Just found your channel yesterday, and this is the first time I’m actually watching a video when it comes out! I got the memory kit earlier today and I’m planning on diving deeper into it over the weekend, but I wanted to say this ASAP: THANK YOU! I’ve been trying on-and-off to learn memory techniques to help me with my school, hobbies, and day-to-day tasks and I’ve never found anything that quite clicked. But your videos and lessons seem to have been the ticket! You’ve covered such a huge range of concepts, perspectives, techniques, and tips on your channel that I finally feel like my questions are able to be answered and my learning can go unimpeded 😊. I can’t thank you enough for all the work you’ve done and all the information you’ve helped spread to people like me. Much love ❤

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I’d have to go through more of your catalogue to see if there’s something you haven’t done yet, but a big one I’ve been searching for is a way to memorize songs, like how to play symphonies on the piano from memory, and I don’t think I’ve seen that yet. Have you made a video on that topic, or is that even possible?

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM and on a more serious note, I saw one video where you mentioned how you used these techniques to help heal and move on from some bad experiences in the church. I’ve also had experiences like that, although I’d rather not go into detail as it’s still painful to talk about. I’ve done some work on healing from that, but I’ve never heard of memory techniques being used to help heal trauma and I’d love to hear more of your knowledge on that front! Edit: spelling

Thanks for these suggestions. For music, I have this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKmThWmthLmfqtE I do use some mnemonics to remember music, but not to the point of the piano parts in symphonies. Just much simpler stuff using number systems and the fretboard as a kind of Memory Palace. For the transformative/healing aspect, that came partly out of a scientific study I read and partly out of an intuition to memorize some Sanskrit that literally talks about erasing thoughts. This TEDx Talk unfolds the core of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oafXip2ap86Gpq8 There's a book called The Victorious Mind that goes deeper. Some of the most recent ways I've talked about related processes are here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3O1d2Sla6qhoM0 Hope these additional videos are useful and just shout out if any other ideas come to mind. I might have something that addresses them. :-)

Richard Feynman shares, in Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!, a cautionary tale of students who had memorized reams of material down cold, without understanding what any of it meant. In the end, it was not a problem that they had memorized before understand. What was missing was the awareness that this is what they had done. He showed them how to take the next step to understand the meaning. Facility with all of the terminology at that stage provides a scaffold for long-term learning, and you already can discuss what you've learned in the language of the field.

He is good to raise on this point because he also says, ""It is my task to convince you not to turn away because you don't understand it. You see my physics students don't understand it... That is because I don't understand it. Nobody does.” That is in QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter.

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Thank you much Anthony. My question is, regarding civil services, how to tackle so many subjects together, like political science, sociology, history, geography, economics, environmental science, science and technology, ethics and so on in a period of 10 months(time left for the exam for civil services)?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM
@AnthonyMetivierMMM 3 ай бұрын
If someone wanted to sponsor the channel for this particular content, I would have the time and resources to look specifically at the civil services exam. Until then, I would suggest not "tackling" anything at all. Use the Magnetic Memory Method so you bring power, not force to anything you want to learn. All you need is good time management skills and a reliable means of absorbing info for long-term retention. There is no lack of information about how to do this, nor is there a lack of examples. 10 months is also a vast amount of time, provided you organize your time well and have the best possible tools.

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Hey Anthony! I think you've already spoken quite a bit about this, but anything to do with enhancing concentration during studying / memorization. For me, as someone who is easily disturbed by noise, finding a quiet place is critical. However, this is not always available - and therefore learning to manage with distractions would make life easier. Paradoxically, I feel like memory palaces (once they are there) are pretty distraction proof, but the process of creating them seems to require intense concentration.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM
@AnthonyMetivierMMM 3 ай бұрын
Setting up Memory Palaces shouldn't require intense concentration if you're making true Memory Palaces. Once the basic principles are in play, it's about 2-5 minutes of setup for each. In terms of concentration for studying, here's a recent mini-Masterclass on how I got so many good grades in university despite many obstacles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZqTkoeBqMSWo7M Do the suggestions in it make sense and help you out?

Hi Anthony I wanted to discuss your opinion about a memory technique where you use symbols/symbolic references to memorise a sentence and then solidify it using the Mind palace. Like in History to symbolise the word "economy" I use a dollar currency symbol then place it in various places. Then once I got all the symbols for each word along with its designated places in the mind palace then I recall the sentence. And I do this so on and so fourth for the next paragraph.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM
@AnthonyMetivierMMM 3 ай бұрын
I personally avoid that kind of thing. Econoline Crush is a band that used to play on the radio in Canada when I was in university and heard it all the time while working in a movie theatre. So I would use them if I had to memorize "economy." Their music might not be your cup of tea, but I use all kinds of references I don't particularly care for just to get the job done. Here's the song that was big on the radio if you want to add them to your pool of Magnetic Images: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqqyn4OYo9V_d6M Anyhow, a direct, specific and easily animated image is personally always better than a bland, generic and easily forgotten symbol. And countless MMM students have found the same. Your mileage may vary (if you'll forgive a pun on Econoline Crush...) So the real answer is that you need to experiment and be radically honest about what's really working and worth the time vs. what isn't it. Now that I think of it... I seem to remember even seeing Econoline Crush play on the university campus where I was studying... I'll have to see if I can find a touring history from those very early days... Point being, your question and this mnemonic case study brings back many wonderful memories and Memory Palace locations I haven't thought about or used for quite some time. Thanks for that!

Papier so I was memorizing the Artikel of german so I don't need to memorize the meaning , and even the meaning are clear becuase the photos are given in the book. I'll imagine - a big gift box sound with heft and I found a book in that book in that book I see a road because the picture in the book looks like a road and then I see a painting hanging on the road and then I hear a sound in my window becuase fenster means windows and I saw a auto or car where my teacher and mappe is giving me my test paper

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM yep, I mulled over the word debit and the bit part stood out the most and biting comes naturally to zombies, and then when you run with the concept in bookkeeping terms, you take bite out of someone's "account" and in general its always a bite size chunk, but when a zombie bites it add to its horde in the receivers account. So it works in a larger scheme of things, it's versatile
