Measuring the hip has shocked me and now makes so much sense!! I used to measure where my actual hip bone was - which didn't account for my protruding bottom and I wondered why the fit was never quite right! Thanks Lisa 😊

Many thanks for the tutorial. As a advanced beginner, this was very helpful. I think fit can be one of the most frustrating things about sewing.

A good refresher! I find that with the advent of low rise jeans, people have forgotten where there natural waist is. Thanks : ))
@lunasmum68695 жыл бұрын
I am sure you are right. I absolutely hate low rise and mid rise trousers. I am only comfortable when they come right up to my waist they hold my big tummy in better instead of pouring out over the top! For that reason I have certainly not forgotten where my waist is. I can feel it easily.

Thanks for this. A video on how to chose what size to make would be really helpful. I think I should be doing a FBA but don't know which base size to start with.
@MsSherrydarling7 жыл бұрын
If you're making pants or skirts, choose a pattern that fits your hip measure and tops should fit the bust measure. You can always take a waist in and adjust top proportions too.

thanks so much! one question, so when you measure, the metal part counts or when it says zero? idk if that was clear...both ends of the tape has to intersect with the other...do they have to intersect at zero or at the thing at the beginning of the tape that you pull?
@lunasmum68695 жыл бұрын
All my tape measures include the metal bit which is there to stop fraying and so making measurements unreliable.
@lunasmum68695 жыл бұрын
I shouldn't have said the metal bits made measuring unreliable. Typos! They make measuring reliable because the ends don't fray. The measurement begins rigt at the edgeof the metal so when it says 1 inch that is 1 inch from the very end. So, when measuring, include the metal bit.

I have a question about bust. What if they are wearing a sports top but if they take it off you end up with drooping. I feel like would get a wrong reading either way.

Am I the only person who's fattest from in between my waist and my hips? I dont understand why people dont measure that part...
@lunasmum68695 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree.My hip measurement is the same as the measurement around my fat tummy. I'm never sure how to adjust for that.

I you aren't going to wear a bra with the garment you are sewing then yes. Measure with no bra. However, if you are going to wear one then measure whilst wearing the bra you will wear with the garment.

That is true, but for a beginner, or a refresher, it is good to go slowly and explain properly so there can't be any misunderstandings. I'm not a beginner by the way, so I can see where you are coming from.
