tank until the pressure reaches upper limit (50 psi) then the pump shuts off. Turn a faucet on and pressure drops until the tank reaches 30 psi and the pump kicks back on until it reaches 50 psi then shuts off again. If the faucet stays open the pressure keeps raising and dropping causing the pump to cycle on and off. The constant pressure valve turns on when it senses a small pressure drop (5 psi) and maintains constant pressure by keeping the pump running continuously until the faucet is shut off. This saves on/off cycles of the pump extending the life of it. Also eliminates a large pressure tank that takes up space, keeps constant pressure when using a shower for example. No surging of pressure dropping and raising all the time during your shower.

What if your well only produces 6gpm and you run the washing machine while showering and someone is washing dishes ?Will this run the pump dry ?

Not as long as you are using less than 6 GPM. We also make the Cycle Sensor to protect pumps like yours from running dry.

My pump screen became plugged years ago and my pump ran 24/7. My electric bill doubled! How is running the pump 24/7 a good thing?

The CSV does not cause the pump to run 24/7. The pump only runs when you are using water. This is much better for the pump than cycling on and off continually while you use water.

@@justray510 There is a small tank, a few gallons if that, mounts directly to the valve. It keeps the pressure in my system at a steady 55psi. The pump only runs when you turn the water on and allow say a few gallons to pass. Flushing a toilet will not turn on the pump, the small pressure tank easily takes care of that. You can get a larger tank, but it kind of defeats the purpose if you want to be rid of a large pressure tank. I have had no issues since installing, and it is nice to have almost instantaneous hot water. Another benefit I hear few folks mention.

What if someone is using there kitchen faucet alot on and off in a home and multiple people live in the house. Everyone goes and uses the faucet . This would in turn cause its own short cycling issue and pump on and off more. I’d say it’s only beneficial for irrigation where you have a time that uses water for like an hour straight. Or other scenarios I can’t think of at the moment. Correct me if I’m wrong

OK, I will correct you. If only 1-2 people live in the house they can't use water intermittently enough to cause a problem. If multiple people live in the house, the mechanical timer of using the CSV to fill the the tank at 1 GPM, means a tank that holds 1 gallons will make the pump run for another minute after the last tap was turned off. During that minute if anyone in the house uses water, the pump just stays on to supply it, and then starts the 1 minute timer again. Multiple people in the house means the pump will stay on of an hour or so until everyone is finished and out the door to work or school. Same thing happens in the evening when people are getting ready for bed. Cycle Stop Valve and small tank will cycle the same number of times as a big tank without a CSV. But without the CSV you don't get all the benefits of soft stop, no cycling, and strong constant pressure in the house.

Lots of confused folks below. First, motor draw in amperes DOES fall as you throttle the pump output. Fact. It doesn't matter if YOU believe it or not. If you have a clamp-on ammeter you can see this with any pump as it pumps up the pressure tank. When is current draw the lowest? You guessed it: at zero flow. Yes, you can install a bigger pressure tank to reduce cycling of the pump, or a pair, or an entire bank of pressure tanks, but why? You're putting out big bucks and taking up a lot of floor space. To answer one commenter below, yes, you do need a small pressure tank with a Cycle Stop valve. My old 81 gallon tank is about to be replaced with a wall-mounted 5 gallon tank. The floor space I save will be taken up by a second Filox iron filter. When my irrigation system finally shuts off after several hours of continuous running at 60psi, the CSV brings the tank pressure up to 65psi and the pump stops. Steve Maxwell (no relation) is mistaken about one little thing: several pressures are available. The base model, at US$63, can be ordered with a factory set 40, 50 or 60psi setting. Yes, as wu ming mentions below, you can go with a variable speed pump. I was going to go this route but a Grundfos SQE with control box cost C$3400 !!! That's just plain crazy. The pump does appear to be reliable but the control box is notoriously unreliable and costs C$1100 to replace every 3-4 years. That's a non-starter for me. Not acceptable, Grundfos. Restricting a pump's flow does NOT cause "cavitation and vibration reducing the pump's life", gpgt1. You're mistaking this with reduced flow via restricted INTAKE, an entirely different animal. A restricted intake causes cavitation problems and sure does affect pump life. There IS a minimum flow needed past the motor for cooling purposes but CSV's are engineered to meet Franklin Electric and Grundfos motor requirements All you naysayers out there: read up on CSV's at the company website, cyclestopvalves.com Be prepared to spend some time on this as the website is crammed full of reading material. Here's my final comment: irrigation systems are the biggest killer of well pumps, in my 30 years' experience. But frequent cycling for any reason is going to reduce pump life. You can see I was sold on Cycle Stop valves a long time ago and never set up a well system without one.

