This is the silent star of the show. I’ve yet to try it but I’ll almost certainly do this when I do my kitchen. The plastic-y shine is maybe my only complaint of epoxy. I will probably bring mine back even a bit more, just enough to take off that plastic quality

Good luck-we sanded and it is a complete mess. The polish does not work, the expensive polisher we bought does not work-scratches everywhere. Our vanities are ruined.

I'm going to go 'against the grain' here and say, Hi sheen. I think on the lighter marbling projects it reflects more light and makes a room look lighter and brighter. Especially, if there is a window or large chandelier in the room. JMHO.

Gorgeous! When I had a contractor do my countertops in a marble finish a few years ago, he fought me over giving it a low sheen. I wanted the matte, natural, centuries old marble countertop look. He just could not get that concept. The end result was still a higher sheen that I wasn't completely happy with, but better than the original fake high gloss. Thank you for doing this!

LOVE the honed look! It’s such a high end look right now. In our area, it costs an additional $12 a square foot to get a honed finish on marble. This is a tremendous savings and it looks so much like the real deal.

Mike Quist This video has had me rethink about some of my finishing choices. I would have to say the biggest thing I fight when the epoxy is curing is dust an air movement. After seeing how this turn out I will be doing some experimenting for sure

I like the matte finish because it feels more rustic. The high gloss is pretty for a mansion or fancy hotel. Depends on personal taste. Matte finish for me 👍🏻

I much prefer honed on my epoxy countertops I make but I have noticed you "lose" some of the subtle 3-D effects especially if you have more than 1 color layer or sprayed pigment features. The actual feel of a honed surface is cool to the touch and screams real stone! Thanks SC for all the valuable knowledge you give , may it return back to you with interest.

Definitely the honed. I love the colors popping on the high sheen, but I am not crazy about the sheen itself. It always seems kind of "plasticky". Side note. I won't be doing any of these, but I love your videos. They are both entertaining and instructive. My dad was an avid (though messy) DIY guy and I grew up learning things like this. I can't physically do those things but love watching - it brings back a lot of fond memories. (When Varathane FIRST came out and did commercial flooring with a base coat, color chips (like plastic confetti) and top coat, he brought home some leftovers from them pouring the dealership showroom floor and we re-did our laminate bathroom counters.

It hides scratches better and since it is essentially a smooth surface, just not glass smooth it wipes clean quite easily. A scratch that would be very obvious on a high gloss surface is only noticeable if the light catches it just right on a sheen surface.

My vote goes for the matte finish, and I will be honest you have changed my thoughts on using epoxy as an overcoat simply because by roughing up the surface like this in a controlled way, it no longer looks like an 80s epoxy countertop.

Question: After sanding is there any kind of seal coat that would fill in the micro sanding grooves? Other people on YT are claiming that going for the low sheen by sanding causes so many stains to show up on the surface like cutting a carrot, coffee rings. If that's the case, it makes it really hard to justify the low sheen that leaves sanding scratches that collect stains. I watch so many of your videos and am about to epoxy 3 homes and want to set realistic expectations for the finish and longevity of the finished product. Thank you for your help.

Doesn't look like you got a response. But I have a tip. I have discovered a technique from another KZbinr named "Dusty Lumber Co." ....he sands the final gloss sheen of the epoxy resin with 220 I believe. (Don't quote me on that, find his video and watch it and it will show you) Anyways, after sanding to get rid of the sheen and add some "tooth" He simply sprays a few coats of water-based poly in a matte finish. Or you could do a satin or semi-gloss. Point is, for customers that want the durability but not the gloss, this is the technique he applies. I have done the same thing amd it works great! I have a customer that has a bunch of kids that do home work and play with toys and play dough and all kinds of other "destructive" activities on the table I built and she says the table is still in perfect shape. She's had it for a year now. 👍 Hope my 2 cents helps bud.

Im in the UK so product im be using ART PRO CLEAR RESIN. Contacted the company. Asked them this question. No issues with sanding, but if you go as low as 2000grit will repolish. LOL Why would you cut a carrot on countertop? thats what cutting boards are for.

Great question Debbie! You can clean with normal household countertop cleaners, but soap and water generally do the trick. Just try to stay away from very harsh chemicals such as bleach and ammonia. -Nathan

Hey there. I mistakenly forgot to remove my sanding disk and ended up doing a first layer sand at P40 coarseness. It was rough! Do you think if I keep going through all the levels of paper, that I will eventually clean up the piece and it will be fine (no scratch marks?). Or should I just scrap and move to the next piece?

I tried this on a small sample board and noticed that the surface was less resistant to " rub marks" not scratches exactly but marks made from a glass or a pot edge being dragged across the surface. I may have done something wrong that I've overlooked but it makes me hesitant to do this in customers house until I can guarantee the results. Any feedback would be appreciated, also a great video.
