Spray Painting Matte Clear

In part 10 of the LH Torana I will be spraying the matte clear, I went through the entire process of how to mix and match the matte clear in the first episode so if you missed it go to my website through the link below and you will find the entire project there including all videos plus blogs, I am using a mixture of 75% Cromax AU175 flattening binder and 25% Duxone Plus MS clear.
I am using my DeVilbiss GTI Pro lite with the TE20 air cap and a 1.3mm fluid tip, this gun and same setup just took out my number 1 spot in my top 10 spray guns.

There is no way a good tech can run a shop. You cannot rely on your own abilities or u will burn out. Customer relations is a ton of work, dealing with insurance co with estimating is a ton of work, ordering parts and dealing with wrong or damage parts is a ton of work, Bodywork tear down and frame pulling is a ton of work, City codes taxes and all the personal and business insurance is a headache, We haven’t even gotten to paint prep, paint and paint product relations with the tech A good business isn’t ran by 1 good person

Good job gun Man U did an awesome job I was just curious if u ever used an airbrush before I thought I saw u did some airbrushing before in ur early episodes but I may be mistaking u for some one else I just built my self a big air brush spay booth from scratch if u wanna take a look at its on my dads KZbin channel h.o.motorsports it will be up in 1 hour we just shot it I also just bought my self a Iwata th or kustom for people who live in USA it's a airbrush that not only comes with a trigger , mac valve and a trigger lock but like a real gun it comes with a gun cap so u can spay that beautiful v patten let me tell u I had a Iwata eclipse which was no bad airbrush but shit il never go back just FYI I spray model cars I'm not into skulls or paintings I would love to learn but il get there thanks again keep up the good work👍🏻

You should be painting high end cars like the ones that Symbolic motors sell here in Cali. Oh and I did purchase the GTI from the UK so I can finish painting my Chevelle with a decent gun.

My question is I add the flattening agent, and seems to really thicken up the clear and if i don't over reduce it to makeup for the thickness in paint, what are my options? Is it okay to add more reducer? If i don't it comes out rough and really orange peely! Good video!!!

Yeah, I guess I was just flattered at the thought of living in Thailand that I didn't take the precautions that I would usually, it hasn't totally failed yet but just totally changed, originally we were going to have a spray center here in BKK and my main job would be painting but now looking like it will be marketing which is something that if I knew at the stare I prob would have thought about it a little more, yes I always have options and am just taking it as it comes for now, I am missing painting though.

Hi, I just bought an Honda Shadow 600 from 1999 with 8000 kms, and once I'll have enough money saved up, I'd like to paint most of it in matte black, including engine, wheels, and so on. I think my father has a spray gun and I'll probably make a 3x3x3 meters paint booth with ventilation with wood frames around it to support the metal bars in the middle, to suspend the frame and other parts. Walls made out of big, strong and thick plastic sheets. Anyway, I've been watching your videos all day and still can't get my idea and how I should start it off. Disassembly isn't a problem, I just don't know what products I should get to prepare and then paint it all in matte black. I know how to mask tho.. If you take the time to give me a little answer or even just a link back to one of your videos or else, I'll be very thankfull :) Have a great day/evening !

How do you mask for Matt clear? Because as far as I can see you can't get any edges as you cant flat and polish them out. As in the gaps between your doors, how do you seal them off?

hey gunman two months ago i painted a car white it was a three stage job with pearl on top. i used buff 2k primer underneth it .it.was fine when the job was done a month later it started to change color {yellowish] like the buff .so i redid it and now a month later its doin it again im stumped.i used that same primer on the plastic parts of the car e.g bumper and it was fine .it only changed color on the metal door

I have a question, I have ran into a problem once before in my years of painting where I have left streaks on the base coat after tack ragging the panel and notice them once the clear goes on. At this point, is it safe to apply base coat over the fresh clear to try to cover the streaks? If so, what amount of flash time do you recommend? I really enjoy all of your videos and have been a fan for a long while. Every time an apprentice comes my way, I direct them to your channel because of how informative your videos are.

you can not sand/polish matte clear coat, if you do you will get shine out of matte clear coat. You will be surprised but if you have a matte clear coat finish and if you wet sand and buff you get a shinny finish. If you have any dirt etc you can sand yo remove the imperfection and apply another matte clear coat on top of if. Gunman uses matte agents, you can play with the mix to get the desire finish (matte, satin, semi gloss) or you can buy a ready to spray matte clear coat where you just add the hardener. You can get PPG, Kirker, Urekem, Sherwin Williams premium, and more brands on the premixed/ready to spray clear coats

The matte clear always makes it look pale and gives a white washed out look. So yes, this is matte clear over a jet black basecoat.

you can buy 2 pac matte solid colour in poloyuthane and just add some uv inhibitor 😊

My only issue with that was if you had it mixed to full matte 75% matting paste you'd lose a lot of coverage, I do know it's possible but on this job probably best I did use clear.