Clip is on any jet pump or submersible pump and the current draw goes down as you mechanically throttle back the flow. I continue to be happy with the Cycle Stop I installed. Paul Maxwell To be fair you need to look at the energy usage per gallon of water produced. Pumps have a “sweet spot”, a range with maximum efficiency. When applying back pressure the pump will become inefficient and waste a lot of electricity.

@@paftaf I agree! But you should first look at the energy usage per gallon when using a VFD. The same thing applies. Even though the VFD reduces the amps needed to spin the pump and motor it increases the energy cost per gallon produced. People who sell VFD's would rather you not know that fact, and use the myth that VFD's save energy to con unsuspecting people into needlessly spending a lot of money on VFD's when an inexpensive and simple CSV will do the same thing.

Cycle Stop Valves Stay focused, do not distract from the topic. Tell the truth about your product, don’t lie. Be transparent and honest. CSV restricts the output flow, simulating a higher head, shifting to the left side of the curve, outside of the manufacturers range of operation. That voids the warranty. If your pump breaks the manufacturer will cancel the warranty because you misused the pump.

In over a quarter of a century I have fooled hundreds of thousands of people and even the US patent office. I tricked the US patent engineers and attorneys and got several patents. I tricked hundreds of thousands of people into thinking CSV's really work. It is just the Placebo effect. I put people in a trance and make them believe their shower water pressure is stronger, their pumps are lasting longer, and using smaller pressure tanks is OK. I fooled many of these people into thinking the CSV is the reason their pump has lasted many years more than the one before. I secretly go and personally repair everyone's pumps in the middle of the night just to keep up the ruse. I spend millions replacing all those pumps so no one finds out they didn't last very long. I staged the reviews, pictures, and stories from thousands of happy customers. So you caught me. You are so much smarter than everyone else. I have had technical discussions with hundreds of engineers from every major pump company in America and none of them saw through my facade. I was able to fool everyone but you. I bow to the great Redwood Madrone and everyone should do as he says. He is by far the most brilliant person in the world and everyone should know it. (Big eye roll if you couldn't tell) LOL!

Sure you can use the CSV with as large a pressure tank as you want to waste your money on. But if you want some reserve, get a storage tank instead, as pressure tanks are not a reliable source of reserve.

The only advantage I can think of is it's easier and less expensive to replace a small tank that fails compared with a large one. In 12 years, we have had 3 Sta-Rites (fiber w/bladder) fail. Two of them have been 119gal - one was waterlogged which was a real pain to get out of the house without drilling it, the current one with a replaceable bladder has a cracked polar boss cap (ridiculous - should never happen). The big tanks are great because even with five people in the household, we usually only cycle our pump 2-3 times/day, even running 50-70 pressure. So that is very good, and IMO, better than using a CSV with a small tank. But they're expensive and they just don't last which blows...

Hi there! Yes, the advantage would be longer pump life, though not as much longer as with a smaller tank. The valve essentially reduces the number of ON/OFF cycles for a given volume of water pumped. You also get a more consistent water pressure at the tap. Thanks for watching! Steve

I believe Cycle Stop Valves have there demand, but they are not right for every situation. I have used many in my installs, but they do put an excessive amount of back pressure on the pump and piping going back toward the well. The creator of this valve has "proven" that excessive back pressure will not damage the pump and the amperage does indeed get reduced during this time, but 125+psi back pressure is not practical and the less amperage is not going to save you a noticeable amount of money...price of CSV and small tank = price of larger tank Again, they definitely have a purpose but are not necessary if your system is not broke.

125 PSI back pressure is practical. The back pressure is what makes the pump draw lower amps and run cooler. Back pressure is also how the CSV stops the destructive cycling on/off. Besides, any homeowner deserves strong constant pressure in the house.

The CSV still works with a pressure tank. It will work with any size tank, but a very small one is really all that is needed.

No, the CSV would just think someone was still using water and keep the pump running. However, that is a good thing as leaking toilets are responsible for cycling a lot of pumps to death.

