Kicks are tough! This video really helps. I like RBass to bring out the lows and even Slate's Fresh Air to hear the kick's click sound.

This is a VERY dynamic and genre-specific approach. Notice how he is using a real kick drum. It has tonalities and aspects that synthesized or layered drums don't have, and vice versa. So while these tips are excellent, they are not all needed for your type of kick. But education is education, so soak it all up and enjoy.

This wouldn’t work for a full drum recording. Mixing anything in isolation is not a good practice.
