Other times, I face an unbearable situation. I begin thinking ‘It won't work anyway.’ ‘They will all hate me.’ ‘I will only be humiliated.’ Then I think about the situations I have been avoiding. Meeting with people that make me feel uncomfortable. Work that stresses me out. Things I have been procrastinating for a while. Try to identify the actions that you have been resisting. It can be the things on your to-do list that you have been delaying for days, things you haven’t even started because you think there is still some time left,, or things that you have been putting off to do when in a better condition. Feel the resistance to these actions with your body, not with your thoughts, and relax your tensions.

Motivation simply means having a motive. Ironically for me, I'm most motivated when I'm least ambitious. I desire no rewards nor results. Not to become anything nor have anything or even control anything. When I'm in this type of mental space, that is when I'm most motivated,most driven. When there's nothing to achieve or become, the whole world is yours, you are the whole world. What else would you want? That is the point when you realise that you are free to do anything you wish to do with your time. And you do your best when you feel free.

I'm so glad you addressed the physical health of it all at the end. It can be hard if you're a motivated person but you've taken on too much. I put myself right into burnout by being motivated and being super productive - but then not taking care of myself. You have to remember your whole self is connected - you can't just run yourself into the ground and expect to keep going - even if you're still motivated. Eventually, something will quit on you.

Everything we want more of requires effort; 🔥 and the ability to push through resistance if it is something we haven't anchored in yet as a empowering habit. Therefore, YES, we need MOTIVATION to get the energy flowing and to keep going through the difficult times when we just don't feel like ti. When we are FIRED up 🔥 focused on our WHY and following our passion then ti's easier to get motivated however we need outside stimulation to help move things along when we get stuck. I am fortunate that I love what I do yet I still make sure to fuel myself with inspiring messages via podcasts, books, writing, speaking out loud power declarations, meditations (I create my own), watching documentaries, exercising, and having meaningful conversations with like minded people. 💪❤️

"Motivation is either fueled by our attention or by momentum. It either takes REFLECTION or ACTION to generate serious sustained motivation. Either reflection or action because ultimately from the reflection that gives us clarity, and clarity can give us confidence OR action can give us momentum and when we have momentum, motivation is Way easier to cultivate, generate and sustain obviously." Ignorance is bliss... I know to much to stay motivated anymore. Lot of good advice here for someone that is not already to far gone. I need something much more "powerful" then this to wake up lol ;) My experience is that it helps a lot if you get a good start early on in the day and avoid all the things that brings you down (last part is pretty much impossible to do where I live now as everything reminds me of the all the bad that has happened and keep happening).

@lukaskkramer4 жыл бұрын
When you say you need something much more "powerful", what is it specifically that you feel you need? A lot of High Performance is bringing our mastery of the fundamentals up to another level. I've learned that a mindset of thinking that there's something outside of myself I need to do / be / feel something saps me of control and just keeps me stuck. How can we help you?

Brendon, what is the difference b/w motivation and discipline?
@lukaskkramer4 жыл бұрын
Of course, I'm not Brendon but I hope I can still provide some value here: I don’t think there’s necessarily a difference between the two - I’d say they are interconnected and they compliment each other in a virtuous cycle. In ’The Motivation Manifesto’, Brendon defines motivation as a combination of ambition - the desire to create, give, connect, contribute, and become *more* - and expectancy - the confidence that you’ll actually be able to fulfill those ambitions. It’s a feeling of necessity to go after what you want, what is. Important to you, and what brings meaning to your life. Discipline, in my book, is the virtue of doing what is necessary to serve that motivation. No matter how much we love our purpose, there will always be challenges to overcome and tasks to do that we don’t enjoy - that we would avoid if we could. Motivation inspires us to be more disciplined about our next moves, and the disciplined actions we take will reinforce our motivation … which grows our discipline … which grows our motivation … and on and on the cycle goes! Hope this helps!

Do you feel like this is a bad thing? As long as it gets you to act positively and virtuously in the world, I wouldn't judge your motivations. From the stories of many great entrepreneurs and coaches, I have learned that money is always a means to some bigger purpose. It's the tool to achieve or feel something ... because isn't it right that all our ambitions for *more* are, in the end, based on how we want to feel about ourselves, others, and the world? What makes money important to you? Why are you motivated when it's part of the game? (I might be wrong but maybe there's an even deeper motivation to be found here for you)

A way to look at motivation is to look at it as energy - the energy that gets us up in the morning, that gets us in the zone. Each of us is driven by different things and therefore we are motivated by different things. There are 9 key motivators: Searcher: Driven by purpose, by making a difference. Creator: Driven by doing new things or solving problems in new ways. Spirit: Driven by independence and freedom. Builder: Driven by money, competition or external rewards. Director: Driven by being in control of people and or resources. Expert: Driven by learning, knowledge or by sharing that knowledge. Star: Driven by external recognition. Defender: Driven by security and safety. Friend: Driven by belonging, by community. These are our intrinsic motivators and we will have 1-3 at the top that truly drive us and one at the bottom that may even demotivate us. Let me know if you'd like more information on this.
