Not sure if you’ll see this. We started our painting projects this week and overall it went ok. We masked the ceilings pretty much step by step of this but while it was drying, some of the masking fell and I’m not sure why. I used 12” paper and 1.41 blue tape. Any potential insights would help before our next project. Thanks for the videos!

So glad I found this. Just started my own painting business the beginning of the year and it's beginning to pick up for both exteriors and interiors. Now i'm getting into airless spraying and my jobs have consisted of single color jobs, which is awesome but leaves me with some skill gaps that i'm trying to fill for upcoming jobs in the future. Especially helpful because I love spraying over rolling whenever I get the chance. Thanks for the great tutorial.

I would first use frog tape on the ceiling side without a masker to get the perfect line, much easier to do when not holding a masker. Then a 2nd very fast pass with the masker and cheaper tape onto the frog tape. That part is very fast as no need for accuracy since you already taped the line perfectly before.
@Xpert2077 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. U wouldn't have to be accurate holding all that. Just place and go
@LoveForTheTruthTV11 ай бұрын
That would require you to double your ladder work for the same area though. Seems less than ideal.

As always. Precise work which shows how you do things. Doesn't bother me how many corner issues you have. I kept looking for another inside or outside corner with the amount of times you said corner. I always called the long runs just that, not a corner. Finishing drywall for so many years corners were just that. Where a piece of corner bead was or an upright met the ceiling. Those were corners. Hahaha. Still, I appreciate everything you do to explain your process. Just like here with so many textured ceilings, and when you cut in and wiped down the wall angle, it left that edge for cutting in by hand really easy. Keep posting and keep doing your corners. 👍🏻 Look forward to the next video. Maybe some crown work which is my favorite to do. I like detail and that's what I like about what you do.

Spray all the woodwork and ceilings. Roll the walls. Its actually quicker.
@dereklemay10872 жыл бұрын
I like to spary one coat on the walls first, then switch my pump over spary the ceilings out completely. Pro tip always back roll, if you don't you run the risk of getting lap sheen even if you keep a 50 percent over lap when you spary.
@prophecynewschannel73982 жыл бұрын
in other words buy the time you do all this prep work AND backroll, you might as well just cut and roll the walls

never run a 1/2 lap, always run a 2/3 - 3/4 overlap. complete even coverage in one coat any product, and yeah i know, not manufacturer recommended. Wanna make some money? give it a shot. use graco green LP tips too, I use a 619 walls cieling, 315 doors trim.
@chudchewer2548 Жыл бұрын
@@prophecynewschannel7398 why are you backrolling interiors? Only time you need to backroll is extremely weathered wood work on an exterior, not even santa fe stucco color change. Run flat tips, wide fan (5-6), and cross spray. Backrolling is almost always used because the painter isn't using the right equipment.

Nice video Josh thanks. So you hold the tape 1/16th to an 1/8", giving you a tiny reveal. Won't the color that you spray your walls show up in that tiny ceiling reveal? I can't picture it in my head without drying it. Thanks!

Hi Josh, why do you mask the ceiling instead of the walls? If you used paper to mask the walls to spray the ceiling do you think the walls would get overspray? I try to minimise plastic waste so I’m inclined to use your method so I can use paper to mask the ceiling rather than drape plastic to mask the walls. Many thanks

So.. would one of those long paint spray shields work well enough? I assumed if you held that up against the ceiling with one hand, and spray with the other up/down, then move it along the edge, you avoid having to spend so much time taping a ceiling which you make it look easier than I thought but still feel like a 2 foot to 3 foot long shield would work well enough?
@TheExcellentLaborer9 ай бұрын
Maybe if you were very skilled that could work, but for most people, taping and masking is the best bet. I hope that helps!
@W0lffb0y8 ай бұрын
It does not. 100% don't recommend. The over spray is almost impossible to avoid and the paint will not be even. Especially when spraying the corners.
@b3owu1f8 ай бұрын
@@W0lffb0y Saw so many videos where it works great. some even use basic cardboard. I would use one of the bigger ones with stick and put some cover on it to absorb overspray. But yah, I'll probably mask as I am only doing my house. Not like I am doing this professionally.

Ceilings, then trim, walls last. doing the trim last makes no sense. Once the ceilings and trim are done, you tape out the woodwork and paint the walls.

Hey Josh, I meant to ask. How long should you let the paint cure on the ceiling or wall before using any masking so it doesn't pull any paint off. I know they have the green tape as well which I've used as well. Take care
@TheExcellentLaborer2 жыл бұрын
Hey David! Long story short you should remove the masking as soon as possible. The longer it cures the harder it will be to remove without tearing the paint. I hope that helps!
@davidharrison30742 жыл бұрын
@@TheExcellentLaborer that makes a lot of sense. I've done all my painting by hand but at times when cutting in around delicate things, removing the tape right away makes a lot of sense so it doesn't peel off. Especially going over different surfaces when remodeling.

Honestly not the best way to do this when using a sprayer indoors because of overspray. especially if you have a white ceiling and a darker wall paint the over spray will get on the rest of the exposed ceiling 100% of the time. if you want to be really professional, clean and not have a haze of overspray on your brand new ceiling, use this same method but then simply run and tape light painters plastic across the rest of the exposed ceiling.

The American way. Waste a shit load of single use products to save a few hrs of time. Not to evenentiom how you'll use 3x paint by spraying walls over cut/roll
@dad143210 ай бұрын
To me, a few hours is far more expensive than the materials to mask. Anybody spraying 3x paint vs. rolling needs to check into their spray tips or stop painting while intoxicated (PWI).
@W0lffb0y8 ай бұрын
I've actually noticed I use a fraction of the paint when spraying vs rolling.
