Most elderly people have problems getting up off the floor. As a child you spend a lot of time on the floor, adults do not. Doing yoga / stretching exercises on the floor can improve balance, mobility, flexibility and the ability to get up and down.. Just getting up and down to the floor in a controlled manner is difficult for many older adults. Play with your children on the floor. Bend over, get down and pull weeds in your garden. Play with a pet on the floor. The more effort you make to work on balance and flexibility will pay dividends as you age.

Well,actually last September I spent 27 hours on the cellar floor until someone noticed I was missing.
@jacquelyns9709Ай бұрын
I fell several times during the 1st 5 months of 2023. I had to call 911 to get up off the floor. None of the 5 PTs I have seen since wanted me to get near the floor. I am not going to get on the floor by myself. So I won't be doing any of these exercises. I have been doing a number of other exercises and have gotten much stronger. I do flexibility exercises using my rollator that I learned from this channel.
@KJSvitkoАй бұрын
@@jacquelyns9709 Ideally people start doing floor exercises while they are still able to get up and down without any help. The idea is to extend your ability longer in life. Sounds like you are beyond that point and need assistance to work on balance, strength and flexibility from a standing or sitting position with something near by to help with stability. A chair, counter top, a walker or even a cain can be helpful and provide added stability. Once you are unable to do floor exercises it is difficult to do them. Some of the exercises can be performed while lying in bed though. The point was to continue to get on the floor as you age and while you are still able to. That is why you need to do these in your 30s, 40s 50s and beyond. This should be a life long practice not something you suddenly try to do after being unable to get on the floor years or even a decade. This was about prevention and keeping the ability thru out your life. Maintaining strength and flexibility is more desirable than trying to rehabilitate after loosing it.

That makes such a difference. People don't realize how little movement they do in a day as they age.

I'm catching up on your videos as I have been in pain in both arms, my neck, and back for more than a month. Between radiation a year ago, cancer prevention meds, and another med attacking my body, I have been fighting to get my strength back and not let the 'cutes' win. Your videos are wonderful at giving me more ways to get in shape again. God bless all three of you. Bob, too.

Great as always. The bird dog could use a more qualitative approach, regarding to the core and spine Stability aspect. When doing it, the purpose is to hold the core and keep the lumbar spine in a neutral position all the time, or you dont really train the core effective. Mike went from neutral to exstension when he performed it, and the pelvis dropped from side to side, so no really core Stability. And the hold should at least be 10 seconds, working up to 30 seconds at some point. Great as always, but the quality was lacking a little with the bird - dog.

With the bird dog I do not do that on the floor. I have a bench seat on my porch. I put one arm on it for balance then lift the other arm and the opposite to the arm leg and hold. My knees won't take being on the floor anymore.

I do these standing. That gets some balance work in too. And I've done the opposite leg and arm lift while lying on my back. It doesn't do the exact same work but does help with elongating the spine.

2:50 is going to be tough if your... "top heavy" (i.e. big belly) - instead of the upper body going up the legs come up and this whole exercise is becoming more of a balancing act than targetting specific muscles. I'm also not sure how good it is to do situps when having abdominal separation - would it worsen or better the issue.🤔

I’m not convinced that women should be doing less than men for abdominal exercises; the upper body in a woman weighs less than in a man

I agree. Unfortunately, research focuses on men. Not much research done to really see what works best for women.
