Nice Video. I'm in Northern MD, and I'm transitioning my lawn from fescue to Zoysia. The Zoysia loves this weather and is growing and spreading and choking out weeds. With the zoysia growing so much I still need to mow, but only once a week. During this type of weather, I only put out soil amendments to help the grass push root growth (humic acid, and Simple Lawn solutions Green Booster). The next fertilizer installment will be around 4th of July holiday. I'm hoping this will help the grass survive the heat wave. It's looking better than my neighbors' yards so far. 🙂

Man this drought has been brutal this year on my lawn... this is some insane temps in my area +93° two weeks and 4 weeks no rain....99 this coming Monday...water bill bout to be through the roof..... it may be no coming back for some some areas 😢😂....

Yeah man, it's tough and it doesn't look like there is any relief coming soon. Good thing about cool season grass is the fall will come and a little seed will have it fixed like new.

Yeah, I may let my lawn grow. HOC is 3" but I also plan to do a complete renovation this Fall. The two areas were I did my renovations last Fall are still looking great. A few bare spots and weeds, but overall those areas good. I only water those areas and any plants/flower beds.

I'm glad your renovation areas are doing well after investing in those areas. You can address the bare spots with a fall overseed while you are doing your renovation.

@@ElevatedLawnscapesMD guy here also. What you think about something like Hydretain? I don’t car for letting my lawn going into dormancy. My lawn actually look decent however my backyard is 12.000 SqFt ALL SUN, fortunately I have a irrigation system. Been letting it grow out some, but have some dry spots.

I plan to continue to run my irrigation as I should be Hydretain “supposedly” allow me to cut back some on the watering. I may target the areas where my irrigation isn’t covering too well.

@everybodyeats2267 When it gets this hot and dry, there is not a product out there that is going to allow to cut back on the water. If you want it green you have to water. Then, the products can help keep some of the water in the soil from drying out so fast. As far as fungus, those types of products are not contributors to that.

Southern MD here. I'm letting my lawn decide on whether or not it prefers to just go into dormancy lol. i gave it all the water and nutrients to fight..so will be interesting to see how it handles this heat.

Sounds like a plan. As long as you gave it the tools it needs to survive. Even if it does struggle it will bounce back quicker once the rains return and we get some relief from the heat.

I have almost all of their TTTF Cultivars from the multiple years of overseeding and using different MVS blends. I have also mixed in some of the MVS 365SS KBG for this area.

Very timely. Thank you. We just finished our first week over 90s here in Cleveland and I've said goodbye to my front lawn until September. My city refuses to offer a summer water rate. It was over $600 to add a second meter 16 years ago, so I'm assuming that's closer to a grand now. Not worth the savings and I'm not paying thousands in water a year to keep having to mow my yard, so dormancy it is. I can barely keep up with the flower beds at this point.

Good to run into your channel. I'm here in East Riverdale, MD. I grow Zoysia here. I did cut my back yard yesterday at 3 inches. Front and side yards, probably will cut at 3 inches and throw some water on them. Looking kind of brown out there. Will be following you.

Always informative ✊🏾...sticking to my early morning watering routine - but wanted to get some thoughts around a quick "cool down" watering on the full-sun spots in the evening during these high temps?

A "cool down" can be done but the timing has to be right. You don't want to go into the night with the grass wet or damp because it increases the chances for disease. I prefer to get good deep waterings during the morning and allow a longer period of time for the leaf blades to be dry but have adequate soil moisture for the plant.

It's been about 2x a week. I may add an additional watering tomorrow because of the heat and seeing signs of drought stress today. I had to hit a couple localized hot spots today with the hose.

Great content! I’m leaving my lawn as is waiting for God to water it 😂. I’m located in suburbs of Chicago and let me tell you my village counts every drop of water used. Water bills are way too expensive here for water lawns. Take care.

I’m 1.5 hours west of Chicagoland! My town doesn’t get overly concerned about water usage, but I still don’t have time to water my lawn. I’ve simply let mine get overgrown (currently at 6+”). All my neighbors were out cutting their grass nice and short right as this heatwave started and theirs are all burned up and brown. Mine may look like a hayfield, but it’s the greenest spot in my neighborhood! 😂

From 2" to 6" that's a lot. Personally, I wouldn't let it get that tall because that means your lawn is growing just fine in the conditions.

Seriously, what are your thoughts \ experience with wetting agents \ soil moisturizers? 🤣🤣🤣 I hear you man, it's tough right now. I do think wetting agents are helpful but they are not a substitute for water. They are more of a aid to your current watering program. My approach to soil moisture is to get it moist and keep it moist throughout the season so I am not relying on wetting agents to save me.

Unfortunately, I'm penalized when I exceed 7k gallons / month which doesn't take much. Thinking about focusing on a section (just the back) and letting the rest go dormant. Right now, the lawn is on life support, but hopefully July will be better. Thanks again.

Not if your lawn is stressed and going into dormancy. If your lawn is still healthy and majority green, yes, continue with fungicide applications.
