skintone tutorial that I found "the most accurate" no adding black, not too much colors needed. and this video also teaches beginners that if you make accidental blooms in your painting, you can always always make up to it in another layer rather than thinking that the whole painting is ruined early in the process . Much love! ❤❤

Love this video. I think it's a great example of how learning shadow placement can become easier when you approach one zoomed in subject and start with values instead of details. I would love to see you break down other features like the nose and mouth and your favorite color choices lips! Beautiful work :)

Jani, this is probably my life-changing video! I used to add shadows to my skin tones by using (recklessly) pure brown or pure blue or mixing alizarin crimson with blue, which of course ended up in a bruised effect. But hopefully now there will be no more bruised portraits! :)

Thank you very much Jane. I use very similar, if not all the same products. I agree Arches is the best paper. I buy in bulk. I love having the ability to make any size painting I want. My friends all are wanting panel paintings, so the big (20" x 33") sheets make this work well. Dan Smith is my "go to" paint. I am slowly moving into pans as I am finding I use too much paint with tube. Halfway through I thought you were in trouble making the iris too dark. Then you lifted and saved the day. In the end, WOW. Just, WWOOWW!! The illusion of "real" is what I am after and, I, apparently will be following you around for a bit. Thank you very much.
@JaneBeata2 жыл бұрын
Great that you can buy Arches in bulk, its a little more complicated for me here in Slovakia but it's easy to get Fabriano Artistico here (archs). I am currently preferring Canson Moulin du Roy but it's just that my technique needs the additional help with lifting and Arches doesnt really allow that. Thanks so much for appreciating the painting and the video!
@robinhuizing44062 жыл бұрын
Jane, have you tried bee paper? It's my first 100 percent cotton paper besides arches. I'm still feeling it out but think I like it more then arches even.
