yea i had played arkham city and asylum when i was a kid but i recently got knight and its all pretty much new to me so i keep fucking up lol.

short short version: don't button mash especially not with counters, use the evade move to escape any incoming attacks, remember what moves give you invincibility frames: in city and knight you are invincible when aerial attacking a shield enemy, when you use a special combo move such as instant takedown, and typically also when you counter. sometimes batclaw slams give you i-frames, but I think the timing is extremely easy to get wrong as I have been hit many times trying to do it And remember, its a rhythm based combat system. If you press counter when no one is attacking you the combo will drop, if you evade in empty space twice the combo will drop, if you miss an attack or get hit the combo will drop

Great tip! I have one that isn't a tip but more of a help since some people still dont know how to do it To blade counter, you hold Y or Triangle when the slashing is happening. Release when you see the brief pause and the last release you do will enter the specials takedown animation. 3 slashes for goons and 4 for ninjas with swords

He way I've adopted playing is more reaction-based. Originally I would just do whatever got me through it (strike & evade), but then I started reacting to what the particular enemy is actually doing, and it becomes this crazy dance that flows way better than dodging every few seconds. That's just my opinion, but I also think it's what the game wants. Makes it more of a challenge than cheezing through it.

For score purposes remember not getting hit will always be better then doing some flashy things with gadgets and getting hit . Also try to finish the last 2 enemies with a normal special take down (triangle circle ) then ultra cape stun ( circle 3x) the then dodge roll once then hit them with ground take down (crouch triangle ) it gives u the most points for finishing someone off .

Combat is quite tough not gonna lie... What you need to try if you're new is, attack enemies in a circular motion and in the older games you can't attack enemies on the floor so attacking in a circle gives those enemies time to get up and become attackable... Another very useful tip is the cape stun and evade (over an enemy) will suspend your combo and wait for you to perform your next attack (knight has no limit to how long your combo is held - not too sure about other games)... Punch an enemy once and then target a different one attacking an enemy twice could lead to you attacking the air as they are on the ground recovering which will break your combo... If you are doing the challenges do the circular attack pattern and do a ground take down for lots of points... Get into the rhythm of the game you are playing... Asylum is much slower and has a header counter system - you can't counter while an attack animation is in progress so get acquainted with the time you have from attack to combo break so that you know how much time you have to wait for a counter... Good luck and if your get good enough at the asylum combat you will be godly at all the others since they are less rough than asylum's

Solid tips, I came from spiderman ps4/5 to arkham knight, combat felt clunkier, I was used to focusing on attack and waiting for dodges from that game, so the best help so far was the tip to focus more on vaulting over enemies as opposed to relying on dodge as much. In an attack, cant always interrupt an animation to dodge here in batman, unlike in spiderman. Small change, big difference.

Arkham combat whether it was hand to hand or stealth always felt deeper and a little polished. I do find that Sm ps4s combat had less issues like arkham city's abrupt combo ending because a bench man was on the floor. This is just a minor flaw in what is arguably the best superhero game combat system.

Yeah, you can't play the Spider-man game the same way. Spider-man is much more acrobatic and Batman is more of a brawler kinda. Which is really good in a way. I like both honestly, but I like the up close combat of all the Batman games by just a smidge. Both get an A+ though. Just my opinion.

I'm pretty good with Arkham city. Its my favorite in the series. Asylum in my opinion is a lot harder when it comes to the hand to hand combat. No matter what I do there always seems to be a guy that suckerpunches me out of my combo. Throw 10+ enemies in a very small room and it's ridiculously hard imo. Today I actually got that trophy where you had to knock out all the joker's henchmen on the way to the party. Omg that was ridiculous. I felt mentally challenged trying to beat up all the guys in that small corridor. It was not easy but at the same time it wasn't anger inducing. I admit I haven't played any Arkham games in years so I'm rusty, very rusty. I've forgotten the rhythm. But I can honestly say Arkham city is waay more forgiving. Asylum leaves very little room for errors. You have got to be extra careful otherwise thugs will own you. I have to admit though some of the fights in the story weren't as aggravating this time around, like the Harley Quinn boss fight with the electrical floors. I remember having to replay that a few times unless I'm only remembering the challenge mode fights lol. But like I said city is less forgiving. If you're not careful you can get hit out of a combo. And enemies can really man handle you and knock you around like a ragdoll. But city I remember kicking so much ass after my memories of asylum where I kind of took it in the ass. Payback is a bitch!

