My experience with another channel of ours is, that it is better to transfer the video to your phone and upload it via the YT-shorts option "create shorts". The chances that your video gets "shelved" as a YT-shorts are better when using the YT-create shorts option than uploading it just from your PC. Hashtag in description is still a must, of course.

Hi Maliek; I watched this video and while it is helpful for someone who wants to convert a 16:9 video where you are willing to loose some of the material on the sides of the video it does not solve the issue that I have. I have taken a video looking straight down at a desk top, using a Canon M50 camera, with a ratio of 16:9. I would like to effectively say that the ratio should be 9:16, and I would like the entire video to rotate 90 (or 270) degrees so that the entire video is now at the 9:16 ratio. Thus I could upload it as a youtube short. I am using Power Director 365, so I believe that I have the most recent version as of December 2022. I would very much appreciate any suggestions you have for accomplishing this task. Thank you.

Hello cumudgeon66. Unless you are okay with the video being askew it is impossible to get the entire video in frame without having black bars at the top and bottom of the video. I show how this is done at 0:59 in the video. The entire video is in frame but you have black bars.

I did the same thing, but the problem is, if the video is not a higher quality and you zoom in for it to be a portrait video, the quality of the video just messes up. But thank you for the steps though, learned something new today 😁

Hi Maliek. I think Power Director 19 is the new upgrade I need but I am not sure. I am in urgent need of your help as I have videos to edit for my KZbin Channel but can't do them with good qualilty. I hope you are able to assist. I have PD13 (purchased in 2016) and I learned how to edit from your KZbin Channel. When I now edit on PD13 the videos are worse quality than on my Canon M50 camera files. I think it is well past time I upgraded/updated to a new PD. 1. Can you recommend a good PD to upgrade to? 2. Can I purchase it through you? I just do basic editing, nothing fancy. Just cutting, joining and crossfading clips and adjusting Audio Volume, all done on the Time Line. I then do a White Balance enhancement and slight adjustment on the Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness. Then I post to KZbin. Thank you for any help you can provide Maliek. Dave

I recommend PD 365 if you want the latest with all the updates. If you don't care about updates and want to own the program outright get PD 19 Ultimate. The link to purchase both options is in the video description. Keep in mind, a new version of PD usually comes out in September do it might be best to wait until PD 20 comes out.

Anytime you zoom in on any video the resolution decreases. If you shoot with anything under 4K it is pretty noticeable

The first thing I would try would be to record your footage using a 9:16 aspect ratio and place the webcam footage in the position you want. The second thing I would try would be to record your footage using a 16:9 aspect ratio and place the webcam footage in the center of the screen.

Great video but it really caused problems with PD. I updated 365 version now 20.0.2204.0 (64 bit). 16GB Ram, then tried your instructions. PD became unresponsive and even crashed once. Audio starting to play in front of clip. I presumed it was update causing problem. Just gone back to do a 16:9 and everything appears ok again.

I have made many shorts on my other channel using this method. Never had a single issue. If you would like help solving the issue you can run a DX Diag of your PC and post a question along with the DX Diag results on the PowerDirector forum.

I was going to join this as I thought it was going to be livestreamed, but then I saw in the description that you were going to show how to do 9:16 aspect ratio clips. Sorry, Maliek but the whole point of 16:9 widescreen is to give as much of a panoramic view as possible with modern video cameras. I believe 9:16 defeats that purpose.

When video cameras graduated from tape-based systems(VHS, VHS-C, Beta, Video-8/Hi-8 and Mini-DV), that graduation also involved going from the old analogue TV aspect ratio of 4:3 to the new 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio which gave us a panoramic view of the scenery, it was indeed a quantum leap forward in videography, but when I see people taking video using their mobile phone cameras, and holding them vertically(portrait) rather than horizontally(landscape), that panorama is lost. It's the reason I *DON'T* use my mobile phone's camera for video, and only grudgingly use it to read QR codes to get admission to shops or clubs because of this accused Covid-19 Delta strain. When I saw Cyberlink add the 9:16 aspect ratio option back around Version 13 or 14, I was not in favour of it as I believed then, and still believe it would encourage what was basically bad video practice. It's always best to get the wide angle, the *panorama* and take full advantage of what 16:9 aspect ratio offers!

@@neilforbes416 actually 9:16 is used by tiktok and KZbin shorts. You don't have to like it, but your opinion doesn't define good or bad video shooting practice. Just skip the videos that don't apply to you and watch what works for you. Best wishes in your video editing.
