How to Mend Clothing: Fixing My 8-Year-Old Shorts with Multiple Holes

I have had this pair of shorts for 8 years now and over the years they have taken quite a beating. They have 5 holes in them that needed repaired so, in this video, I walk through how to mend holes in your clothes. This is also how to visibly mend your clothes, although this is a more minimal form of visible mending. I hope that you enjoy!

This reminds me of when I mended a hole in my light blue seersucker shirt, which is 7 years old and still looks new. I also enjoy replacing buttons on shirts and coats with more interesting ones like horn or mother of pearl, adding a unique personal touch. I like the idea of how mending is about embracing the beauty of imperfection, making small repairs to clothing you already own so that you can wear it for longer. It rejects the idea that newer is better and adds a bit of character while you're at it.

That’s my favorite part of mending is finding the balance of taking something that is old and used and had stories to it, and making it new in a sense ready for more stories to be created with it. Glad you enjoyed!
