Whenever using a tape measure for precise measurements I find its best to measure from the 1inch mark on your tape... Eliminates that slack problem

I think you should do a video on your shop. the layout, history of the building, the tools and give us a tour. I am into cars, and I love your videos, but I love the stone garage building you work out of.

If you have an 8 inch difference in the two measurements you are only a 16th of an inch out. When you measure across the frame you are supposed to divide the difference in half to find out how much the frame is out so your frame is only a 16th of an inch out on the back section

I always try to use my tram gauge..... but I've done tape measure also.

When I use a tape measure and a helper I always just tell them to use the 1" mark as start point then there no confusion

My center cross member doesn’t have the giant holes on each end. Anyone know the reason? Everything else is exactly the same except the that

Why the replacement? Was the original damaged? Thanks Newk from Kentucky
@nealpurdy12026 жыл бұрын
Yes original was rusted out so bad that it was unsaveable
@IronTrapGarage6 жыл бұрын
Hi Newk, Yes the front cross member looked like it had a pile of leaves or something sitting on/in it for years and the moisture just rotted it to swiss cheese. The replacement has some pitting but is much more solid!

How does he go about getting a title for this car ?
@nealpurdy12026 жыл бұрын
Hopefully the body comes with a title otherwise every state is different on titling old cars with missing titles sema has nice info on this
@IronTrapGarage6 жыл бұрын
Hi Chuck, Every state is different. You can apply for a special construction or street rod title in some states, or use a title from the body you use like Neal suggested. It varies on your location and situation so I can't give a ton of advice there. -Matt/ITG

Check with your local dmv as to getting a title for special builds like this if the body used doesnt have a title

How would you go about making sure the bottom of the body is straight? I have a 40 ford with rusted floor pans and want to make sure my door jams didn't move from their original location. I noticed the bottom of the quarters are in more then the door. Same idea using like holes/points inside?
@IronTrapGarage6 жыл бұрын
Hi Nik, I'm jealous you have a '40! I still regret a coupe I passed on two summers ago. Such pretty cars! I'd start by cross measuring each door and seeing where you're at. If you can't find diagrams to check with you could ask someone with a nice original car at a show to measure they're openings. The last thing you could do is to measure your doors and check them to the openings and see how far off they are. Hope that helps! -Matt/ITG

Thanks for the fast reply! I think I will do all of the above. Keep the videos coming. I really enjoy them.

I'm surprised you don't measure NEAR TO FAR . Near side of one hole to far side of the other.
@mikeaze4235 жыл бұрын
What if the holes weren’t drilled identical in both sides?
@AtomicReverend4 жыл бұрын
At the factory they were drilled on a giant machine all at once.. When you get a frame/body manual from Ford or pretty much any car company no matter how new or old they have where to measure and what the measurements are and what is considered acceptable tolerances.

How expensive to get yourself a portable sandblasting set up? I know you can haul something outside and blast a frame or body right on your own property yada yada. You know all that no doubt. Anyway. Cool watching as per usual.

I've measured modern damaged car frames with a laser on the bench and 1/8 in or 3mm is well within tolerances. That's only 1/16 side to side. Not even worth thinking about.
