Here are some tips to massage the knee/patella
Never put pressure directly on the patella. Always check for swelling, heat, pain or bruises. This might be a result of torn tendons or ligaments. Refer out whenever you deem it necessary.
The patella is the most complex joint in the body. It is the largest sesamoid bone imbedded in tendons.
The Quads tendon crosses the patella to insert at the tibial tuberosity. Thus connecting the patella to the femur and tibia. Thus the reason It is different than the Hyoid bone which is considered the only bone that doesn’t attach to another bone.
There 2 1/2 ringed fibrocartilage disks they are the medial meniscus and lateral meniscus. This is where the femoral condyles glide over the minisci during knee movements. The 4 ligaments are the anterior cruciate ligament & posterior cruciate ligament these provide anterior/posterior stability. The tibial collateral ligament aka medial collateral ligament & the fibular collateral ligament aka as the lateral collateral ligament they provide medial/lateral stability to the knee. The patellar ligament connects the patella to the tibial tuberosity.
Bakers Cyst is also an accumulation of synovial fluid behind the knee as well as inflammation of the semitendinosus. I forgot to mention the Pes Anserinus which is where the Gracilis, Sartorius and Semitendinosus insert at the proximal medial shaft of the Tibia. Don’t forget to massage this area!

I have never, before your videos, acknowledged any “You-tube”videos until I first found your “ Massage instructional” videos. I highly commend & recommend you!!! As a retired nurse of 37 years, ( with a RN surgical-cardiac & Chiropractic background ), & having worked through AIDS & CoVid, YOU are absolutely COMMENDABLE!!!! Everything that you say & demonstrate is exactly the way that I was instructed! I started with Palmer Chiropractic College, which includes courses in anatomy, pathology, physiology, physics, massage & Applied Kinesiology. You are Old School & EXACTLY Accurate!!! I plan to watch ALL your instructional, educational, enjoyable & anatomically specific videos. What a joy in today’s World of “High Tech”…

You mentioned that you noticed some crepitus. Would this be joint crepitus? Also if a client has a history of bursa in the knee would these techniques relieve some of the bursa? I am still in school so please excuse any stupid questions. Thank you for your time in advance!
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 3 жыл бұрын
There are no stupid questions & I’ll be glad to answer. You are correct that Crepitus is the sound the joint makes when it releases nitrogen bubbles. There’s bone Crepitus and joint Crepitus. The bone rubs against the cartilage or the bursa has synovial fluid & releases the nitrogen. The easiest to crack are the Hallux (big toe) Pollex (thumb) and knuckles! Hope this helped! Congrats on being a great student and doing your own research & questioning! I love students like yourself that are engaging! Best of luck & create a great day
