This was a serious issue for me, I would get as far as seperate by midi pitch and then duplicate a new track for each existing track, then drag the old midi sections to the new duplicated tracks and go from there. This video is so helpful.

Great video. One thing to also keep in mind is that when you do this technique- the output to each track/drum is dry. There are no effects as there would be in the EZ Drummer or Superior Drummer mixer 2 mix output. I have been a little frustrated by this as i have tweaked the mixer in Superior Drummer to my liking, but want to export the individual sounds only to find out that i need to then do a completely new mix in Logic. I wonder if there is a way to capture what is happening in the EZ Drummer or Superior Drummer mixer and send it to individual tracks in Logic?

Thanks Chris, I managed to do this once and then couldn’t remember how I got there, this video has been perfect in explaining the process. 👍

I use Templates to save time once all this is set.And also make GM mapping for the Third Party drum programs.I haven't updated Logic in a long time and was surprised to see this still being the case.

Very informative and something I've been wrestling with. Question once th notes are separated by pict there are like 6 different tracks of Hi Hat because of open hat, half closed, closed etc. If I wanna join them all into on track how do I do it?? Thanks

I am seeing this right? Kyle, the logic drummer, can do all things the logic AI drummer can do, but the sounds we hear are from EZDrummer?

Is it possible to convert the separated midi tracks into a track stack or folder stack so you can collapse them when you don't need to see them in the arrange window?

With the amount of changes for each drum pack in toon tracks, is it worth making a template for 16 channels? Meaning some of the packs like Latin Drums or Rock drums they amount of channels for each drum session will change. Or should I just do this everytime I create a new session?

Weird, I did everything right but when I try to seperate by note pitch, it separates then, but when i try to solo just one track, they all get solo'd like they're still connected, anyone have any ideas?

Only thing is... In my experience, multi-output instruments use a ton more processing power (at least in battery/kontakt) vs using multiple instances of a plug-in. Multi-output should be the correct and easiest routing method in Logic, but something about it and NI instruments is causing issues with processing power.

Hi! I have a question. I did all of what you said to make each piece of the drums have it’s own channel but when i did that it made my drums exponentially louder! I tried adjusting the velocities but it was still making the whole mix be thrown into the red causing distortion. Also, when i created the individual channels for the drums the output was saying 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 etc.. any idea on why that was?

By selecting "Toontrack->ExDrummer 3->Multi-Output (16xStereo)" for EZDrummer 3's plugin input... it's no longer mono, that threw me for a f'n loop for a few hours until I worked my way thru it... works great, sort of an unpleasant pain in the ass getting to that point tho...

@8:27 That's not how it's done 😊 From mixer you select the tracks, right click and select "create tracks".

logic has really dropped the ball on their drum interface. How did FL studio get it correct 15 years ago? you want to drag in a sample and have a track channel (with a functional piano roll) and a mixer channel. Is it really that difficult?

The whole “Separate By Note Pitch” thing is, IMO, a total waste of time. A drum kit is effectively a single instrument, so trying to edit the drum part when it’s split across God-knows-how-many tracks is a major pain in the backside. Also, when using that as the method for exporting to audio: who wants their open and closed hihats on separate tracks? I know I don’t. Better to use a multi-output instrument and then export one file per channel strip. Fast-forward to just after half-way in this video, where the useful hints start...
