I will add one thing i learnt recently: The different limiter styles make a HUGE difference to the character of the track. It's always nice to circle through them for the one that suits your song better (the a/b option makes it easy to compare between them) PD Incredible funny concise video. Congrats !

dude, 5dB of Gain Reduction in the limiting stage is just WAAAY too much! it causes ugly distortion and just squeezes the track in an unwanted way! its just overcompression and sounds horrible in a club for example. Kciks will loose impact etc... not to talk about the need of oversampling and ceiling settings at at least- 0.3dBfs to avoid intersample peaks with the pro L2! You CLIPPED the ceiling man!... thats not good and streaming plattforms will destroy the signal even more if its delivered like that! digital clipping has to be avoided during the whole production process!....to the people who want to achieve -8Lufs(or even less) without just limitig the shit out of the signal: BEFORE Limiting the signal ... 1.use several compressors for several tasks but with low ratio and not more than 2dB of gainreduction: one for the peaks with short attack time and short release time, one for the punch with slow attack time and one with medium attack and medium release for the glue! experiment with the postions of these compressors in the chain and "feed" them individually, depending on what the track needs. this will bring you about 2-4dB of Loudness Before the final Limiting Stage. -without ANY PUMPING effects. you can try VCA comp like SSL gbus style (glue comp in ableton for example) for punch and peaks and maybe something like a fairchild670 for the glue- just try out to use several compressors but with very soft compression. maybe even 4 or five! it will always sound sooo much better than one compressor with heavy settings. 2. make sure to compare the master on the same LOUDNESS with the Reference MIx! use something like "perception AB" to switch between processed and unprocessed mix- to make sure the mix is REALLY sounding better! ...in the video he just makes the mix louder...and louder will always sound "better". but it can be a trap! ...3. Saturation -to achieve more "percieved" loudness and density: add overtones. you can try something like KAZROG TRUE IRON or TONE PROJECTS KELVIN to give your mix some character and warmth...experiment with it and try out the parallel mix function to keep your dry signal punchy! 4. the most powerful way to get a Loud and STILL dynamic(!) sounding master is controlled CLIPPING before the limiting! Stage: there will be always some unwanted Peaks before the limiting stage, like Kick and clap together are louder than just the kick or percussionsounds are too clicky etc... you DONT want to feed the limiter with that kind of stuff as it will react unregular and pumpy! you DONT want to compress(a limiter is still a compressor) the whole track based on PEAKS wich are unnecessarily loud! You want to feed the Limiter with controlled peaks. use something like "Kazrog Kclip" or "Standard Clip" to cut the unneeded irregular peaks and dont clip more than like 3dB... youll get another 1-3dB(!) of Loudnes BEFORE the Limiter and you wont even hear a big difference. you just cut whats unnecessary were a limiter would already start to COMPRESS! use the clippers on OVERSAMPLING mode to get the best Sound quality out of them and take care that you dont clip the digital "ceiling" after the actual clipping by setting the output level to -4 --6 dB! IF you have a good interface/CONVERTER you can try to clip the inputs of it by just going out of your interface and back into it! like 5/6 out and then into 1/2 -you just need two cables for that :) ...maybe even into built in preamps to get some analog color! most of the times that will sound better than plugins if the converter has a good quality. 5. LIMITING: first of all make sure the Pro L2 is in oversampling mode as this will prevent INTERSAMPLE PEAKS! - set the ouput level at least at -0.3dB Fs (streaming plattforms actually want -1dBFs for their conversion procedure!) than switch of true peak mode(sounds shit) and increase the limiter input gain untl you see a gainreduction of maximum 2dB...ckeck out which limiting algorythm wors best with your track! in pro L2 they sound VERY different and its completely up on you what you choose. if its still not the loudness you want, add another limiter... its the same like with the compressor stage...more is BETTER! always use gentle settings! if a limiter has to do too much (like in the video) then theres stuff to do before you hit it... a Low Cut at 15-25Hz and a High Cut at 18Khz- 30Khz might be taken in consideration as well to save some energy before the dynamic processing! .....hope that helps! CHEERS from berlin :)

boy you better take that zero latency mode off the pro-q 3
@Trem.official
@Trem.official Жыл бұрын
boy thats true. I didn't include it in this video since I needed to explain what linear phase means and whats the difference between zero latency. So didn't want to go in full technical iin this video. But thats what I use when I master any song
@naughtyducky6325
@naughtyducky6325 4 ай бұрын
Using linear phase generally does more harm than good. As long as you’re doing very subtle eq moves on the master, which you should! then I’d recommend using zero latency, it beats the pre-ringing. Also that SiEQ and Pro-mb would be producing a phase shift not just the pro-q3, if it sounds good and you don’t loose significant headroom there’s no need to worry. one of the only times I’ve every felt the need to use linear phase is if you’re needed to eq a signal in parallel but even then if you’re only eqing reverbs/delays linear phase is pointless, since most already significantly alter phase. Be carefully with really short slapback type delays tho.

10 seconds attack time on the limiter? why? also i do width automation in my mix, you shouldnt per se do this, always listen! some drops are ment to be thinner than the build
@Trem.official
@Trem.official Жыл бұрын
I tried different presets and that one sounded the best to my ears. It makes just a little difference since the dry/wet knob is %50. It doesn't mattter if you use the width trick on mastering or the mixing stage. At the end of the day you need to use it on the master channel, so it makes almost no difference
