Yes same pattern and position...you can kinda cheat on the wall facing and use your toes to climb up and get more arched, and it won't be as detrimental because you can just let you belly lay up against the wall. You should still try and stay tight and do it the same, but I find wall facing easier cause you can kinda use the wall for help.

How about the elbows, is it wrong if the elbows flare out/go more to the side when doing a strict hspu? Are there good ranges of elbow flare for strict and kipping?

I would try to keep it in a similar pattern as a push-up or a push press with a barbell...when you point the elbows out, it makes it so you don't have as much torque and power coming from the shoulder. It may make them easier for you, but in the long run I would say it's not ideal.