Thank you for mentioning the importance of the evade move- Vaulting over and away from enemies is quite possibly the single most important thing to do in combat, specifically if you wanna do challenges that require long combo chains or fights without getting hit. A note for Red Hood which I've seen is that he seems to get immunity frames (or maybe just more shield enemies in general) during his aerial assault (B -> A+A+Left Stick Towards enemy, the move that's meant to counter shields) that NO other character seems to have to my memory, I don't know why exactly this works, maybe it's just a quirk to the enemy pool he's allowed to fight as well, since he seems to only get the invulnerability for a few seconds when doing the move on shield enemies, and I'm pretty sure brutes might've been replaced by shield guys in his combat scenario? Either way, that move specifically seems to stand out for him in fights, and you can quite possibly clear entire combat trials with ONLY that move on Red Hood. But yeah, evasions and vaults are broken, since they temporarily seem to break aggro, can make enemies hurt each other instead, extend the amount of time you have before your combo resets, and give you a brief window where you can take almost any action without the risk of getting hit, just to vault/evade again- Counters ARE more rewarding, but they're also riskier, so since learning this forbidden knowledge I typically only counter at the start or end of a fight- There's also the issue that using a counter and mistiming it, even if you don't get hit, will instantly break your combo and stop all your momentum, which is simply an issue you don't have to worry about if you focus on avoiding or canceling attacks altogether. Only enemies that don't seem fool-proof to these strategies would be some bosses, the hammer and sickle twins in City, and fights with multiple Titans in Asylum- Although I'm not sure if this is a strat that works for Asylum and Origins as I don't remember testing them, but for Knight and City, I'm pretty sure this works around 90% of the time. Evades are like Counter's older, less popular brother who is actually a lot more chill and easier to approach.

You forgot the other advantage of the Blade Dodge Takedown. It gives you the most points of any move in the game (excluding multi-hitters), which is 100x. It's also worth mentioning that the Batswarm (or whatever other group attacks move the character has) are extremely useful in combat maps because they can be used to farm a shit ton of points on the last round. In most Arkham City maps you can get all 3 medals on the last round using the group attack properly.

I’ve platnuimed every Arkham game but Irvin’s so I’ll say this if your not going for high points and just wanna clear a room strike once then use a batarang then strike again batarang again ( go for critical strikes too) then with all those ppl on the ground use the special move that has u jump in the air and throw batarang a at the ppl on the ground and u can takeout like 5 ppl at once . It’s truly the fastest way to take ppl out also the best tip I can give if I’m general with Arkham games is not to button mash .

In Joker’s Funhouse in Arkham City the 5x multiplier also superpowers the gadgets. One of my favorite combos in Joker’s Funhouse is to keep Abromovich alive when the Titan enters at level 6. I usually have free flow so I can swoop across the map and cape stun the Titan once. Then I quick trigger the explosive gel and immediately detonate it. This has the same effect as a triple cape stun. An added bonus is that if your multiplier is yellow the increased blast radius will take out most if not all thugs around you (except for Abromovich) so you can beat down the Titan without getting harassed as much. If I activate the multiplier again I will shoot the freeze blast over my shoulder and it will freeze mist of the thugs (usually Tiger guards who have faster reflexes and tend to swarm) trying to come up from out of view - including Abromovich. I use this as an opportunity to split my attack between the Titan and the stunned enemies behind me. By this point I am able to piggyback on the Titan and I will circle around Abromovich while the flailing Titan provides critical hit damage to him and any thugs trying to swarm you. When the Titan finally shrugs me off, Abromovich is a single hit KO and then I will immediately deploy the super powered explosive gel on the Titan again (to speed along the second rodeo encircling attack) and one final time to KO the Titan. By using supercharged gadgets and doing damage to the regular enemies like this it allows your combo and KO’s to continue unabated and achieve max level quicker. I also do this because level 4 on up is where I get sucker punched by Titan guards so this “defense” allowed me to avoid having the clock run out if I were to just focus on Abromovich and the Titan. Typically, I will max level during my first Titan piggyback slap fest as one of his hits counts as a critical hit.

My biggest problems to this day is Bats not prioritising who you aim for. If there is a high danger target and you evade to get behind them and then aim again he can and usually does go for someone else. Same with if you are evading throough the crowd to get to a target in a busy area and he just decides to go for someone else, even though you are aiming directly at the target you want.

pro tip for arkham origins: if you need to end a fight quickly or want to end a fight and get more points, arkham origins gives you two special combo takedowns, so if you REALLY WANT TO or REALLY NEED TOO use it on a goon to get more points and end the fight, BUT IF THERES LIKE 2 ARMORED GUYS FOR EXAMPLE just use it on them. edit: I have 0 clue if this is also applied to arkham city, asylum or knight as well because I haven't paid attention to that in those games, I just happened to notice it in origins one time

Thanks for this guide, I wasn't sure if a guide would help my combat. But, just some of the techniques like how many time to hit an enemy, when to hit them on the ground, when to use the instant takedowns and especially the dodge over people helped me out from your guide. I was able to dodge over anyone - even the thugs that would normally tackle me. And I took out way more without getting smacked around or losing combo because of wrong attacks or inputs - one of my attempts at using the techniques I learned I got a x64 combo mostly just by jumping over enemies, landing 2-3 hits on each and taking them down one by one instead of trying to a lot of hits from the beginning of fights. Also, since I now know not to spam gadgets, I can enter with the bat-claw and take them down swiftly for the most part. (This was on Arkham Knight on pc with ps5 controller - also was on Hard Difficulty btw) Many thanks, highly appreciated. Liked and subscribed! 😁

Bought arkham city and asylum 6 yrs ago and just actually got back to them and got 100% on both. Pretty close to finishing knight but im so annoyed by going to hit someone on one side of the map all by himself, just to go in slow motion and have someone run from completely the other side of the map and kick me before slow motion stops in the challenge maps.

