There are several videos out there actually showing each method on KZbin. Most are quick and easy. No blood with cervical dislocation. Some just conk them on the back of the head. Too much room for error for me. Some use pellet gun. Watch the videos and see what makes the most sense for you. The hopper popper seems to be a common method. Check it out. Thanks!

Hello Paige! Go to “living tradition homestead” KZbin channel, they have a series on “raising rabbits for meat” names r Kevin and Sarah, they have been raising rabbits for years. They will teach u EVERYTHING u need to know and the proper way to raise and handle rabbits. They also have videos that break down the cost of food from birth to weaning, another on how to sex the rabbits, which at weaning they will also separate males and females (this guy putting all his rabbits together n a cage that’s not big enough will start mating) they will show u how to build a pen that’s on the ground for the ones that is weaned to enjoy eating grass. Trust me, go there, u will learn lots,, and not on just rabbits. Have a wonderful day

And when you move the outgrowns one to there own space do uou have to separate the bucks and does from each other so that they don't try to "reproduce?" Thank you!

@RidgeLife3 жыл бұрын
Naw its fairly cheap compared to other meat sources. They are doing well thx.
@homesteadingtennesseeriver5692 жыл бұрын
Yes it's expensive now. I guess it depends on your income. You want cages to last. For a grow out pen frame four leg a roof. Build your cage out of wire no wood . Slide your cage in your frame. Rabbits can't chew on the wood. Kindling hutch you can do the same but you must put nesting boxes in so be sure your wire door is big enough to slide nesting boxes in. You can remove your nesting boxes after the kits or wened. I prefer wood nest box's for fall especially. I've seen people using plastic nesting boxes rabbits chew on anything . No plastic. Personally I prefer a mix rabbits to pedigrees. New Zealand cross same size breed for cross. Thiers less health problems with mix rabbits. Meat mutts . You can still get great looking stock. I'm not a seller of rabbits. For personal consumption. Doctor recommended low cholesterol for me. Besides being enjoyable raising rabbits. I like this guy attitude we're all humans. Most of us eat meat. You can be kind to your animals I spend lots of time with my rabbits. Yes I got my pets in the bunch. I checked my rabbits for any sign of health problems couple times a week. I check hocks ears nose watch make sure no intestinal problems from rabbit poop to dressing one. It's more too than meets the eye . Experience is the key. You can find history From certain breeds online. Any issues which may occur. That will give you idea what your willing to deal with.

If you do decide to use the pelt some day Im noticing people in our rabbit group asking if anyone has pelts for sale because they are learning to tan hides etc. Im sure if you check your local fb meat rabbit group you will likely see some people asking. Or maybe say hey I am trying to see if any one has a purpose for these. They likely wont bring much in but its another resource if you ever went that route. Also it would show people they can do something with the pelt. Heck maybe someday you may want to try making leather from it which is possible if you didnt want fur pelts. I need to catch up on videos Ive been a bit preoccupied lately (closing on the 2 acres today. Its not a lot but its close by where we live and has water, sewer, and power to the property). Ill go back and watch the videos I missed a bit this morning and on and off this weekend. Snow is finally gone hopefully it stays gone. We are intergrating our baby bunnies and our new Flemish adult doe into the colony girl group so it has been pretty time consuming but will be worth it when they can all run around together and the boys can go back outside to their hutches. Oh be careful about her being overweight. Good Simple Living bought a breeder doe already grown and she couldnt breed so they decided to send her to freezer camp after a few tries that didnt take. They have a video about the processing and wow that bunny had all its organs so incased in the fat she likely wouldnt have made it much longer if they hadnt decided to process her. Some animals need fat or handle it ok but rabbits just arent built for it. It was actually pretty alarming seeing what was going on in there with that overweight bunny. Spirit our new Flemish we are hoping running in the pen will help her like Pumpkin. She was basically gut loaded with calf manna so the lady could say she had the biggest Flemish rabbits around.

Greetings from SW Louisiana. Just started raising rabbits and came across your channel. Will be doing meat rabbits along with Meat Chickens both for family and market! I like your laid back explanations and a new subscriber. I have a few questions You mention warm weather rabbits living in SW Louisiana which breeds would work best for my area? 2- what feed is best, and I also planning on building some chicken tractors to run on my 22 acres and curious how well that will work grass/grain feed? TIA for your answer
@RidgeLife2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The TAMUK are bred for just that. New Zealand’s are the base for the and they bred until they had rabbits with long ears and thin coats. There are several places in TX and LA you should be able to get them. A good high protein feed is best but I am more of a hobbyist so is it Mana Pro from Tractor Supply. There are better out there for sure. I am not an expert on chicken tractors but they are widely used and very effective. Good luck

I honestly really want to get into raising and harvesting rabbits. They’re so cheap, easy to raise, easy to please, and they’re super tasty. I love rabbits- I even take care of some pet rabbits on occasion, but this seems like a self-sustaining hobby I might like. Questions, though, do you keep the rabbits with pretty fur, or do they end up in the freezer anyway? Do you look for certain personalities in them to where you’ll put those aside for breeding or selling? Is it easy to get attached to rabbits, even if you know that you’ll be butchering them once they’re ready to be harvested?
@RidgeLife2 жыл бұрын
I keep and name the breeders. The offspring are for sale or meat. I get new breeders from outside to diversify the gene pool but could d keep the best body size. Color is only important for selling to some.

You might want to show every process in detail instead of skipping some steps. I didn't finish the video for that reason. Next!

Yeah, unfortunately, KZbin is cutting that type of content out step by step. This was about as far as I could go. They shut down a child firearm safety video of mine from two years ago last week for child endangerment! Crazy!

I love rabbits, and that broken one is soooo cute. I have to admit .... I did not enjoy the first part of your video... even though I love eating rabbit meat....
