reading the comments i dont think people realize this was a social experiment with a provocative title to get your attention... the point is that wealthy people adopt a sort of "habitus" that allows them to navigate upper class worlds and body language/style of dress is more important than people realize. there are a lot of people who are rich but lack this knowledge- like reality tv stars- but they would never be accepted into a setting like this because they don't behave like upper class people. also the distance between you and another person can define your status, it's been proven- Edward T. It can be done. Sayles did it in less than one generation, by marrying up. There are other women that I know that moved up from lower middle class to upper middle class/upper class by attending university and marrying someone from an upper class or with upper middle class/upper class. A good example is Ms Obama.

Precisely! I do believe that - with the right training and resources (becoming self-made/increasing your status/ through one’s career) - a la Michelle Obama, Melody Hobson, Princess Grace Kelly was born in Philly, Meghan Markle, or attend an Ivy League school (e.g., attend HBS and meet your husband like my college classmate did) and on - you can ‘transcend’ the class you were born into.

A man whose a high income earner possesses qualities that such a woman admires, intelligence, skills, being a go getter and social status etc. So a rich guy might be a turn on in a lot of ways to women who pursue them for mates. Just a thought. Once money is out of the way folks are free to focus on other important things like actualization.

Mr. Fussell, at the end says that he doesn't believe that changing classes is possible, but it was true in my mother's family. When my grandfather was 12 years old, his parents gave him $5 for his birthday and told him he was on his own and kicked him out. He became a hobo and worked on many of the countries biggest skyscrapers and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge and the Royal Gorge Bridge. He settled in Cincinnati and went to work for GE on jet engines. He built the nosepiece for the Concorde. His son, my uncle, got a job at GE while in high school and worked his way up to Vice President of Jet Engine Sales. He has lived all over the world.

Another one got rich the right way, but then got greedy, and broke laws. Finally, there's my late grandparents who were honest and worked hard and succeeded financially.

For most people it isn’t possible. If we are to live in a world where there is always going to be a small owning class, there will have to exist a majority of people who own nothing.

I know who that is! He is Paul Fussell, a retired professor of sociology at UPenn. He's very elitist. I've read some of his works, and he is extremely critical of people "beneath" him. Oddly, he dislikes the middle class because he thinks that middle-class people are pretentious! He is great at analyzing class indicators, though, such as houses and clothing.

The only difference between the rich and the poor is money & education. If you have the education (and I'm not talking about Ivy League but just a good normal education)..but not the money..you ALWAYS have a chance at gaining the money in the future. The key is to be an interesting person in your own right..and not be all about the money. If you only want to be with someone due to their money..they will know it and will usually avoid you..unless they don't mind and just want to use you like you want to use them..which is not a formula for developing something healthy and long lasting.
@cameronsitton5013 жыл бұрын
You don't necessarily ALWAYS have a chance, because the system is massively flawed. Education, sadly, does not correlate with success- although perceived education is a powerful influence over people's opinion of your competency. If you think that the only difference between the rich and the poor is money and education, you're missing the entire point of this clip. There are a lot of other factors, including the cliquish behavior of the elite.

Mans expectations of women are realistic. A womens expectations of men arent. Expecting a man too have good looks, plenty of money, a nice house and all the rest seem to be some of the requirements and if a man doesnt have those things he is no good. If I was to expect a women to be amazing looking and a nymphomaniac to name a few those could be considered to be unrealistic expectations but I know women arent like that so I wouldnt expect them to be. When will women start living in the real world instead of being brainwashed by gossip mags and all those shitty television programmes that promote an unrealistic veiw of life and how men are.

As for not being able to change social class...I disagree with that older guy at the end. You have to be born into the 1%. If you're really beautiful you might can marry into the 1% but they usually marry inside their own circles. My husband was Poor and I Was Po and we are now the low end of Upper Middle class. So, we did it. College helped! LOL I retired at 53. I need to say this for the young ladies to know. BARROOM GOLD HAIR is not the best in the Rich World. I know, Ivanna Trump pulled it off...but Ash, Frosted, neutral buttery dark tones, platinum blondes with roots NOT showing ( which means upkeep ) are just better when looking for a rich guy. I got my Husband to go all whacky for me when I showed up at age 20 with professionally frosted highlights. I looked older ( I wanted to ) but classy! And, now at age 60 My natural strawberry blonde ( natural hair ) is kept a classy neutral shade slowly letting the new natural "silver" mix in. LOL.

The income gap between men and women in Australia is getting wider so - whats is wrong with looking for a man who will marry, provide a home for you and the children you share. Don't marry just for money but but be smart enough to look out for your future. Many young women today will live in poverty in their old age. Time to wake up girls.
@bryonwatkins14326 жыл бұрын
Bryon Watkins I will only date a rich woman for now on. Here are the reasons. One, when a woman tells a man he doesn’t make enough, then the man gets an extra job ONLY for her to say he’s not spending enough time, ughhh. Two, I will never have to worry hearing a woman saying or hinting that she wants a house. Three, my ex-wife made $500,000 a year when I made $35,000. Four, she CAN NOT be jealous or insecure like my ex-wife was due to bad experiences. Five, she will never have to worry about not having enough to travel. NOW, some will say that a man is supposed to do all of that. Show me the law that says that. Since women want to be equal to men, and BELIEVE ME, I agree, let’s judt say they can’t have their cake and eat it too. Doesn’t work that way. A gentleman still opens doors, stands up for his women and protects her to the death. Women I’ve met, and there have been plenty, they said I didn’t make enough, so I got another job only to hear I wasn’t spending enough time etc, etc, etc, etc.
@elspoko14 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately people do not realize that. Most people believe that if you work hard enough, get good grades, and are honest, you will become wealthy which isn't true. It is a sad fact that even the wealthy haven't realized. Old money doesn't accept the nouveau riche. You are either born into it, or you are not. People in America haven't realized that we do indeed have royalty in this country. The 1% owns almost 50% of the wealth.

I realized that I wanted better for myself especially after what I went through with my ex. I was tired of dealing with men who didn’t have the bare minimum and was constantly asking me for money and to help them. On top of that, I was still cheated on despite being down for him and helping him. I decided I would not date down anymore. I will either date on my level or date up. You shouldn't. Starbucks is a fast food chain disguised as a high end coffee shop. If you really want to level up and hang out with people from upper class and the rich, It is best if you search for a high end coffee shop and lounge at your city. They have it every where, NY, Boston, LA, Miami. You just have to look for it. They serve coffee and cocktails and are usually located in the city's financial district. You can take your laptop with you and work or study there, or just relax while you're surrounded by upper class people. Also keep in mind that the real rich doesn't want to be associated with stars/celebrities, they like exclusivity, that is why you don't see 'old money people' wearing that Luis Vuitton bag (that everybody owns it) or anything flashy with logos. I also saw a documentary once about 'old money women', they don't even like to wear design clothes that celebrities are photographed wearing it.

I love the way everyone calls this shallow, but lets replace the 2 females with 2 males and have 1 making the other over so that he looks classy and looks like money so that he can attract a beautiful women and I bet no one would have a problem with that, or call is shallow! total double standard

whatsinthatbox . :you have to be white. It mostly won't work for women of color: This is not correct. I live in Europe and I am half black and half white and I have met a number of very rich men. It is true though, you must be good looking and the other important thing is to exude confidence. You have to go where they are. For example, Mallorca, Monaco, Cannes, Rome to name a few.