I'm playing Knight at the moment after playing City and Asylum in the past, and to be honest I feel like Arkham City definitely has the best combat. It is so much smoother and has such a good flow better than Knight and Asylum. Knight seems not so bad but it just seems too clunky or something like Batman's wearing a block of iron or something, and it also seems less responsive when moving from enemy to enemy in a combo.

@@schizogony I do think the combat is still pretty good though. And now after playing Knight and getting 240% completion, I understand it a lot better. You have to get use to one combat change. In City, you could just move the camera and use the fight button and Batman would be able to get a freeflow combo and strike enemies from one to another. In Knight, now you have to use the camera, but you also have to aim Batman (with the move batman stick/button) directly to the target you desire and then strike.

I've always played the series using my full kit throughout fights, and prioritizing counters above all else. I guess since I'm decent with my timings. I have always struggled on some of the more difficult side character challenges, though. Particularly the 50k point infinite Robin wave. I'll have to try a more evade focused strat and see if it helps next time.

I found the late game enemies difficult, sometimes you have to fight 15 goons with guns, shields blades Taser, and big guys. That is just too much

My only gripe with combat in Asylum is the combo breaking for not countering when you dont need to. An enemy is running at you, the counter prompt shows up but you just start attacking before they hit you and that kills the combo...huh? You didnt get hit and no time lost but it treats it as a negative. I know rhythm combat and all but just feels cheap to punish the player for choosing another option that has the exact same outcome or for the player just playing more aggressive while not getting hit.

I do have one question that I really hope someone can help me with, I am a PC player and I'm aware most people who play this game aren't so I'll stay away from saying things like "left mouse button" or "space bar" My problem is that whenever I try quick batclaw someone, especially if they've been electrified by a medic seeing as that's the best way to safely take them down. and my combo meter is full then sometimes it will do a special combo batclaw instead of just a normal one and I don't always want it to do this because sometimes I want to use my full combo meter to destroy a shield or take down a big enemy I've identified the problem as the fact that a normal batclaw is pressing the button I have it assigned to and the special combo batclaw being the same thing but having to hold the button instead of just tapping it which sounds reasonable but the problem is that it's like if I press the assigned button and have it held down for any longer than a millisecond then that's considered holding it down which just feels ridiculous and I don't feel like I have any real control over whether I do a normal or special batclaw I don't know if anyone shares this problem but if there is anyone out there who knows any way around this problem please let me know I would really appreciate it! :)

Is he? U know what I do in Arkham Asylum?? I keep jumping over the bad guys heads, and I punch them and they fall in the water,..this is the part when I think I kick ivy's ass. Also, I know how to beat the brutes with a drop kick in the air with BATMAN,...it's a secret...yes i'm suppose to share this..but if I was to tell you, then you'd have to be my WIFE in order to know...but since ur not my WIFE...I am sorry boo boo. But U will never know how to do that drop kick in the air with BATMAN and when I stomp the BRUTES they stay flat on the ground, they don't get back up they stay their like a stick LOL stiff as a door knob. Bye bye

I watched this video twice just to be sure I heard correctly but I’m still not sure. He suggested not to use (Y) counter or counter takedown? I am playing City on hard and hate the (Y) button response. I decided to use only the (Y) button during my fight with Ivy and was able to beat it by only adding the (A) double tap evade for the spore shots. Doing it this way helped me see that only up to two goons will attack at any one time the others wait and back off looking for an opening. So to answer my question. Tap the (Y) button any time during a goon attack to counter. Double tap (Y) to counter two at once. Doing only this will guaranty a win against basic goons especially when the screen is flooded by thugs and the camera spam spins around you. It was entertaining to see cat woman beat them down then stand there waiting for the next punch the back of the head only to clear the field with full health. Next I’ll be expanding on the moves I use…

Arkham Asylum doesn't have the Ultra Cape Stun, its only City, Knight and Origins that do, iirc for the other 2.

@@DillahGaming I really tried Arkham City for the Wii U and the brutes with hammers and Titan Monsters are very difficult to take out when others are attacking. I noticed in Arkham Knight, the Batclaw Cape Stun can be used to start a fight, for an Aerial Juggle move but vulnerable in mid fight. The Ultra Cape Stun can be used on the last enemy of a fight or a round to leave them open for a ground takedown. Do you recommend B.A.T Mode for the Armored Edition of Arkham City (Wii U Exclusive).
