are the manual trainers worth a try? I know they are no sub for real riding, tailbone landings and such are no walk in the park.

I hopped on a homemade one a few years back for fun. The concept is solid and I can see them being useful at the very early stages to help learn the basic motions. Nothing beats just going out and doing it, though. Balancing from a stand still and balancing while rolling feel quite a bit different. Plus, learning how to bail off the back of the bike is part of it which you won't get from a trainer. Might be worth a shot at first just don't rely on it. Just my opinion. - Mike

I think landing on your back end is one of the scariest things of a manual. If that is one of your fears I would recommend just going on grass and practicing bailing off your bike when you loop out.

@@danscompvideos For me at least i think it could be great. I live in Sweden, this summer we havnt had anything else then rain, so i had little time for practice. And soon winter will come (awell, not soon soon, but still). Then i wont be able to ride my bike next 6 months or so. A manual trainer could be cool to have in your livingroom to practice - just my 2 cents =)

very well explained, thank you very much! i started bmxing this year at the age of 46 mainly because my kids love to ride pump tracks and parks. It's never too late --- and it's great fun

After 4 years of MTB, I decided to try BMX to hone my riding skills. I have no problems doing bunny hops but currently I’m struggling with manuals. It’s pretty hard

That balance point is definitely a fine line, but you'll learn to control it better each day.

Try it on a very slight downhill and always make sure your not going slightly uphill at all. Gravity does it all when you're on a slight slope. From there, take it to flatland when you feel comfortable

Does the maunel depend on the bike size frame to or no? Each time I do, the bike comes from underneath my footing..
@danscompvideos
@danscompvideos 3 жыл бұрын
A longer frame will be more stable but harder to pull up. A shorter frame is easier to pull up, but the balance point is smaller. That being said, it may seem like a big deal right now but once you get it, it really doesn't matter too much.

@Mediocre00Rebel

I was gonna try balancing a "manual" on my pegs first to get comfortable. I dont think its a manual if standing on pegs but i could definitely feel more of a balance point and its a lot easier to bail off. I know its not the same, but to just get comfortable with doing these things. I just started picking up bmx at 28.

There called rocket manuals, Im only a month in myself and have been practicing both and thinking of them as different tricks personally. Definitely agree on the helping you to learn the balance point part.

I learned how to wheelie first so every time I try to manual and my front wheel is going down I pedal a little bit to keep it going and it messes me up any tips?
@danscompvideos
@danscompvideos 2 жыл бұрын
So did I. It's somewhat common and just a habit you'll have to break yourself from. It's all in the legs and arms when balancing a manual. You need to force yourself to NOT push down on the pedals. It will feel odd at first but eventually you won't think about it. - Mike

As someone who got into his 40s without really riding since he was a teenager, how much does upper body strength play into learning how to do manuals. I have "nightmares" at least once a month of me doing manuals or hang-fives when in reality I never learned them in my life. I think the only cure for these night terrors is to just get out there and learn. However, at my age, I don't have the same flexibility/durability/strength that I once used to.
@danscompvideos
@danscompvideos Жыл бұрын
Upper body strength does play a factor, but if you can pull the front wheel up at all you're good. Most of the balancing is in your legs while also keeping your body weight back. Hope that helps!

Only trick I want to be a master at. I got a bmx bike just to learn this and maybe one day I’ll go a little crazy and learn to bunny hop. Just basic street riding things to avoid obstacles and have fun. Nobody got paralyzed off a wheelie. I’m young im 23 but Im an addict I can’t stop abusing everything I touch. Instead of a bottle of booze and a bong I want to try a bmx. I rode bikes my whole life I learned a manual on a mountain bike and I was the best in my neighborhood hell I could do a bicycle on an atv. When I got a car tho that was my bike I gave up the basic simple bike and took up cars. I’m going full circle and back to bmx. Right now I have one coming in next week for my birthday and I tell myself im gonna perfect the wheelie and end it at that. I know damn well im gonna be in my front yard tryna crack a 360 flair nah im kidding but im gonna be outside trying to nail a 360 crashing into the grass everytime. Im outside tho im not hitting my bottle im trying to learn a trick

I used to drink a lot. It's nasty, unless you like feeling dehydrated, dizzy, depressed all the while feeling like You've lost control of your motor skills. I hope you can move forward in life and find something that makes you feel better so you don't want to drink. I stopped after I found a job that I really liked and I felt so much less depressed.

My fear is to flip myself and fall so the wheel is too down for at least try to keep the balance point, I tried to flip myself without fall and it worked but It took a lot of attempts and I still can’t do it in the first time, do you have any advice?
@danscompvideos
@danscompvideos Жыл бұрын
That's actually good practice if you're worried about looping out. Go slow and MAKE yourself start to loop out. You'll learn how and when to quickly jump off the bike. Do it in grass for a little bit and once you're comfortable jumping off the back you can really start learning manuals without worrying about falling because you'll know how to catch yourself.
