Kinda feel the need to specify that the 383 motor can be built from any of the small displacement motors. 4.8/5.3/5.7. Not just the 4.8. Just in case some people don't know that. 👍 Also if your going to spend the money on a stroker kit start with the 6.0 and do a 408. Or bigger. 😃

Hey richard, it's Charlie from ohio. I'm building a very interesting setup based on a SBE 4.8. has a LS1 stage 3 BTR cam, a set of milled .030" 799's, TBSS intake, 1.75" headers, and good valvetrain parts. I think it should run well. Going in my Fairmont in front of a T5 transmission... I'm hoping the lack of low end torque will allow it to live until I can afford a t56. As always man I love the videos.
@kennethpowers89952 жыл бұрын
It should hold up OK on the T-5 as long as you don’t get too crafty with traction and try to dead hook the thing a ton. Fairmonts aren’t super heavy and that helps the cause. I would keep a radial on the car so you get some tire spin under hard launches if you wanna save the gearbox and also use a good clutch so you can slip it out of the hole and save some shock on the cogs in the gearbox. I’ve used those Tremec 5 speeds behind boosted SBF setups making upwards of 500 HP and had them survive just fine on the street, but they like to check out when you start putting sticky tires on and doing aggressive or “no lift” shifts on a well prepped track. My WC T-5 lasted the longest (93 Cobra pull out) and I ran that behind an 8.2 deck 331 on spray, but as I said even base T-5s have worked for me at high(ish) power levels if you baby the shifts. If all else fails, T-5s are a dime a dozen so you can always keep swapping them out when they break until you get a 6 speed.

That 600 hp 383 is really nice, but I bet it’s $8000 to duplicate it. If you have a Gen IV long block, say an L33, you could bore it to 5.7 for $1000+/-. Granted an L33 is the most expensive 5.3, but it’s way short of the built stroker and has slightly better stock heads. Or just leave it at an iron block 5.3L and save some more. Add a turbo using truck manifolds and a cam-four digit power potential for way less $$.