+JustinTrojan Hi Justin. The pump doesn't run all the time, just when water is being demanded (a tap open somewhere and running). As soon as the water demand shuts off, the pump keeps running until maximum pressure is reached and the pressure switch shuts the pump off. I hope this helps and thanks for watching. @@eco_guardian Even if the pump did run all the time it would not burn out. Pumps are made to run 27/7/365. I have one on s stock water system that hasn't turned off in over 18 years. Running is good for a pump. Cycling on and off is what kills them.

So if the pump is running the whole time the tap is on, where is the extra water going that the pump is pumping? The pump supplies much more than 1gpm that the tap uses right? What level of pressure is applied to the pump and the plumbing between the pump and stop valve?

+Martin Vandepas Hi Martin. That's a great question. The output of the pump is throttled by back pressure created by the valve. In other words, the pump only puts out 1 rpm (or whatever is required). There is no extra water to go anywhere. This sounds like it would be hard on the pump, but not if you're dealing with a submersible or jet pump. Back pressure actually causes the motor to draw less current, run cooler and last longer. You can see this effect by putting an ammeter on the pump as the valve is throttling it. The back pressure varies as needed to ensure a 50 psi output regardless of the water flow demanded. Does this help? Take care, Steve

This is a misleading title. This will not make your pump last longer. Just found this video and love the sales pitch and the time put into the drawings. If you want constant pressure to home a well with variable speed drive is a very efficient way to achieve this.

Sorry Alex but you have a lot of catching up to do. Variable Speed Pumps are not efficient. Variable speed pumps are a scam to separate you from as much of your money as possible. The CSV was deigned to replace troublesome and expensive VFD's and we have replaced hundreds of thousands of VFD's with CSV's in the last 28 years.

Obviously you have a product that you claim is more efficient than variable frequency drives and to sell this component you need to make people believe that it is better. I appreciate your videos and beliefs of your product. But the title of this video is not true. This product introduces a different problem of increasing static pressure on pump. Yes amp draw is reduced, I agree, but with any work producing motor setup, including blower assemblies, when you choke down its work the amp draw will go down. Increased static pressure on any system will reduce the work needed to be done but at the cost of the efficiency the motor. A well pump, however deep it may be, already has pressure to overcome just to get water to home before it gets there. We can agree that a pump will work at its highest efficiency when zero static pressure is applied. All that I was saying is that the title would be great if it stated “how to maintain constant pressure without variable speed pump drives”. Anyway I appreciate your views of products that you create.

@@alexstone4795 Sorry again Alex, but your 30 years behind. A CSV can never deadhead a pump. It works so well the major pump companies blacklisted the Cycle Stop Valve in the early 90's as a disruptive product. They said "The CSV makes pumps last longer and use smaller pressure tanks, so anyone who mentions a CSV will be fired immediately". You are right that the CSV replaces complicated, expensive, short lived, and inefficient VFD's, and we have been doing so for almost 30 years so far. The title is very true. CSV's make pumps last so long pump manufacturers will do or say anything to keep you from trying one. And if you haven't tried a CSV, you don't know how well they work.

I am sorry that you have to revert to insults and flaunting your supposed experience to inform people of your product. I have found that the best way to understand a product is to use it. I too was one who was so stuck in my ways but had to be humbled and had to train myself to look at a problem and see more than one solution.

yeh but if your pump is running all the time what happens to your electric bill .I have a 1 hp pump and it is 400 feet down and i can see my electric meter spin faster when my comes on and see how much it costs me when it runs through my smart house.NOt fun to get a high electric bill

With a CSV the pump only runs when you are using water. Plus when using small amounts of water the CSV makes the pump draw lower amps, so it doesn't increase but rather decreases the electric bill.

So if the pump stays on, wouldn’t your electric bill be crazy high? Also, what if you don’t use water for a week on vacation? Does the pressure hit 60 psi and switch off? If it switches off every time we stop using water, then how is that not hurting the pump the same as with no csv? So confused. 🤔

The pump only runs while you are using water. It actually uses less energy than if it were cycling on and off while you use water, as it takes 6-9 times the running power every time the pump starts. Other than that the CSV system is no different than a regular pressure tank with a 40/60 switch. When the pump shuts off at 60, it will stay off for the whole time you are on vacation, as it will only come back on when you use water. The pump doesn't shut off as soon as you stop using water. It stays on for a minute or so to fill the pressure tank after you stop using water. That is a 1 minute timer that doesn't let the pump cycle if you open up another tap during that time. Timing the off to make sure you are finished with water before stopping the pump and making the pump run the entire time you are using water is how the CSV stops cycling and makes the pump last longer.

