Tengo setenta años .. soy viejo lol. So back to English so it does not take all day. At 66 I became a serious student of Spanish. I see and experience the forgetting curve daily as I take my morning walk and drill on sections of a 5,000 word vocabulary course to begin my 3 more hours of focused study. . So while I can’t disagree with the basic principles your excellent video provides I think there are several other memory setting techniques that the “Spanish language teaching Industry” misses. I .don’t know the names so I will give them my own names. 1. Daily review of pronunciation fundamentals, that is, the sounds of vowels, diphthongs, and combinations (por ejemplo bra bre bri bro bru). Now see, hear, and feel these sounds as you pronounce all of them as you practice “en voz Alta”. 2. Practice everything out loud and when you can’t recall then get mad and channel that energy into paying better attention to your studies. 3. Spend time each day “studying ahead”. For example find an advanced lesson and challenge yourself to review what you already know and to struggle with what you don’t. Then repeat that lesson the net day and the next until it is no longer a struggle. I could go on but you are the teacher and I the student. Anyone can learn anything. They just have to do whatever it takes. Thank you for all of you great lessons. I am a fan.

E. L. Thorndike, the father of educational, said that practice makes perfect...and he was so right. Thank you for another excellent lesson in Spanish. Everything that you say is always "spot-on" and correct. To learn a foreign language, mathematics, or anything, the student must realize that there is always a price to be paid...time!
@harrywensel8456
@harrywensel8456 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your concept of always a price to be paid. We all get 24 hours a day of time … no charge. The catch is you can’t get time back once it passes. So maybe the price is whatever the alternative use of the time was? It is a wonderful time to be alive. We are unburdened from survival in our daily lives and have choices. Espero que tengas un buen día amigo.

I'm learning Spanish and was confused by two things. At 5:18 your graphic is missing "que" "...tenía que ir..." but you say it correctly. Also, why is it "tenía que" instead of "tuvo que"? His going to the bank does not seem like a habitual or ongoing action. It seems like an action that was completed yesterday. Does "ayer" invoke the time and date use of the imperfect tense or is there another reason to use the imperfect tense?

REQUEST: It is good to see you making new youtube content. You have a few really good videos but I would like to see more. As a suggestion for I topic I would like to see a video on a complete listing of all the conjugations of the verb haber including the indicative mood present, preterate, imperfect, future, and conditional tenses. In addition the two subjunctive mood congugations present and past. That would make a total of 7 charts. With each of the seven charts and congugations it would be nice to include what compound tense the conjugation is used for. For example present conjugation of haber is for "present perfect tense" Thanks, and this is just a suggestion keep those videos coming you are doing great.

The point of this video was good, but now I am confused now by the use of the phrase "tengo que"...I thought the verb tener (tengo) was normally used for describing possession (i.e. I have something....) whereas the verb haber is used to say I have to do something. I will have to search for your video on the topic of tener vs. haber.

5:18 Why is it “tenía ir” instead of “tenía que ir” here? Is the latter wrong? Or maybe you just drop “que” to avoid too many “que” in the same sentence, while still making sense? Edit: Sounds like you said the 2nd “que” out loud, anyway 😅

This is not a Spanish lesson! How lovely it would be to find language instruction videos that omit redundant explanations of the obvious, and avoid falling back on cliché mechanistic inapplicable breakdowns of how memory works or doesn't work, and instead would simply stick to precise, concrete expanations of how the target language functions, trusting that the student will pay attention and catch on. This is a rant, yes.

A general comment for you (positive) Your videos are not too long. There is a very, distractingly, pretty female Spanish utuber who tends to pick a subject and the explanations are too long to maintain full attention! Yours are bite size so you embark on them in the first place, and continue with full concentration to the end. Excellent stuff….
