Great video to prepare for hiring talent remotely. I just started my own Saas company but I want to hire great developers and most of those talented individuals prefer to work for a startup that offers remote positions.

This is awesome. We are a startup based in NY and have a remote team in Chile working with us. It is sometimes hard to track their work and productivity across time zone and distance. I use the Moodbit App to track how my team is feeling and communicate on the point when the productivity goes down.

Dan Martell hello Dan, great video as usual. Do u think u could make one about the evolution of marketplaces from 1.0 to 3.0? And some pros and cons of each and maybe some tips on how to get from 1.0 to 3.0. Thank u very much for such great advice.

hey, I like the new format. looks good. do you have any feedback on team collaboration with Slack and Trello with the playbook?
@danmartell

Keshia, thx. Not sure what you man re: "feedback on team collaboration with Slack and Trello with the playbook?" Each one serves a different purpose. Playbook = way to document how something should be done. ex: Publishing Marketing Trello = Project Management = managing new projects / tasks. Slack = Team Communication + Status updates. Personally, I don't use Slack... Trello is fine. Let me know if you have a specific quesiton? DM

Thank you Dan. I believe you answered the question fine. I apologize for being unclear. I heard about Slack but was uncertain how to use, for it looks just like Glip. As with the integrations, I am new to Trello also. But with your answer, I am more clear on what the function of each application is. I might revisit Podio. Ultimately, I want a platform that is easy to communicate with each other and visually see what we are working on. I would like us to do this staying in the app, as well as sync with the calendar. There was a lot of scrolling with Glip, that took away from me. But thank you. Appreciate it.

What are your thoughts on written daily standups versus video conferencing? What about start of day vs middle of day vs end of day? I've had people bring up that they don't think as clearly at the start of the day or in the spotlight. If the standup is live (i.e. not written), what do you do when someone's standup is "off" (e.g. yesterday we decided to do x instead of y)? On the one hand, if I say something during the standup, it could snowball and break the flow; on the other hand, if I wait until after the standup, then the rest of the team is out of sync... Thanks!

Gideon, I prefer to do live video standups and do them as early in the day as you can. If you do written, you can do it in a Slack Channel or Email thread. Standups do not replace project management or weekly team meetings (what I call the Weekly Sync). So if you're doing that, then you should be good. Priorities shouldn't change day to day, only week to week. DM

Hi Dan & fam, love startups that work remotely! I'm curious what's most frustrating about collaborating with a remote team. There are so many tools out there (Slack, Trello, ...), but are there any gaps? Wondering if there's any space for a SaaS startup here to make things easier. PS: Great video! 🌠

Finn, best to find a group of remote folks and connect directly. I know one of my coaching clients Liam @ TimeDoctor.com created runningremote.com/ and his community would be a perfect fit. DM

hello dan I have a question about team performance, our engineers are very unorganized, our working hours start at 9 and its flexible till 10:30 and we have daily stand up at 10:30 but they still come later than stand up, what should I do? should I punish them? is it good to have strict working hours in startup for example 40 hours per week or no? don't you think so much freedom will make the team less productive and lazy? could you please help me with this?

If someone on my team misses a meeting without letting us know, then you can definitely hold them accountable. If you want to get someones attention, deduct their pay... Obviously that's a big intense but short of firing them, when you ask them to show up - they shouldn't think they have the option to ignore that. DM

The right systems and processes are key without them it just doesn't work. So many people fail to go remote simply because they try and use the same systems and processes!

You don't need anyone else other than you :) As for what should you have, we'll it all depends on the stage youre at and what level of growth you're aiming for. It's like asking what kind of ingredients do I need for my restaurant... all depends on what kind of restaurant and the amount of locations, etc. Just start, that's the best advice I can give you. Sell something to anyone. DM

You alone have introduced me and my new remote blockchain company to the effectiveness of Scrum Meetings. The 2020's, AI, Business 4.0 and Robotics look so much brighter to us.