Didn't explain that while water is being used at the house that the expansion tank is not being filled. When water use is done the tank fills slowly and allows the pump to run. As long as it is not trying to fill a larger tank then it will run long enough but not too long to waste energy!

It only runs while you are using water. And the amps are reduced when the flow is restricted. That is just how pumps work. So, the pump runs longer, but at reduced amps, and it does not increase the electric bill, just the life of the pump system.

man, this back pressure should go somewhere, so it goes back to pipes in the well, and you will burst them with 200psi or more pressure, THis thing will save you pennies compare to the fixing of pipes in the well.

If your pump builds 200 PSI back pressure it is way oversized. 100--150 PSI is more common. But well pipe is designed to handle high pressure, as just being at the bottom of a 400' deep well is well over 200 PSI. Back pressure is good for pumps as it makes the amps drop and the motor run cooler. It is not hard to figure how much back pressure each pump can build. If your pump builds more back pressure than the pipe or CSV can handle, you just won't get all the benefits and strong constant pressure control of a CSV.

The pump will NOT draw "less amperage" if the valve is applying back pressure. Power is Flow Rate x Pressure. If you increase back pressure and keep the flow rate constant....... that increases power draw.

Not true! Pumps are counter intuitive. Pumping full volume causes the pump to draw full amps and run the hottest. When restricted with a valve the amps drop and the motor runs cooler. I know it sounds crazy but that is how pumps work and is why so many people are confused about this. Any pump is still more efficient at max flow, but the amps do drop when the flow is restricted.

Cycle Stop Valves Stay focused, do not distract from the topic. Tell the truth about your product, don’t lie. Be transparent and honest. CSV restricts the output flow, simulating a higher head, shifting towards the left side of the curve, outside of the manufacturers range of operation. That voids the warranty. If your pump breaks the manufacturer will cancel the warranty because you misused the pump.

Cycle Stop Valves Please stop lying. If you have a 20gom pump sized correctly, it takes 2 minutes to produce 40 gallon. With your product, if the flow is 2 gpm the pump will run for 20 minutes, at a degraded efficiency, and overall you will use 8-10 times more electricity to produce the same 40 gallons, and you will waste much more energy into heat.

I see so many of these videos promoting this valve, but they never ever talk about the down side. For some users the system will actually cycle on and off much more often than without the valve. If you wash your hands often, for example, the pump will go on every single time you wash your hands. The valve is effective for when you are using the water for a long continuous period of time, like watering a lawn. The valve is bad if you are often turning the water on and off because the pump will go on every time you turn on the water. Not so for standard system.

The pump will only come on when the low cut in pressure setting is met. If you wash your hands before this happens the pump wont start up. The way around that problem is a larger capacity pressure tank. Large tank and this valve would be the best of both worlds.

@@nordhaven Sorry, but that makes no sense at all. If the pump only comes on when the cut in pressure is met, then how is it a constant pressure system? You can't have it both ways. If its really a constant pressure system the pump has to come on every time the water comes on. What you are saying is logically impossible. If the pump does not come on until the low pressure cut off is met, this implies that originally the tank is at a higher pressure, and the pressure will go down until the cut in pressure. Thus NOT constant pressure!

Larry Elterman As always in America, you can spot the snake oil when it’s “too good to be true”. They market this device as a way to reduce tank size, but fail to explain the limitations. You’re right, small tank size has drawbacks. As for the constant pressure claim, it’s a marketing thing. In a 40/60 system, the water will go down to 40, the pump turn on. The reducer applies back pressure to reduce flow, but then trickles water so eventually the tank will reach 60 and the pump stops. The energy usage per pumped gallon increases because the efficiency drops. And a lot of energy is wasted in the back pressure through friction. Their claim of reduced amperage is misleading, but people are gullible.

