This help a lot with palm mutes and bass guitar in my punk rock mixes, i was getting crazy because when i play my mixes in my car the palm mutes parts do a very boomy sound and ruining the track listening. I just want to thank you!.

Multiband compressor is a gem! That reminded me how Warren Huart and Glenn Fricker used compressor as a gate. And it made me think: could ReaXcomp (or any other multiband comp) be used as a multiband gate? That might be interesting to test when mixing drums...

Man thank you so much, I am very new to Reaper and Audio recording, but was able to follow you overall concept about EQ/Compression. I am recording a stratocaster through a Marshall, using a SM-57 and a Royer 101. I am using a Clarett 4 pre and with Royer D-Boost for both Mics. Marshall's have a ton of mid range. And my Strat single coils are a pain in the but to eq. But anyway I was able to make it sound a lot better due to this Video. Just wondering to teach on the side hourly session? let me know. By the way, you probably already know this, but Reaper's stock compressor (ReaComp) also allows you to adjust a high and low pass for the compressor to take action, meaning that it will only compress the areas where the high and low pass are settled to act, and in casses like these where it's only one area of frequencies that are needing the compression, it can work as well as the ReaXComp.

I'm splitting hairs here, but actually, if you're only gonna use one band in the multiband compressor to control those palm mutes (100Hz to 250 Hz, as you specified), in Reaper, perhaps you need not even bother with the multiband compressor. The ordinary stock broadband compressor in Reaper has controls for input frequency detection (High and low pass, on sliders) that would probably allow you to do the same thing without affecting the other parts of the guitar tone. But like I said - splitting hairs.

there's a plugin called "ReEQ" (not to be confused with the stock plugin) that uses JSFX, it's quite the CPU hog but it's basically the poor man's FabFilter Pro Q.

Hi Bobby. I just recorgnized that when I want to record the guitar with 2 Tracks, 1 with the amp sound miced up, 1 with the DI Box. That I still hear the Di Box while recording. I just want to hear the Guitar amp while recording. Is there any solution that I can turn off the DI Box channel in direct monitoring while record the guitar. I still want 2 Tracks but only want to hear 1 track while recording. I have the Focusrite Scarlett 2|2 Gen1 best regards Andy

I can't even get my tones to sound like yours before you even mix them. I'm using a helix and recording with an ibanez iron label rgaix6fm. I've even went as far as replicating other people's tones that sounded good and mine still doesn't sound even close.

The bass/drum stem was mixed in Pro Tools and it's just the stock Sansamp plugin in Pro Tools.

I play it once, copy it and pan it left and right and it works well enough for me. I'd say cut the parts you want to make clean, copy them on additional tracks, and create a clean tone on the new tracks. No idea how to create a clean tone though.

Pro Tools is my main DAW. I use Reaper when I'm recording bands live at venues because it's much more stable than Pro Tools. Also, it's convenient to not be lugging an iLok key around at shows. I do use it for some projects because a large majority of my students are Reaper users.

I'm struggling to get decent recordings with amp sims, they're sounding so bad that I'm questioning the functionality of my interface or inner parts in my guitar. Hey man! I used the most budget of gear to produce this recording. A super cheap 2-channel interface, EZ drummer and a cheap amp sim. The trick is I used my own custom made impulse responses. I highly doubt there's anything wrong with your gear. It usually comes down to a simple workflow issue. Hope that helps!

Are you bypassing all of the bands in the plugin and only engaging a single band to focus on the 100-250Hz range? I only use a single band to control the palm mutes when using a multiband compressor.

Newbie here. I am using bias amp with different amps each side. When it comes to filtering out the nasty frequencies do I add an EQ on each track and filter there?

In all honesty, I try to use an IR that doesn't have any nasty frequencies in the first place. This makes mixing a lot easier and I can also EQ both guitars at the same time on a buss. That being said, if you do have some problem frequencies, EQ each guitar independently.

I love using it from time to time, but my entire studio is build around Pro Tools and my engineers all use Pro Tools as well. If I were starting over, I'd definitely use Reaper.
