I usually do your first step, second. I find it helps a lot with keeping it together whether I'm cutting Onions, Shallots, or Garlic.

What’s your secret to not crying. Every time I touch an onion I cry
@JanCharles6 жыл бұрын
You know - I think (*think) white onions are a bit better than yellow ones, and red are better than white. But I think the best thing you can do is use a wickedly sharp knife, and move as quickly as you can while working safely. It takes practice, but it gets really fast once you've done a few. I think a dull knife makes it worse. I have no proof whatsoever, so that may be worthless advice, but I hope it helps!
@cainlolsson976 жыл бұрын
Do it quickly and with a sharp knife. The sharper the knife the less of the tear inducing liquid is forced out of the onions :)

You've done a good job of dicing the onion BUT how do you mince onions? How do you get the consistency like garlic through a press?
@carolestafford5187 Жыл бұрын
I've watched several videos and it looks like dicing and mincing are the exact same thing, but in mincing you just cut the onion very fine... like shaving it

Rocking like that with a cutco knife. Had my hands clenching in fear for you knuckles lol. Try one swift motion from tip to base of the knife. I use to sell those knifes and honestly it will make cutting alot faster even if you think your already fast.