@@LarryElterman You are right the pressure is not constant until the tank is empty and the pump is started. So, the larger the tank you have the longer it takes to see the constant pressure. A 4.5 gallon pressure tank only holds 1 gallon of water. This gallon is gone before you get the shower temp adjusted, so nearly all water used is at constant pressure. The 1 gallon in the tank will fill the ice maker or let you wash your hands without the pump starting. But when using more than 1 gallon of water the pump starts and the CSV holds the pressure strong and constant until you close the taps. After closing the taps it will take 30 seconds to a minute for the CSV to refill the tank and shut off the pump. The tank is basically a mechanical timer that allows you a minute or so to start using water elsewhere without the pump cycling. If you haven't used anymore water within a minute or so we assume you are finished using water and the pump will go off. A larger tank with the CSV would allow a few flushes and things before the pump starts, but would mean the first few minutes of a shower will be at decreasing pressure until the tank is empty and the pump starts. Even large 80 gallon size tanks only hold 20 gallons of water. So, even the largest tanks will not let you take a shower without starting the pump. Your water comes from the pump, not the tank. The tank is only to reduce the number of on/off cycles, and when you have a CSV to do that for you a large tank is not needed.

I have had technical discussions with hundreds of engineers from every major pump company in America and none of them saw through my facade. I was able to fool everyone but you. A 5000 liter pressure tank only holds 1200 liters of water. The tank must be 75% air to work properly. Your water doesn't come from the pressure tank, it comes from the well and pump. Besides the huge expense and space needed there are a lot of other problems with the old pressure tank method. The CSV solves them all.

Your pump is not going to be going on and off? Why not? Every time you flush a toilet, open a faucet for a second or two, use a hose to water a flower pot, the pump is not going to constantly be going on and off? Either the pump is going to go on every single time you use water or the pressure is going to come from the tank, in which case it will decrease. That is why everyone in the world with their own system uses a tank, so the pump will not be going on and off every time they need drink of water, and why this sounds very suspicious.

Good Morning bigpardner, No need to be suspicious. This thing works like a charm at my place. I'll explain again how it works . . . Normally (without the valve) you turn on your water and the tank pressure drops to the cut-in level. The pump comes on and keeps running until tank pressure rises enough to hit the cut-out level, then the pump switches off. With the cycle stop valve, the pump comes on when tank pressure hits the cut-in level just as normal, but the pump keeps running as long as you're using water. Tank pressure never rises above 50 psi, so the pump never switches off as long as you're using at least 1 gallon of water per minute. This is the key concept you need to have gotten from the video - the pump keeps running as long as you're using water. The valve does this by mechanically throttling the outflow from the pump. The bottom line is a constant pressure as long as you're using water and you get fewer ON/OFF cycles for the pump. Put an ammeter on the pump circuit and you'll find that the pump draws less current when being throttled, not more as some people often mistakenly assume. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching. @@todfelix5589 That can be caused by 3 things most commonly. 1. You have a leak. 2. you have a plugged up pressure switch or pressure switch nipple. 3. Your pressure tank has gone bad and is water logged.

With over a million pumps being controlled by Cycle Stop Valves as we speak, in 30 years no one has ever shown damage to a single pump. Just the opposite happens. Some of these pumps have lasted 30 years on a Cycle Stop Valve when they previously only lasted 2-5 years. This proves Cycle Stop Valves make pumps last several times longer than normal. I have offered to replace or pay for any pump damaged by a Cycle Stop Valve for 30 years and no one has been able to take me up on it, because not a single pump has failed because of a CSV. Either show me a pump that was damaged by a CSV or stop saying it will happen, because it never will. People push VFD's because they cost a lot and don't last very long. Over 30 years time you will have spent $7000.00 more on a VFD system than a CSV system for a normal house pump, which is exactly why people who sell pumps try so hard to talk you out of a CSV. A CSV will not, cannot, damage a pump in any way, and I guarantee it. See if you can get a guarantee like that with a VFD. Lol!

Your cycle stop valve that I’ve had in place for YEARS caused my pump to fail. Yeah, I know the pump fell off the damn pipe and sucked electrical tape into it, thus ruining the pump, but it was your damn cycle stop valve that ruined it! Totally kidding of course. Love my cycle stop valve.

@@kevingray8616 Sorry for your problem. It was probably the tape that came loose first, clogged the pump, and got it hot enough to melt the pipe. Gotta use good tape or Pipe Wrap. Never leave the ends of the tape on anything other than more tape. The end of the tape will come lose if it is stuck to the pipe or anything but more tape.

