How to megger through solar modules.

His module string is producing voltage, say like 500-800V and you are applying 1000V with insulation tester which make the applied voltage across the modules be 1800V +..... Most of module rated for 1000 or 1500V with a saftey margin of 30%.... So most module can with stand upto 2000V...... By doing this insulation testing during day time when irradiation is above 500W/sq.m you are dangerously close to destroying the modules yourself.... Do this test at night if you are testing it with megger or fluke

Is there a possibilty to get megger damaged? As i know modules or strings should be short-circuited to handle IR test according to IEC 61215. Please clarify this . Best Regards

I had an isolation error with one inverter. I did a short test with another inverter which did not give the same error under the same circumstances. I did the same test as you do in this video on that string with really bad weather ( windy and rain ) and the string still gave a 16Mega ohm reading. Do you think it is safe to assume that the string itself is good and the error was coming from a bad inverter ( inverter was a Solarmax 2000S and well over 10 years old ).

Sir, how can we check insulation value of a string cable(4mm², single core, XLPO solar cable) ? And what will be the voltage value for meggering ?

depends to voltage system, if PV system is 1000 vdc run the test to 1000 vdc, if 1500 then test with 1500v. You have to be sure that theres not fuses or voltage conditioners in the string or they can be roasted. The Insulation resistance value in arrays/strings should be equal or greater than 1M ohm

Sorry to be a pedant, but you were insulation testing with a Fluke tester. Megger is the registered trade mark of Megger Limited and does not appear at any point in this film.

whats the model of the fluke meter? you mention that it's 1000V specifically DC is that correct?

Looks like a Fluke 1503 or 1587, but any megger will work. Yes, 1000 VDC. Meggers only use DC voltage
