Questions? Yeah. You didn't explain how and when to use "haber", which is supposed to be what the video is about.

What about “se me nota mucho”? I heard it’s kind of a sarcastic response like “gee really? You could tell”?

One thing I would like to point out - Which is proper is not correct grammatically. You shouldn't say which is more proper. It's clumsy and very awkward to my English ear anyway. I would probably say which is the correct one or which is more correct either or etc. The only way I can explain this as a rule is by using the following example; you would never say more better just as you wouldn't say it in Spanish. You can say much better or even much more in certainly sentences. You can't say much more better as you are using to superlatives together. It sounds odd and really grates. I was watching a KZbin video today where native speakers of other langages were playing Chinese Whispers with French sentences and were using English to communicate in. They all said that French is hard and English is easy - One mistake non-native English speakers don't realise is that English is a very difficult language to learn because it is made up of so many languages. It has many influences and a lot more complexities in terms of grammar and vocabulary then is taught. English may be easy for the non-native to learn to understand aurally and even orally but and it's a big but if and only serious learners of English, go passed the speak and listening stage, you would realise that English isn't as easy as people think it is. The amount of words which are spelt the same and pronounced differently, the words which are specific for one thing but have many other meanings attached. The idioms and colloquialism. It's very rich and probably nothing to do with Spanish but seeing a comment below that it makes you appreciate English - That's because you either haven't studied it to any great depth or your mistakes have never been corrected as most English people don't do that - whether it's because of the always being polite manner we have but I think it's more akin to the language itself as other speakers outside of the UK don't correct because we understand and don't make a big deal out of things. Because we really have adopted the attitude of it's better to speak as this facilitates learning the language etc. Back to the context of this video anyway - sorry I digressed lol. More proper is actually a case in point of what I was saying above and it's just not correct and sounds awkwardly clumsy. English lesson over lol!

thank you for th video, just one point you speak too quickly, it would be useful if yyourepeated the spanish question twice, I am trying to digest what you said each word in the sentence, but its already gone before I can look at and say and process each word.

This was so helpful! People hardly ever focus on non-literal phrasal translations when teaching languages. I'm intermediate in Spanish and I barely knew any of these!

Me gusta este video. Estoy aprendiendo mas de dos horas cada dia. I started working intensely almost 3 years ago. Currently testing at a high B1 level. Found this video very encouraging. I use multiple methods to improve. Lived in Miami for 32 years so my exposure level was very high. Had just never studied seriously. By summer 2025, I will achieve B2 status. After that, my plan is to spend extended periods of time in Columbia and Spain fully immersed. My ultimate goal is a solid C1 rating by my 65 birthday. Puedo hacerlo. Thank you for this video. Your perspectives reinforced so many concepts that I have found to have merit.

This is easily one of the most difficult things I struggle with in Spanish. As a Hispanic, it totally outs me as a someone who is not fluent lol. Even having heard it all my life. And I just realized the ones I DO automatically know to use are the ones I subconsciously realized were always paired with the verbs that I heard and added to my vocabulary. The ones I had to actively learn still have prepositions that evade me. Thank you for this video! I never knew what to look for to improve this!

Gracias por tus vídeos, los disfruto mucho, y puedo entender muy fácilmente. Just a comment regarding the 2nd person plural which is very common in Spain, but possibly less so in America (N or S). Could you please introduce the “vosotros” form for us? Por ejemplo “os veis mañana” no solo “nos vemos mañana”, o “se ven pronto”. Soy inglés pero vivo en España después hace cinco años, y más común aquí son “tu” y “vosotros”. Una vez más, gracias y espero tus próximas lecciones, Mark

Speaking of forgetting common words, when trying to give someone a recipe from memory, there are a few words in English I keep forgetting. I seem to always remember them in Spanish, but I struggle getting the words out in English. Which is a bit odd, since English is my native language. Of course being married to a bilingual woman for over 30 years may have some bearing on the issue. BTW, I just turned 75.

I am 53 (and a half) and definitely feel that my memory is slipping at times but I am very motivated to learn Spanish. I'm currently taking your El Viajero class and I'm finding it very helpful. Every week I'm able to incorporate new learnings into conversations or to correct old bad habits. It's not perfect every time but the connections and improvements are being made. Poco a poco!

Hi Andrew. ¡Este video es fantastico! I will soon be 82 and I love studying Spanish and watching your videos. I am very grateful for your emails and tips for learning Spanish. I am my own greatest obstacle in learning. I always tell myself that I am not good enough and can't really have more that a second grade level conversation with someone. This video made me want to throw all of those feelings away and study harder. Thank you!

Hello, I wonder if you could help. Your explanation video of lo que suggests that lo que requires conjugated verbs either side. But I can not work out where the phrase bueno, esto es lo que se necesita hacer fits into this. I am not sure where the first conjugated verb is. Is it es from ser.

I kind of disagree with you about estás and ser. You further confused me. I would like for you to explain and give examples so I can better understand. That would be so helpful for me. Everyone learns differently. Especially language. Because there IS logic behind languages. Otherwise there is no point for grammar, context, syntax and spelling. That’s how we learned our native languages, not only by our parents and family speaking to us but mostly through school and reading/writing classes, practicing, and further English classes. I do agree with not asking why. I think the better question is to ask How. How can/do I say this in Spanish? or how can I explain that? How can I express myself? How do I say I feel embarrassed? And also what. What words can I use? What does this word mean in Spanish? What are some other ways to say the same thing? (Like come on… está bien for everything?) What do I say? What can I say? How do I say it? How can I say this? Let’s not jump the gun here and throw out all logic. Just the why part. Because understanding why something works or why something isn’t this way or that can crush the childlike curiosity and excitement of learning in general especially a language. :) <3

It's funny that I've been saying this same type of things for years. That is, if you tell me something, I may only remember it if you tell me again later. But by the third time I'll probably know it and the fourth time I'll definitely know it. I'd always known this about myself, but never knew there was a term for it.

I gave this video a like. I am 66 years old. I go to the gym almost every day. I agree that learning language can in some cases help slow the process of mental decline. Old people who have loved learning their whole lives have some advantage learning things. Since we have learned a lot in life sometimes it is harder for us to unlearn. Thanks again for this interesting video.