Well, it will work ONLY with centrifugal pumps, but it will DESTROY any submersive pump which works on spindle principle (mostly used in wells) if there will be no fuse valve (typ. 6bar)... In both cases you push the pump to work on it's limits (to produce highest preasure it can) continuously. This system is just "cheating" the preasure switch by preasure reduction valve placed between pump and switch with tiny bypass (you can buy it much cheaper). I'd not expect it "last longer" at all, the pump simply last shorter. Why? Most pumps are not desiged to run continuously (e.g. there is specified max time it can run continuously and max ammount of cycles per hour), therefore you will overload it after few minutes of continuous run at max preasure.

Reducing a pumps flow too less than 50% it's rated value will cause cavitation and vibration reducing the pumps life. Amp draw is only half the story and anyone working with motors should know that reduced draw means restriction. I can print a chart off the plc and tell you what pumps in my mill need service. Maybe the electricians you talk to wire houses for a living. I work with pumps in the mining industry.

As far back as the early 70's such controls existed. The Jacuzzi aqua Genie was one. Pump killers, due to cycle times being short,and high back pressure to cause slow demand flow. Not a fan....

@@Splungers Absolutely not true! The small difference in the CSV makes it better for the pump than the old Aquagenie or Hydroservants from years ago. But many of those pumps as well as the Aquagenie or Hydroservant are still working to this day. I am replacing a Hydroservant system that has been operating flawlessly for 53 years as of today. These kinds of valves make pumps last longer, not the other way around.

So this ONLY applies to submersible well pump controlled by one home system? In other words this does NOT apply directly to my situation? I am on a COMMUNITY well so MY setup does NOT control THAT pump...my system only controls what I think is called a "jet pump" that provides pressure that our community well supply does NOT provide ...without the jet pump water only trickles from taps. Does this apply to MY system? I am mystified by all the advice on youtube and from vendors etc ...why does it have to be so friggen difficult to spec the right equipment that will work best??

Hi Doug! Some version of the unit in the video works for any kind of non-piston-type water pump. So this means it works on submersibles and jet pumps. It sounds to me like you can use a device like this on your community system, but it would have to be sized for the total flow involved. The guy I got this device from at Cycle Stop is experienced in small systems and large ones, so it's worth a call to him. I hope this helps, Doug. Let me know. Steve

Then you don't know what you are looking at. Constant pressure from a CSV makes a big difference compared to the pump cycling on and off over and over and over.

Up to a point yes. But when you stop using water it turns into a flow control valve that fills the rest of the tank at 1 GPM rate.

Basically the same as if you had to tank, the tank with this system is point less the whole reason for a tank is so your pump won't come on every time there is a need for water, seems pretty dumb to me

MF, If you had any problem with a CSV it is because you are not as sharp as you think and did something really wrong. The CSV is such a perfect pump control that pump manufacturers blacklisted it as a disruptive product in 1993. That means the CSV makes pumps last longer, not the other way around. If you can't understand that this simple valve is much better than a VFD you certainly do not need to be installing pumps, much less something as complicated and troublesome as a VFD. If you have actual proof of a CSV damaging a pump in any way, I will replace the pump and pay your pull and set charge. In 30 years no one has ever taken me up on that offer because there has never been a single pump damaged in any way by a CSV. So, either show me a pump, any pump, damaged by a CSV or stop lying to people to sell your expensive and short lived VFDs.

Did I hear correctly the pump runs continuously. My pump is over 20 years old if it was a running since day one it wouldn't have made it 10 years. No thanks

Lol! The pump only runs continuously WHILE you are using water, compared to on/off, on/off, over and over. It says right on the side of every pump, made for "continuous duty". They like to run 24/7/365. It is the cycling and off that destroys them. I have one on a stock well that hasn't turned off since 1999. Kind of disproves your theory. :)

So if the pump stays on, wouldn’t your electric bill be crazy high? Also, what if you don’t use water for a week on vacation? Does the pressure hit 60 psi and switch off? If it switches off every time we stop using water, then how is that not hurting the pump the same as with no csv? So confused. 🤔

Biggest piece of CRAP I ever had the displeasure of selling. 30+ years in the pumping industry and like many others I too drank the cool aid. What a POS this product turned out to be. I chuckle each time I walk by their empty booth at the trade shows. And yes I am a pretty sharp guy and understand sizing, adjusting, and the physics of this valve. Never will sell or recommend it again. For those looking for solutions research a (stupid little company called Yaskawa) Pun intended.
