Great video! Looking forward to the next two. One thing that I want to mention, regarding the dead spot you've mentioned, I have a hypothetic explanation. So, the fan projects a cylinder-shaped wind, and its height is determined by a line drawn from the fan center. Whenever this cylinder collides with an object, it adds wind force. Therefore, when you hold it slightly higher, where the fan center passes the rail edge, the cylinder becomes long enough to collide and adds force. Similarly, when it's in 45 degree, the cylinder is also long enough to collide with the stacked rails, because the center line is extended diagonally.

damn this is great, i got frustrated with building railjets not being very reliable so hoping to see an easy to build and optimized version I can try! This is quite literally the best autobuild device in the game, kinda worried what would happen if devs patch it... I know you can just turn off autoupdates but when DLC comes out we would have to eventually and the build meta would regress significantly. It's been this long without an update so maybe it's possible they aren't going to, who knows
@chesepuf Жыл бұрын
I'm working on part 2 now and think it will help give you a reliable plane! It's true, they may patch it out, but if you build one and save it to your favorites, it should still autobuild after the patch, you just won't be able to change/add rails.

The news I heard about DLC wasn’t looking good in terms of the odds of it ever actually happening but we’ll see. Idk why and how Nintendo could turn it down like isn’t this their bestselling game it’s at least up there

if you attatch a railing to the moving part of a small wheel it does not detatch, like it would with any other item

you can also use the railings to connect zonai devices. Try attaching the railings to a construct head and then place a beam emitter on that rail

I'm trying to use railings to create a hover deathbot. Using an upside-down construct head on a regular one I was able to get a fan to work and act as a sort of homing steering but even with railings I can't get anything to hover more than a few inches from the ground once I add a bunch of weapons and a stabilizer. I thought I could use a detached fan and the railing to maximize my upward thrust but it's still just too heavy once you add a stabilizer and a construct head with a few weapons on it. Any suggestions? I did make a homing hover bot that was effective in low gravity but in regular gravity it's no better than a homing cart since it barely has enough lift to glide across flat surfaces.
@chesepuf Жыл бұрын
I see, this is a cool idea. Yeah the railings won't be able to lift as much weight as it sounds like you have. I know a stack ( like >5) of railings can lift a cooking pot and stabilizer, but that's about the limit. How many railings are you using for the lift?
@stevenleonmusic Жыл бұрын
@@chesepuf I tried it with only 2 railings because the cage I built to lock the loose fan in place already required 3 so I was running into the problem of hitting the component limit before I had enough weapons to do much. For some reason fans won't blow on top of a working construct head OR on top of a non-working but upside-down construct head. They have to be attached to the upside-down head in a way that allows it to still move which means they overcompensate a bit and tend to circle the enemies-not really much of an issue if the device actually hovers a bit but when it gets stuck on even small rocks it tends to just get hung up and tear its own pieces off. I wish the fans just worked on a normal, upright construct head, why did the devs think that would be bad?!
@Chris_Myers. Жыл бұрын
If the edges of the rail catch the air, have you tried tilting the rails at a more steep angle so that both top and bottom edges catch air?
@Squimblink Жыл бұрын
I think that i made a plane with the what i call the "railing motor" (the stacks of railing + non attached fan) in the back first and it actually has better manuverability than the ones with the railing motor in the front and it even has just enough speed to not kick link off of the steering stick. I definitely think you should experiment more with it. It could also make X-Wing builds better looking
@LinkoftheDepths Жыл бұрын
I still think the 2 fan bike is the best. These might be fast, but they cost more and are bulky. I already get stuck on enough geometry as is.
@TheGreatMageblood Жыл бұрын
I'm curious, have you considered instead containing the railing stacks in, say, a box of sorts while connecting the front fan to the main body? So the rail stack is "loose" rather than the fan
@chesepuf Жыл бұрын
I have! That's called a "junk drive" by the hyrule engineering subreddit. It's a viable build, but I focused on the loose fan since I found it easier to contain a fan rather than loose railings. If you have good ideas for the junk drive, I highly encourage you to try them out!

@@chesepuf Limiting horizontal motion with something like other rails or objects (star fragment, dragon horn, etc) would work wouldn’t it? I feel like the quality of life of having normally controllable thrust with a Fixed-Fan build is a huge upgrade over the Fixed-Rail builds.

If 5 railings is too fast, can you add some extra parts to add weight to slow it down a little?
@chesepuf Жыл бұрын
Exactly yes, you just have to be conscious of the weight distribution and how it will balance while flying
@tomaylott2593 Жыл бұрын
What if you balance gravity with a loose fan? Can you get something to hover in neutral?
@chesepuf Жыл бұрын
I think a single loose fan will weigh less than the rail force it would provide, you'd need to add some more weight

If you have a rocket as initial acceleration, will it get into max speed asap?
@chesepuf Жыл бұрын
Good question, I haven't tried it. I could see it either being very helpful to reach that speed, or it could get really weird with the loose fan getting pushed.
