Not helpful for measuring the diameter of an already plumbed pipe such as my hose bib and water supply line. Trying to find out if I can measure around the outside of my of pipe with a flexible tape ( used in sewing) and if that measurement can be converted to the pipe size or not.

Divide the circumference by 3.14 then look up a chart. 3/4 isn't .75 it's like .86 OD. I still have to refer to Google

That was very helpful. I don't know if anyone else covered this and I didn't know how to do it. So it's the top inner dimension of the pipe to the bottom inner dimension? If my pipe is 1/2 inch and I need to replace the existing shut off valve, do I buy a 3/4" shark bite valve to go over the 1/2" fitting so it slides over? Thanks!
