I ordered a semi-gloss black paint with hardener ral 9005 (deep black), as I don't paint as much as I use to I don't have much paint in my shop. I order what I need to get the job done. Now you guys out there know how it's done by the pro's in the business, and as a semi-retired refinish guy it's nice to see. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting vid some great info. I have never been a big fan of matt finishes i like the glossy look but seeing how the torana turned out when done properly by a professional I can really appreciate it a lot more, looks great. Top work Gunman.

Hi there Gunman thanks for putting so much into your vids, they're great. We will be doing a mates FJ soon in Matte Black so this vid came in really handy Thanks!!! A thought for future vids which I think no one else really covers is the remove and refit process, eg. door, door handles, windows, door locks etc... Sounds simple but some cars are tricky, might be a good add on vid cheers Dennis

Hi, you mention the hardener goes in after mixing the clear and matting agent at 2:1. But I'm unclear if you mean 2:1 of the clear or 2:1 of the clear/matting agent mix. Can you clarify please?

Hi gunman! I have a quick question, and saw somewhere that you see comments better than direct messages. I recently resprayed my trunk from the bare metal after getting some weird clearcoat lifting on the previous job, but was wondering what could have gone wrong the first time. Now, I know it was prep related, I did not take as much time as I should have. I also tried to do some weird trickery. I sanded the factory clear coat, and sprayed an acrylic rattle can anti-rust primer, then a rattle can engine enamel, then my base, then my FC740 clear. I know this is super weird, and I have no idea why I did that, but after about a month, I started to get these weird valleys in the paint, that almost looked like a slug crawled over it and took the top layer off with it. I couldn't pick away at the sides though, and it looked like there was still clear in the valley. My theory is I just put too much paint on at once. Any thoughts?

The Gunman - your video's are the best out there, easy to follow - question : when mixing base coats, clear coats, with hardener, for example if you mix 2 to 1, do you mix first, then add the required thinner last ? - tnx*
@TheGunmanChannel7 жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct, add thinners after, you can get calibrated mixing cups from all auto paint suppliers, they have the ratios on the side of the container.

Can you polish if any dirt gets on The paint?
@TheSettttth7 жыл бұрын
Would you say doing the matte in the clear is more difficult to spray or less than just a single stage matte? I've never done the clear but I just finished a matte black Prius and I probably sprayed the second coat a bit heavier than I was supposed to but I just wanted a uniform finish. My first attempt was at a beetle a complete with all the panels on which as very difficult for my first time and I had a lot of wet spots

As this is a solid colour What is the advantage to using a matte clear as opposed to a matting agent in direct gloss 2K?
@TheGunmanChannel9 жыл бұрын
If you put 75% matting binder in 2k it will take 10 coats to cover because the binder is clear

I was looking forward to this one, that really helps me out a lot, I want to reproduce a vinyl wrap matt finish that I have on my car at the moment, but did not no how to go about it. What about cutting,polishing and waxing etc with these types of finishes? Do you still get orange peel with this type of finish? Great video ,thanks
@TheGunmanChannel9 жыл бұрын
You can not polish matte finishes or it will go gloss again, yes you can still get orange peel but won't see it as much.

Hey Gunman, say I used a 2:1 clear also and wanted a 75% matte - so thats like 100ml clear, 300ml flattener, and 50ml hardener yeah? So all that flattener doesn't interrupt the hardening process?
@TheGunmanChannel6 жыл бұрын
Nick Gill that's not correct, I'd put 75 grams of flattening base with every 25 grams of clear making the 75:25 ratio I talked of, hardener then needs to be added 2:1
@nickgill87596 жыл бұрын
The Gunman thanks for the reply. And do you mean 50grams hardener or 12.5grams hardener? I.e. are you including the flattener into the 2:1 calc?
@NamTran_876 жыл бұрын
Nick Gill i think The Gunman means 50 grams of hardener. 75g flattening base + 25g clear= 100g mixing and just add hardener with the ratio is 2(mixing) : 1(hardener)

Can you use the flatner on single stage?
@lrmmorgan8 жыл бұрын
awesome vid! what size tip, and air pressure should I be using?
@mikegallaspie38046 жыл бұрын
You may want to let people know it depends on the name brand paint they're using as to the percent of flatter that can be added. Most manufacturers will not allow for anything over 60% as it will cause premature failure of the substrate. Also a lot of manufacturers will tell you to mix your clear and all of the components before adding the flatting agent as it will not provide sufficient chemical interaction therefore likely to have all sorts of issues with performance of the product. Js contacting the manufacturer is the best solution esp if your going to put the time and money into a flat base clear job without knowing how to even mix it. 😂

Or just read the technical data sheet 😂😂😂
